steering rods are usually silver in color (unless already rusted :ugh: ) and connect to the knuckle to steer da car. not sure why but dey dont usually come painted and one of da first things to rust....

yah washing ur engine bay is real important too. after all dry, i apply a light coat of motor oil on the metal bits including brackets and hose clamps (use q-tips, dont get oil on da hoses...
