Joepro's Boosted Performance build thread!

After months of deliberation, and the orginal plan of going with a GTM supercharger, Sashas outstanding service and knowleged convinced me this kit was the way to go, some deciding factors for those on the fence:

1. FANTASTIC customer service, alsways quick to respond to messages, easy to work with, and handles his business with percision, he does what he says he will do, period.

2. Self install, I was considering the GTM supercharger, which is aslo self install, and the VSR kit, which is an in-house build, after reading the instruction manual for the BP kit, it is no sweat to install.

3.Twin scroll setup, looking at dyno graphs the power curve is similar to a supercharger curve, it just makes a lot more tq, but the twin scroll works well from what evidence I see.

4. ALL high quality parts, Treadstone IC, tial BOV and gates, turbowerks pump, etc. Also the crafstmanship is excellent on the handbuild, did I mention handbuilt parts?

5. Design, I was skeptical of having a turbo mounted under the car, but the kit is well thoughout and the turbo is tucked up above the front cradle away from danger, and keeps the turbo heat out of the already heat soaked engine bay.

The build offically starts Monday 3/3/14! All parts are in hand and ready to go!

I work at a dealer(yes I know everyone hates the service advisors, but cut me some slack!) so I have access to a lift and tools, I work a small amount after work this week and installed the ATI gauge pod and 2 AEM gauges Boost/afr failsafe and oil pressure into the car.

A few pics to get started!

Congrats, looking forward to see the build and final numbers.

1badZ 02-28-2014 09:08 AM

congrats!

try to keep taking pics along the way! good luck for a smooth install

Joepro 02-28-2014 09:11 AM

Only thing I have to do out of the norm is I have to have DE flanges welded on because I have Z1 headers, other than that it should be smooth sailing.

FPenvy 02-28-2014 09:17 AM

need help? lol

also i'm disappointed you went with a BP kit :shakes head:

a. i dont like the owner lol
b. i think the FI TT kit is just pure sex.

but i personally prefer twins over single.

R/T Tuning 02-28-2014 09:20 AM

Looking forward to seeing the car on the dyno Joe. :)

For the price, it is the most economical kit out there, I simply could not afford a FI TT kit or want to wait untill I did, but agreed it is a great kit no doubt, I love FI products, but the twin scroll is great on this car even with a single turbo, Vince and the R/T guys have seen a few of these now, and I think they would agree!

The most important thing to remember is that every single BP customer is very happy with the entire process. This is from a simple inquiry about the kit to the 1,3,5 years down the road after many shredded tires. The biggest complaint my customers have is the regret for not buying the kit sooner.

On the other hand, F.I has a very nice kit. I can say with a great deal of confidence that it is the best TT kit on the market, by a long shot. The nice thing is that each person will decide what is best suited for their goals/needs/budget...hence the diversity with forced induction options.

If it wasn't for the F.I kit and the BP kit, the "other" manufacturer would not be looking to improve their kit (something they have been desperately trying to do ever since I started posting here a couple of years ago). The way that situation has developed is a whole other story though.

jwick 02-28-2014 12:51 PM

Goodluck Joe and congrats! Can't wait to see the final product.

My big box shows up today but I'm still probably five or so weeks from starting tear down.

jlo370z 02-28-2014 12:58 PM

looking forward to the progress updates and final #'s

ts-c63 02-28-2014 03:15 PM

will do! It was slow this afternoon, got the oil cooler on, the pump mounted up and the oil lines all run.

FPenvy 02-28-2014 04:30 PM

I may have to swing by and see your progress soon considering I pass you twice every weekend when I go up to seven springs lol

Joepro 02-28-2014 04:52 PM

Anytime!

Joepro 02-28-2014 08:04 PM

Like I said got about 2 hours in today! Did the oil pan as well...moving along quite nice...super instructions btw... one of the guys in the shop worked for our performance shop when we had it he has done numerous turbo and engine swaps and he was floored with how complete this kit is...http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps4kc9ywk6.jpg

GaleForce 02-28-2014 08:12 PM

Yep. Best, most complete, kit for the money. I have said that from day one. I'm surprised more people from the "group buy" haven't gone this way.

The instructions are great, and the customer service and support from Sasha is second to none.

Looking good BTW.

Joepro 03-01-2014 11:56 PM

Got the injectors and plugs in today...full day Monday...will make some good, progress.

Joepro 03-03-2014 06:44 PM

Got the IC piping on an the flanges tacked on, the turbo is a beeotch to get into the IC pipe, but of course I have no manifold to bolt the turbo up to at present! Tomorrow I will do the fuel pump and charge pipes, then it is a waiting game on the manifold to come back from the welder and the PCM which I sent to RT to be flashed!

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...pstl9f1vk0.jpg

jlo370z 03-03-2014 06:46 PM

coming along nicely!

1badZ 03-03-2014 06:59 PM

Good job slowly but surely coming along. Take your time a

Looking good...I hope the tacks were very good, and all around the flanges.

This is important because things will shift when being welded, and can really throw things off. The manifold flanges are the absolute last thing I weld for that reason. Welding will change the size of the pipes to the point where things may not fit after welding (if everything was to be welded at once).

Joepro 03-06-2014 06:46 PM

Current update, Im almost done, got the flanges welded, did have a sight fitment issue, but it was quickly handled by both Sasha and Bryan at Berk Technology, after getting the manifold on, it was a 1/2 inch too short causing the turbo to contact the subframe. The solution was simple but hopefully effective, I added another flange between the header and the manifold, just on the passenger side giving the turbo the proper clearance. Today I got everything underneath done today, yesterday I did the charge pipes. Fuel pump is done as well, just a short list of what needed to be finished:

1. Solder new fuel pump harness in
2. Run wideband harness
3. put PCM back in (R/T shipped it yesterday!)
4. Put interior back together
5. Oil up and find all the leaks!

too close for comfort!

I plan on running the base map for a few weeks to make sure everything is installed and road worthy, then end of march install a boost controller and take the ride over to r/t to finish it off! Gale what wastegate spring are you running, and I assume Vince was ok with that much TQ, I see most people on the forum say to keep it around 400 ish on the stock internals.

I'm running the 7psi spring, I think it's a yellow spring?. My low boost setting is based off the waste gate springs. 476 ish rwhp.

When I took it to Vince, he asked me what I wanted out of the car/tune. I said it would be nice to see anything over 500 rwhp, as long as he thought it was safe to do. The final numbers is what he came up with after that conversation. He did tell me that he doesn't recommend tracking the car on high boost. I trust him and his tune.

*Unrelated to the tune* The only issue I have is the BOVs sometimes open during idle. This is an intermittent problem and I believe it throws a code when this happens. At first I thought it might be something that could be touched up with the tune, but that was before I found the BOVs sticking open. I've been meaning to call TiAL to see what they say.

GaleForce 03-06-2014 07:19 PM

I also took all my waste gate springs to R/T Tuning incase they thought they should be swapped out for something else. We left it as described in the Boosted Performance manual.

.

I like this line of thinking, Im gonna get a basic EBC maybe a GFB then I could have normal wastegate pressure when cruising around and kick it up to high boost with the controller when needed, there was some debate, but I am told I could do this all on the same map, but I will ask them about it when I get tuned.

There is no debate. It is one map. I have a 93 octane map, and a 91 octane map. Both are good for high and low boost and there is no issues running rich. Vince is one of the best tuners out there and takes pride in his work, he would not steer his customers wrong with this.

FWIW, Mr.Squeeze had Vince tune his 600+ rwhp beast and he also has one map.

Talk to Vince, he'll take the time to fully explain things for you.

Joepro 03-06-2014 09:07 PM

Ya this will be his second time tuning this car haha, he did my 350 too, just wish they were closer, I would give them a lot more business, nothing against our local shop, but they primarily are into civics and drift cars, but moved into a new facility are are doing some dang good fab work, plus one of their guys worked with my father some years ago, they were first to market with a turbo kit for the new gen civic and they build their kits like Sasha complete bolt on and high quality parts, they have a bright future, I will probably have them build my crash bar.

Joepro 03-07-2014 10:25 PM

Well it runs and drives just combating one minor but strange oil seep from one line, just have to fix that, bumper back on then put the interior back and it will be a,wrap!

As per email...just let me know if you need a replacement hose, or any other part that may be needed to fix the small leak.

Joepro 03-07-2014 10:32 PM

No problem Sasha,as soon as I figure out why it's doing it with 2 different lines ill let you know, im missing something...prob some sort of installer error!

This is the way my car is setup as well, except 91 and 100 octane. Really makes things simple!
