speedfreek's Journal

Welcome to my small corner of the370z forum.

I have finally started getting stuff done this year and decided it would be a good time to start a build thread. To help me keep track of what I have done so far and see where things go from here.

I bought the car late February 2012. It's a 2012 Pearl White Touring with Sport and Nav.

Current look:

Next came the Fast Intentions TDX 18" SS with Berk HFC. This really woke the car up. Love that sound.

Next was the Swift springs, SPC rear camber kit with toe bolts and Powertrix spacers 20mm all 4 corners
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...pse8ba5d03.jpg

Then I got bored and decided to mess around with the plastidip stuff everyone has been using. Ghosted the Nissan emblems.

Then came ZdayZ X

After chasing that 350Z around all weekend I wanted to start working more on my suspension so ordered Eibach sway bars when I got back.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps03adebcc.jpg

Then I ordered and prepped the Stillen Splitter with a piece of aluminum L bar to prevent the sagging issue. Hoping to get it installed on Sept. 7.

Other than that I have a few more things waiting to be installed before Z Nats. Upgrading the brakes at least a little bit for the track day and lugs waiting on the new wheels. And just got the Zspeed undershroud in this week ready to be installed.

speedfreek 08-27-2013 09:11 PM

I took the Z out after installing all the new parts and did a quick photoshoot. I hope to get a better photoshoot in the upcoming few weeks with it all cleaned up. Hope you enjoy the quick shots I took today.

Thanks man. Your build is insane! I only wish I could do something like that. Yours was also one of the ones that help me choose on which wheels to get. My F14's should be here next week or so. Can't wait. Just in time hopefully to get them mounted and the splitter installed.

Mr&Mrs 08-27-2013 09:39 PM

You will love them brother! I was going to get a big name JDM wheel just to stick with the theme of the car, but nothing looks as good as these IMO. Plus these were hella cheap in comparison.

speedfreek 08-27-2013 09:45 PM

They look great on your car. The super deep concave is insane. Cant beat the price either in comparison to the big name JDM wheels.

Reaper42 08-27-2013 09:57 PM

Nice man, love the r40 lugs. Car's looking good so far, dont forget about an oil cooler for the track! :)

speedfreek 08-27-2013 10:03 PM

Yea the 12 came with one factory. Going to see how it holds up at Barber. I didnt have any issues at the Dragon or Skyway so we'll see.

TxBlueZ34 08-27-2013 11:57 PM

nice mods so far bro!

speedfreek 08-28-2013 09:13 PM

Just got the shipping notification for my wheels! :excited:

Z-Girl 12 08-28-2013 09:16 PM

while chasing the 350z, why all the blue tape on the front of your z?

What dont like the blue tape? Lol. Its to prevent rock chips on the front end from the trip there and back plus while following anyone during spirited runs on the Dragon etc. I still got one on my passenger mirror and roof.

It's not about being cute. It is about protecting the super thin Nissan paint we are blessed with on our Z's or any car you care about for that matter.

Z-Girl 12 08-29-2013 08:15 AM

agreed

speedfreek 08-31-2013 06:30 PM

Well the Z has upgraded its status as it will no longer be subjected to daily driving duties. Just picked this up yesterday. Gave it a good wash today. Still needs some work but pretty clean for a used car. Pretty fun little car with lots of cargo room which I needed something with more utility with good mpg.

speedfreek 09-03-2013 10:10 AM

My wheels should arrive today! :excited: Hopefully get some initial shots up this afternoon for your viewing pleasure as well.

When I say should, I mean the FedEx website has 9/3 as the delivered date but the location hasn't been updated since 8/30 when they were still in Cali. So I have no idea if they are on a truck to be delivered or not.

speedfreek 09-04-2013 06:45 PM

Well after a long wait my wheels finally arrived. I was sad to get home and see the sticker on my front door. Requires signature, yet I am at work all day. No problem called FedEx told them to hold it at the warehouse and I would pick it up by tomorrow in the Fit (see that thing is already coming in handy). But to my surprise the door bell rings shortly after. The FedEx guys figured it was a car enthusiast waiting on wheels so they swung back through after finishing the rest of their stops. Stand up guys

And let the unpackaging begin....

That concave though....:yum:
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps44d89139.jpg

The guys at Getyourwheels were awesome to work with and they handled everything great. Can't wait to see them on the car, hopefully this Saturday. Love how they turned out.

Z-Girl 12 09-04-2013 09:14 PM

That is a hot set of wheels...great choice.

Thanks. Hopefully get a photoshoot with them on this weekend. See how things go with mounting the lip....etc.

speedfreek 09-08-2013 09:57 PM

Plastidipped the fangs and installed the Stillen splitter this Saturday. Also mounted up the Forgestars. Changed the whole look of the Z and I think it came out great!

Tape job took forever to get the lines straight.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps09aff9a9.jpg

Right after applying the last coat I tried to get the tape off as quickly as possible to try to get the lines straight. This was a FAIL! I was so frustrated by this point, but with this many hours invested I wasn't taking no for an answer so I forged ahead. It didn't come out flawless since I had to touch up both corners to get the outter most lines straight. But I am satisfied with it right now. I don't think I will get it painted permanently to where I cant go back to the PW fangs.
http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps72f8cfa4.jpg

After what was the Plastidip experiment it was time to bolt up the splitter. This went much more smoothly. Fitment was almost dead on.

It has been a while since I have done any updates. Finally had some time to install a couple of things I got over the winter. I have a couple more small things planned before Zdayz.

First up is Z1 hood struts.

speedfreek 04-21-2014 07:41 PM

Most recently I installed my Fortune Auto 500 coilovers. Went through some trial and error trying to get them adjusted. I think I got it close to where I want it now. Shout out to Marti @ Rev Works for the great deal and great customer service!

Started off sitting on the tires. Since I wanted to keep the splitter in one piece I thought it would be best to raise it some.

Sneak peek from Jason at GYW. Best customer service in the business! They are scheduled to be here tomorrow. Plan is to get them mounted up and everything ready to go for AMP.

6MT-Z34 10-02-2014 03:40 PM

Nice build!!

I wanted to ask, how do you like the fortune auto coilovers? I'm thinking about going the same route. If you can post a review or quick summary.

Thanks!

speedfreek 10-02-2014 08:20 PM

Thanks man.

So far I've been pleased with them. I'll be able to give a much better review after running them at AMP next week. For cruising around town and spirited runs on the Dragon this year I've had zero complaints. I am really anxious to see how they do on the track.

If you get them on the Black Friday sale it's a great deal. I had planned on saving up for some KWv3's but decided to give these a shot. So really comes down to your desired use and how much your willing to spend.

Thanks :tiphat: I'm going to do little to no tracking :shakes head: but I do dd my z but like the subtle lowered look to it but want to make sure its smooth and not to stiff

speedfreek 10-03-2014 05:13 PM

Too me the Swift springs are the perfect drop for a lowering spring. And a very compliant ride. The way it should of came factory. Add some Koni Yellow shocks and it's perfect.

Coilovers will provide more adjustability to dial it all in but running inch lower than the Swift springs made it a PITA when driving it around town. Every speed bump and entry point became a challenge.

Just an option if you aren't wanting to slam it on coilovers the Swifts and/or Koni's might be what you are looking for.

Oh I see so the highest this will go its lower than swifts? ....Yeah that might be an issue for me lol roads here in jersey suck...I was thinking for the price of konis plus swifts I could get a good inexpensive set of coilovers that are good like these lol...BTW will u be at z nationals?

speedfreek 10-03-2014 08:09 PM

These will go as high as stock ride height. Just depends on what your needs are and how much you want to spend.

Yea I'll be at Z Nationals.

6MT-Z34 10-03-2014 08:42 PM

Cool...I just want a subtle lower look not slammed, like swifts springs drop....with a little better handling... Great I would love to see ur car in person bro!

speedfreek 10-06-2014 12:47 PM

Track shoes showed up last Friday. Cant wait to try these out at AMP this Friday! :driving:

ZBro16 10-21-2014 08:53 AM

If all goes well sir, I plan to join you next year and rock this track day action. Looks like an absolute blast.

Also - I want to steal your intake.

Hit me up sometime. Maybe we can do lunch. I'm officially all the way back in town.

speedfreek 10-21-2014 09:18 PM

After you do one track day you will begin modding your Z for the track. It is an awesome experience. Pretty much all I care to do with it now.

Kind of using that intake at the moment. But I can get you in touch with some reputable sellers ;).

Welcome back. You should roll to IA this Saturday in Nashville. If I get my Z back to street trim I plan on making it up there. I will hit you up as soon as I have a phone that works. Mine died today apparently while TDY for work.

Side note. You should screen cap your last post. It was #370.
