If the engine didnt have oil temp issues I wouldnt worry, but it has serious oil temp issues! I can overheat my oil in less than 1/4 mile of agressive driving with 5-30 mobile 1 at 60F ambient....

The factory cats are the most restrictive part of the OEM exhaust, so yes it would be gain. The car will get louder though. That would also be the threshold where a tune would be recommended.
