I worked a lot of overtime this summer!!!!!
|
I can put in the pan myself I'm sure but the wiring on the fuel starve fix has me a bit nervous so if I get it installed that's a lot more overtime!!!
|
If I can wire it, so can you. ;)
|
once the snow starts falling I'm going to pull the seats, open the tank and dig in! Until then no less than half a tank

Failed Emisions with the test pipes on (only barely though).
So... Took of my pipes and tried to install my JWT high flow cats. Only (oops) the bolt pattern on the flange on my (Z1 400 hp kit) down pipes is different than JWT HFCs. So, what a hassle I ordered the z1 cats, bolted them them up, passed emissions and am now bolting my test pipes back on. The good news is that next year at Emisions/registration time I will at least have all my parts on hand. So I'm registered again for another year. Whew. |

Lost my clutch pedal at the track. (I suspect there was some moisture in the fluid which lowered the boil temp).
The pedal came back once everything cooled down on my drive home (reinforcing the wet fluid theory) Sooooo. I bled the clutch. (And my brakes for good measure) Now everything is working again. Lesson learned is bleed all my fluids prior to starting the track season or run the risk of exploring some usually unused portions of the track. (i.e. The overruns) Also I learned it's easy to round off that friggin bleed nipple unless you use a socket to initially loosen it up for the bleed process. (Fortunately, replacement nipples are cheep and readily available at the local auto parts store, good luck getting it in without draining all your fluid though) Edit. In case you are wondering I run the Zspeed upgraded CSC. In a panic at the track I ordered the Z1 clutch CSC removal mod/kit and now have it on hand. I'm torn about putting it in as I've not had any problems until now with the stockish CSC setup. On the other hand I know a fork style setup is probably better for keeping the system cool during hard track style use. Such a pickle. It the end it comes down to no wanting to crack open my clutch unless I really need to, and not wanting to mess up the pedal tune which took me so long to get right. I'll keep the parts for the next time I need to mess with my clutch. (The kit is really cool) |

I popped on my 255/285 PSS for summer! They are really nice. These ones will be saved from track use by my square 275x18 Toyo RA1s which are still hanging tough with a few dozen heat cycles. (HUUUUUGE improvement over street tires both in terms of wear and lap times.)
No more running streets, especially 1200 dollar sets of PSSs on the track for me ... Yes I'm up to 3 sets of rims now. Summer, winter and track. (OEM, powder coated OEM, and 18x9 squares.) |
Back to winter tires (OEM rims Pilot sport all season 245/275s )and and ceramic brakes (HP ceramics)
The Toyo RA1s are shot from about 10 track days so I'm remounting Toyo RRs (18x274 squares) on my track rims. http://http://www.speed-photosprints...2016/i-vqLgvSc |
In related news I've just started a build on. Factory five gen3 Daytona coupe!!!

The Z has 80k miles and is still doing track days all summer. This is kinda like getting a new puppy ready as your older dog gets a bit long in the tooth.
I learned TON from tracking my Z about how I wanted to set this thing up. |
Also. I Fiiiiinally put in Phunks fuel starve fix/pump and his older style (now) billet oil pan.
... the Z still has some track work ahead of her as I build up the Daytona! |

You went down the rabbit hole head first! :rofl2: |

|
Well. No?!? But I'll be happy to take you out for a spin at the track!!!!!
|
I would say if you break it you Bought it but after I spend 400 hours building it I don't know if you can afford me. Lol
|
Oh...hell man... you ain't no fun!!! :rofl2:
|
Way badass. That rabbit hole looks like fun!
Home come all the square tubing though? |
Great looking build and you are going to have some big time fun! This guy is a beast on the track! He is running a ls3.

I'll be running the new a52xs from ford. 450torque 580 hp. We should be quick if I can ever get it sorted. |
Z update I put on Toyo RRs on my track rims for this year. (I liked the RA1s that finally wore out but a buddy talked me into trying these.)

I've run the RA1s wet and dry and love them they get faster and faster as they wear down. I run square 18x275s so I can rotate them with wear.
I had REALLY good grip on the wet. My street rubber is PSS. There is no comparison at the track. The only concern is g Force with oil and fuel starve. I'm fuel starving at 2/3 tank!!!! I put in plunks pump to fix that issue and a deep billet pan to make sure I don't run out of oil. Be careful with that. (I'm considering a acusump) The RRs are a bit better dry. I'll let you know if their worth loosing the wet grip of RA1s My advice? If your a racer then RRs for ultimate limit performance. If your a weekend TrackAddict (like me) RA1s so you can run in the occasional wet day with negligible loss of grip in the dry. |
Right on...I really appreciate the information and your insight. I ended up going with the Z1 anti-fuel starvation kit because I was getting fuel starvation when I had burned about 5 gallon of fuel. I ran it down to about a quarter tank last time out with no issues.
I will keep an eye on the oil starvation as well. I got the Greddy over sized oil pan. I saw your post concerning the oil drain plug. Well I stripped mine out and didn't even know it until I tried to put the bolt back in and it would not seal up. I had to remove the pan install a helicoil spring. It was a pain but now I have no worries! I run re11s for street and I used them in the wet at the track weekend event in February. They work great in wet. The had over 12k on them but sI still had good tread on them. I used the for the fisrt session the following day as the track still pretty wet but drying. I should have changed them out as the rears heat cycled out. They are pretty much oversized hocky pucks now lol! I get the hook up on Toyos and Nittos so I will have to give the RA1s ago next season.
