You go and get spring compressors from Advance or something?

With the sale discount of $70.00 off and the refund for the tire installation and disposal fee, etc. It wound up being approx $1304.00

Nice. I'm probably going with those, since I heard rumblings the PSS's dont survive as well for track conditions...

PSS is more of a street tire that reaches up to track status. RE-11 is more of a track tire suitable for the street. While the PSS will grip just as well, from what I understand they don't withstand extended track time without chunking.

Though I have read it does take a pretty long and hard session (that's what she said) to get them to chunk. Nonetheless they won't be as durable as the RE11.

These are performance cars... they deserve performance tires.

With mount & balance I'm out about $1500 or so for my PSS.

:ugh2: theres a difference though, performance = track, everyday driving = suitable tires, without all the performance hype.

With tires you get what you pay for. I will never cheap out on tires again. I did once when I gave the Hankook V12s a try. Never again.

Tires are probably one of the most important components of a car if you drive hard.

If all you do is tool around, however, then go ahead and get some Hankook tires lol

Agreed. They are arguably the most importent component of your suspension system. It always pains me to see guys spend big money on suspension parts only to put on a cheap set of rubber.

Well if Steve gets the Mustang beast ready this summer perhaps we'll find out.

m4a1mustang 03-18-2012 12:55 PM

Modding two cars is expensive so I'm not sure if I want to take it out on track this year... maybe next when it's paid off. But for the track I won't be using the PSS, I'll be on 18x10 Enkeis with some real track only tires.

Or worse yet, giant wheels, and then stretching tiny-*** tires over them. Stretched tires make me want to choke a bitch.

Thats too bad. I was looking forward to seeing you out there this year. Shado will likely be out there along with Bobo and even maybe Blades so at least we'll have some new folks in the Z crowd at the track.

Well let me know when/where. I would at least be able to do a Hyperdrive or two with you guys, but I just don't think I'll be where I want to be to spend the coin on a full weekend.

That is why when I ran my RE50s literally until they caught on fire, I purchased four from a forum member on here who was upgrading to RE11s and did not want to keep his, They had about 3K miles on them so he sold them to me for $750.00 with shipping. If you look on here you'll find them available from time to time. When they are you must be ready to purchase immediately as they won't be available for long.

I think you'll be fine with the PSS starting out. You shouldn't need to worry about them until you really start to build speed.

We'll find out. I'm certainly a novice at the track, so we'll see how long they last me.

m4a1mustang 03-18-2012 07:27 PM

They should be fine. From what I have seen you have to be really fast and it's got to be warm to really get them to chunk.

Well, I plan on going to race tracks during summer time. lol, I think heat will be a factor.

But again, we'll see.

Yes but you have to be on basically a competitive time attack type pace. I bet you'll be fine for your first few events.
