Service Departments in Northern VA.

Question,

For those who get their cars serviced at dealerships, I am interested in finding out if you have had good, bad, mediocre or indifferent experiences.

Coming upon my first oil change, don't mind taking to dealerships for oil changes, as long as they are honest and straightforward. Nothing worse than jackasses who have no clue about your car.. i am sure u guys have been through that..

Feedback appreciated.

Also u get the Z serviced at a good Japanese Indy shop, do tell.

I had my first service on my Z done at Brown's Fairfax and had no complaints.

A lot of guys are also pretty pleased with Chantilly Nissan's service.

Thanks Steve, appreciate the heads up.

Nissan of Chantilly has been great to me. Had my car for a year and take it there for each service and oil change. You can bring your own oil and filter if you like (they charge around $20 labor).

Their service is great and they won't try to rip you off.

Red__Zed 05-09-2011 06:57 PM

Nissan Chantilly is great for dealer service.

GM_Traitor3.5 05-09-2011 07:04 PM

Plus, last time I was in there a few weeks ago they had a red, silver and blue 2012 GT-R in the showroom. Not bad eyecandy to look at while your car is being serviced

sucasa 05-09-2011 07:21 PM

Guys, thanks.. appreciate. I checked out chantilly's dealership. super clean facility, and folks there were very nice.

Herb Gordon off of Rt.29 in Silver Spring where I got mine from has a white GT-R in the showroom. Whole facility is nice and clean.

My car just is due for it's first oil change soon and I was debating to take it in to them or just do it myself in the driveway.

I use Brown's in Fairfax. They have been great. Was there today.

If you go, ask for Bryan Waters and say Brian with the white 08 Nismo said he is the man to talk to.

eastwest2300 05-10-2011 08:42 PM

Save yourself the money, and do it yourself, enjoy the experience. I did, the Z's engine is a work of art, its truly built like a Champ.

Red__Zed 05-14-2011 11:47 PM

for non-warranty work (mods and such), I have a friend that does good work as well, very inexpensively. He's always willing to hook other enthusiasts with good deals. Feel free to PM if you want contact information.

Hey Red, can you PM me your friends contact information, I need some work done on my Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Used to use Brown's Fairfax, and they're ok for routine oil changes, etc. Had a problem with them even believing me about a clutch problem I had, and a shifter rattle (which I fixed myself...)

Chantilly's your best bet IMO...very accommodating. Also, state inspections are free for all Nissans there (just found out today, who knew?)

When I was car shopping last year, Brown's lost my business to Chantilly Nissan for two reasons.

1) They wouldn't play ball on price negotiations
2) Chantilly's entire service department was pristine and the folks there are very helpful.

The free state inspections for life is certainly a good bonus too

I had the opposite experience with Brown's vs Chantilly when buying. Chantilly sales thought I was stupid... "We'll give you 15K for your trade in, and charge you 39K." ...no "Well how bout 12K for your trade in, and charge you 36K." ...sigh

Service is a different story though.

Ask for Dan too...he seems to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to Zs and GT-Rs there.

Hi Guys, i am new to the Z community. it sounds like i will be taking my car to Chantilly for service. question though. do they offer free state inspection even if you didn't buy from them?

btw Chantilly's sales folks are really really bad. they assume all their buyers were under a rock.

Yeah, Dan actually does some racing on the side. Really nice guy and knows his stuff about everything they service.

Welcome dude!

The free state inspections are only for those who purchased their car from Chantilly Nissan. One of the perks I guess you could say.

I agree that their sales people assume you don't know squat about the car. Luckily I was dealing directly with the sales manager there when I bought mine, so I didn't have to hear:

Sales: You know this car has stability and traction control right?
Me: Yes. That's what this little VDC button is for.

Sales: So, what do you think of the all new chassis?
Me: Well, its the same chassis as the 08+ Altima, so it's okay for being 3+ years old

Thanks Jay! hopefully, i will get to meet you at the coffee meet.

No problem! I don't know how many folks are meeting up at the Fair Lakes Starbucks tomorrow morning, but I'll probably be there tomorrow

I got mine at Brown's and they gave me a free inspection at Chantilly...*shrug*, I get all my service there, so maybe they think I bought it there? Either way, can't hurt trying; I think VA rates are pretty standard at the dealerships so no use shopping around (unless you want to try out some clipper coupon at a gas station...I wouldn't recommend it)

Or the very last option, you could do all the work yourself, and save lots of money.

So took my z to chantilly mid afternoon Saturday for emission and safety inspections. Very helpful folks. Nice experience all around. Had to pay for both though.

How much did you for the inspection?

Somberlaine 05-30-2011 08:23 AM

Safety 16 emission 28. Pretty much what I would have paid at any gas station.

Inspection costs are fixed by the state. Same everywhere.

Not in MD they're not. When I was trying to get mine done, every place gave me a different price. The cheapest ones are probably all the same, but some places like to bump up the cost. I think I got mine done for like $60. That's for the MD state inspection. The emissions inspection, however, was only $14 and is fixed.

Yeah but you aren't going to chantilly nissan for a MD inspection...

True.. I wanna say I paid over $70 for state inspection on my Z, and for my other car, it was $14, but the State of MD is thinking of raising the costs for that, possibly around $40.

Yeah I know. I got mine at a Nissan dealership though and each one I called gave me a different price. I guess they just have a fixed price in VA.

The state of MD is shady in itself.. lol:bowrofl:

dont have a front license bracket...should i trust Chantilly with the install...i am worries about drilling holes too deep.

Roadster4Us 06-01-2011 09:34 PM

I had a great experience with Chantilly sales. Everything was done through email. No phone calls until the deal was done and I was heading up there to pick up the car. There were no surprise charges as I always work with an out the door price.

With regards to the license plate bracket the sales guy pointed out the drilling and asked me if I wanted it done. Glad he asked as many don't. Told him to put it in the trunk and I ordered the Stillen bracket.

Even though there is a Nissan dealer down here in Fredericksburg and one in Woodbridge, I will make the hour drive to use Chantilly.

Greg

They do a fine job on it.

I do have a stillen bracket available locally if you would rather not drill the holes.

I did the bracket install as well and it works! I also did not want anyone to drill holes in the bumper. Not that I am going to sell it but I don't think it would look to good in another state with two holes in the front bumper. Guess you could put a vanity plate there or something...

As for a dealer..well I had a great experience with the sales guy at Norris Nissan but not so much with the finance manager...Guy was nice and all. I just did not do my homework before hand so I guess it is part my fault but they ended up selling me a non Nissan warranty. All is good now I have canceled but I am not so sure if I want to bring my car there to be serviced. Has anyone used Norris Nissan West before?
