Making a modular gauge and EBC pod/mount thing. I needed something to be able to mount the AFR and EBC on to w/out butchering up my interior.

I'm watching and waiting for the final product. I'm confused and intrigued. Keep the pictures coming.

Getting ready to head to the local 1/8 mile. Project will continue slowly. Updates as time permits. Wish me luck on better 60'

Where is the 1/8th mile track?

YzGyz 09-18-2015 06:15 PM

Directions | Houston Motorsports Park

It's not that great but still fun because I usually get a dozen to more runs in. I just want to stomp the gas.

Good luck, sorry I couldn't make it this time. Maybe next time! :driving:

Last night's track day was fun. Won some and lost some. 1/8th mile leave little room for error on the launch. I don't get a chance to catch up at the back end since it's so short. I got about 8 or 9 runs in. Best time was like 8.59sec and 60" of something like 2.1 or something like that.

Anyhoo, I woke up a little early today and tinkered with the current project again. I tossed the old stuff that wrapped the EBC and AFR. I went out to HD and bought a pipe. It fits almost perfect. I had to scrape away the inside rib to allow the AFR to slide all the way through. You an sand it down but it takes forever. IF your using a electric sander of some kind, if you go too fast, it melts and you end up with a blob to sand down.

I then cut slits on the side so I can slide my mounting plate through.

A week ago, I had built a long rectangle out of card stock that was a little bigger than the EBC. I tried my best to support the inside of the rectangle so that it would retain it's shape during glassing. I did ok I guess. I was lady and glassed the whole thing at once. It almost became a fail!. I the gresin and glass is too heavy and not tacky enough to stay on the paper rectangle. I ended up shoring the outside up with more cardstock to keep the glassing form sloping off and deforming. You can see in the pic how it tuned out. I have a few spots missing of resin or holes but I will fix that with some body filler.

Here is a quick layout of how things will sit. Some of the OEM gauges will be a little blocked and harder to read but I could not get thigns to fit closer. The AFR and EBC require room in the back for wires and vacuum line (vacuum cant have kinks or anything).

Anyhoo, I'm having a break for not. It's too not outside to tinker. I might work on it more later. I might not.

Ops, I forgot to post about the AFR mount bar thing. So I used the scrap piece of fiberglass that I cut form the back of the rectangle box I made for the EBC. I made trimmed the plate to fit snugly into the slit that I cut into the side of the coupling. I eyeball cut space for the wires so the AFR gauge could but up against the coupling.

Once that wire part and out of the way, I used the grease/toothpaste trick to get an estimate of where to drill the holes for the mounting nuts. You just dab a little bit of grease or toothpaste on the end of the mounting screw while they are secured in place. You then carefully lay the unit into the surface you plan to drill or cut and then lift off. The grease/toothpaste will leave its mark on the surface. This is where you cut or drill. The toothpaste was hard to see so I put 2 small dots for you to see.

I did some more work on the pod thing but I'm at a stopping point. I don't know how I want the final look will be. I'm not sure how I can make it look more OEM Luke without crazy amount of additional work..

Anyhoo, last Friday was a good night at the track. I finally made it into the 12 seconds club

Nice job on the joining the 12 second club!

YzGyz 09-29-2015 08:17 PM

thank you.

I'll post up a pic of the pod thing tomorrow. I'm looking for comments on how/what people think will look nice and oem like.

Fun times, I can't wait to go out again! But need to find some wheels first..

I'm fairly consistently running 13.3x int he 1/4 mile now. I'm really thinking the tires are majorly holding me back from better times. Maybe I'll get stickier tires along with 305 next time. Not sure what tire to get as I dd my car year round.

As for the pod project, it's on hold. I need a chop saw to make clean cuts on the pipe before I integrate it into the new piece. The other project (with some help) is trying to get the OEM crash bar to fit back in place.

It was an awesome night at the track. When I got there, it only had like 10 cars running until 10pm!! Then it picked up to about 20 cars!! I was going back to back to back until my temp slowly crept up to 220 then I parked it some to cool it off. I did this twice and on the third time out, my check engine light pop back on!! Like WTF really!! A empty 1/4 mile and check engine light popped on!! One of the dudes at the track had a ODB +Torque and it read that my O2 was messed up again. I think it's dirty again.. I'm gonna clean it in the AM and see if that fixes it. If not, I'll have to order a new one.

I think it's about time to turn that boost controller on.

jwick 10-24-2015 10:01 AM

What tires are you running now?
