I made the airstrip and ZdayZ last year and it was a great time. I would reccomend staying at the Hampton near the airstrip (assuming its the same one), since its appx 2 hours from Fontana to the airstrip.

Last year I showed up pushing 605whp (DJ) and I was the slowest car there. Only myself and one other guy were not running race gas, just pump + meth. I hope to have my power tune fully sorted out this year before the event.

Nice. Yea basically I'm leaving school, going home to go to sleep, then leaving late at night to meet some of the guys in VA the next morning then its off to NC. Glad I taught my GF how to drive a stick on my Old G20 cause she might have to fill in for a little.

HKYStormFront 03-29-2011 07:58 PM

yea it's worth saying that at the airstrip event... most people are not allowed to participate. all i've ever seen running were certain cars from forged

Why is that? What are the requirements to participate?

HKYStormFront 03-29-2011 08:02 PM

honestly i don't know, i just drew conclusions from what i'd heard from my friends that were there and it was a preselected few

Maybe they only want fast cars out there that are prepped, not everybody in a stock or lightly modded car.

Of course the 5.0 is banned because it's top speed is 5.0 to the 5.0th power. :yum:

Well that probably excludes me and my stockishness.

I've always wanted to do like a top speed run on an abandoned air strip, like on Top Gear. Do we have any out here?

No, but you could probably sneak onto the air strip at Dulles International. Though I could see a few problems with that. :bowrofl:

Of course if I was 17 I would tell you your local highway serves as a good abandoned air strip. Oh how stupid I was at 17!!! :bowrofl:

Since we are on the topic of running our cars on runways

My Altima I use to have on the runway at the old Grumman Facility, This is where they use to build F-14 Tomcats, Intruders. It has been closed for a long time and most of the airport has been turned into businesses but the runways are still there.

Important questions for you. Where in NY is this and if I were to go there, would I be able to drive my car on the empty runway? I used to live in NY and go their to visit friends a couple times a year. I might have to stop by this runway on my next trip :)

This is in wading river near the Calverton military cemetary. I have heard stories of cops busting people on it, but I have been there several times and have never beem bothered. The fastest I have gone was maybe 110-115 in the Altima, it was at night, I would use caution because of all the deer. You use to be able to drive right onto the taxiway then onto the runway. But they have recently broken up the road from the main road to the taxiway, but you can still get to it by going on the dirt/grass for a little. There are two runways that run along side each other if I remember they are about 1 mile long. If you ever go make a few slow passes because there are a few old landing light fixtures at the end of the runway on the sides that would be bad if you hit them. We are currently trying to get a 1/4 drag strip built here since there are none on the Island.

I'll have to remember this the next time I go. Probably some time this summer.

NEGATIVE... the event is open to all who want to participate. Just last year only one NA 370Z showed up (Sharif's). Even a few locals ame by and signed up on the spot to run, a GTO, Vette and Viper. The Viper got spanked repeatedly by Paul in his GTR. Forged sponsored the event last year, so several of their customers showed up, but Hal from Injected Performance was top dog with his 9 second custom GT42 setup.

Regardless, its a great time and fun to make all out passes with whatever you bring

If this is true I will be doing as many runs as the allow. Do you need a helmet?

Your max is special though. It got a little extra Z blood in it. I've seen plenty of Z's following it around like they're ducklings.

Any trouble relative to what? You should run a 370 from a 100-roll. :bowrofl:

Though if you hold 100 for a few miles and then honk, the Z will probably have already started to overheat. Win for the Maxima. :icon17:

On mine, it would accelerate pretty quickly up till 100. As soon as it went past 100, it seemed to really slow down in terms of acceleration. I wasn't sure if It just came with the territory of going 100+ (the fastest I went up to was 115) or the car was just like that. It felt as if maybe something was holding it back.

I got mine up to a 125 pretty damn quick on the last cruise...err...scratch that... it was 45 the whole way.
