absolutely, I feel like I drive like a grandma with the winter tires on. They just don't have any real grip on the dry asphalt they're made for digging into snow. but yeah there's definitely a big difference between all seasons (no seasons) and summer tires as well. They don't call them performance tires for the hell of it.

What are you running?

Thankfully I went with WinterSport M3s which have decent grip in the 60-70 degree weather we've been having. I don't push the car in those temps, but when it's in the 50s or lower I can push like hell through any corner and they grip pretty well and have a very predictable breaking point. I would imagine Blizzaks or similar would absolutely suck in this weather.

The car will be on Pilot Super Sports tomorrow, though. Time to get back to some real fun. :yum:

I'm debating on getting a set of ther Bridgestone RE760's or the Michelin Pilot Sport AS'. Does anyone have any experience with these two 'high performance' all season tires? Since moving to PA can't really justify getting a set of PSS' even though I loooooooove them. :yum:

If you plan on tires that will work in snow those are both poor choices. You need a true snow tire, especially in PA, to make it through winter.

Not looking at a snow tire.

Well what is the point of the all season then? It's going to get you just as dead as a summer tire in the snow. :bowrofl:

The only AS tire worth a damn in snow is the Continental DWS.

All season is equally as comparable in all seasons more-so than an UHP Summer only tire. Atleast, thats what they want you to believe. Honestly I want to run PSS' all the time and say eff you rain/snow. Buuuut, well can't do that apparently. :shakes head:

Snow tire, not interested. I would discuss the Conti DW's but with the way they are, if I were going to get them, I'd just get the PSS' cause they're practically the same thing.

DWS not DW. DWS is the all-season. DW is the summer version.

Why aren't you interested in snows? Get a cheap set of wheels from Tire Rack and put winter tires on them. Run those wheels from December to March and run your pretty wheels with your PSS for the better part of the year. That's what most of us that DD our cars do.

It's really the best option. All-season you are just giving up dry weather grip so you can have crappy performance in snow/cold weather. Why not have GREAT dry grip and GREAT snow/cold performance?

Then why do I see Conti DW's and DWS' listed on tirerack? Conti confuses me... which is why I stay Michelin. :icon17:

Because I don't have the $$ to buy wheels, I have to buy what I need and tires come before wheels, even if they are a set of cheap winter wheels... :(

If it were up to me I'd run PSS' year round because they are amazing. But I have to be realistic...

And if it's snowing, I'm not taking a rear wheel drive car with anything other than cleats. :rofl2:

m4a1mustang 03-09-2012 09:57 PM

If you are not going to drive in/on snow then just keep the PSS.

OR you could not drive the Z when it snows, and drive something more suitable for the snow.. thats what I would do, and save on buying winter tires and a new set of rims, or the rigamarole of swapping tires on one set of rims.

Great seeing everyone today! I was surprised at how many Z's we had out there today. Just wish there could have been one more......

shadoquad 03-10-2012 01:58 PM

What a great turnout! We had to have 14 or so cars there. We also had a visit from a nice lady in a Lotus Exige, and this really cool fellow in a drop-top Audi S5.

Was great to meet some new faces, and the usual MD suspects turned out in force. Sooo much fun!

Beyond the fact that I didn't wanna ruin your meet (like I did with the NYC meets) and convert everyone into BMW nut huggers with my candy, there are several caveats to the claim that I had candy that I should've disclosed beforehand:

1. The candy is only for young girls.
2. The candy is in my pants.
3. You have to dig the candy out yourself.
4. But you can't use your hands; you can only use your mouth.
4.a. Under no circumstance are teeth allowed.
