MD State Inspection
Hey guys, I need some help. I got a heavily modded out 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, my mods are, lambo doors, after market fenders, after market hood, wings west body kit, custom painted head & tail lights, and custom paint along with a massive fiberglassed stereo system.
The issue that I have is, I moved here from Florida, and in that state, we dont have state inspections, here in Maryland we do, and these guys are not messing around, my car stands zero chance of passing inspection, I've all ready tried. The mechanic laughed at me, pretty much. Does anyone know of a Mechanic that I could pay on the side to pass my car, so I can get Maryland tags, ASAP? Please, Please, Please PM me or reply on here. Thank you kindly.:driving: |

Have no clue. Sorry.

I can't imagine your mods blocking an inspection???
Reading carefully, seems like your head/tail lights may not pass. If you fail an inspection, they are supposed to provide a repair list. |
Keep the FL tags, I would and did for many year in VA. That way you don't need no inspection.

MD is basically impossible to pass inspection. The ordeal my friend went through to get a stock '98 M3 through MD inspection was laughable. I mean, they failed it for EVERYTHING. I lived in Rockville for a year when I first moved here and kept my cars registered in Illinois, IL drivers license, etc. I got pulled over for speeding twice during that time (once in MD) and when the cop questioned my license, I just said that I was a contractor here temporarily. Didn't even question that. |

Im not an expert on this by any means but I would think the only things on your list that would cause you to fail are the custom painted head and tail lights. put the oem ones back on for inspection and slap em back on afterward. I would assume a junk yard would work for the parts if you dont still have them.

In MD as long as there are no problems with the frt end or brakes/tires/lights/ps belt/cat convertor/tint/seat belts...you should be ok.You only have to do it once.

When I moved to MD I spent about $2k and 9 months replacing parts and doing maintenance on a 2 year old stock Scion xA trying to pass inspection (I took it three seperate times). The thing had 18k miles on it and still smelled new on the inside. I finally gave up on inspection, got two expired tags tickets over the course of a year when my TN tags were up, got frustrated and traded it in for the Z.
In the end I think I'm happier for it. |

I worked for PG county schools for 6 years in the 90s... I know where Kensington is. Just find a friend 2 miles away and register it in DC...

That's the distinction and why you were originally asked. |

It made sense to me eastwest. I went to college in South Carolina and grew up in Columbia MD. No one there ever heard Columbia MD so it was just easier to say Baltimore because people knew where that was.
