Um, that's not how they work at all. An open diff puts all power to the wheel with the least amount of traction if traction breaks loose. If one wheel breaks traction, no power goes to the other...

Car stalling
move to the on position and wait a few seconds, then start. Let the fuel pump catch up. Fuel is probably draining back to the tank and it takes a second to pressurize the lines.

Don't throw money and parts at it. Get the codes read. Autozone does it for free, as has been mentioned.
