Wheels installed!
There is a small wobble on the rears, but they should be fine for track and snowtires, and I'll eventually get them straightened! Also I track tested them! Here is a video! track day! - YouTube |
built TPMS bomb so I can run multiple sets of wheels. (DD and race)

After much procrastination...
My Z1 Stainless brake lines are in tonight. It was a bit of mess, and I probably should have let a pro do it for me, but it was kinda fun and pretty easy. As an added bonus, I was able to look while I was installing and see that my HP-pluss pads are hanging tough even after quite a bit of track abuse Sorry no picks I was waaay to covered in brake fluid to touch my phone for photos. DIY tips... 1. Have a pro do it lol 2. Make sure all your connections are TIGHT before you try to bleed... 3. don't over-tighten your fittings. |
No picture (it cant really be captured) but I had the slight wobble "straightened" out of my track day rims. Now they spin straight and true. Also, I pulled the TPMS system out of all my wheels and built a TPMS bomb. (it took some post production tweaking to make it hold pressure)
Here is my (kinda goofy) DIY: http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...ld-can-do.html |
I just installed and bedded the Z1 two piece rotors with Hawk ceramic pads. (Front and rear)
Going from hawk plus race pads to ceramics resulted in a huge reduction of stopping power, but also a huge reduction of dust and squeal and reportedly longer pad life. (The hawk plus pads wore down pretty quickly) I'm sure I'll miss the stopping power at the track, but I must say on the street these ceramics are very nice. As for the rotors... Meh. I'm not feeling a daily drive difference though they are Waaay lighter. The weight reduction is close to the center of rotation though so it's probably more of a light suspension feel thing than a torque/hp effect. My review... Performance wise, if you track your Z, Save 1000 bucks and run stock rotors and spend the extra cash on pads and car washes (for the dust) For the street, ceramics are really nice. I'm not noticing any performance gains from lighter rotors with my butt dyno. The rotors are pretty, but spend your performance gain money elsewhere. (Diff! Tune, flywheel, clutch and even exhaust note were way more noticeable.) Ps this is a fairly easy DYI project. |
Here they are installed.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/21/avyteqa5.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/21/8ese6evy.jpg They are very pretty and I suspect will cool much better due to a more open hub design and the neat cooling channels between the rotors |
After about 2 years of Hard driving and occasional track abuse I have developed an leak between my exhaust manifolds and both Berk HFCs that are generating O2 sensor "Check Engine' lights (specifically P2A00, P2A03)
I have a Gopoint OBD2 module permanently mounted and blue-toothed into my phone, so resetting the light is just a button tap away, but the leak is noisy and eventually I'll have to get my emissions done again, so I'm fixing with a new gasket from Z1. Z1 Metal HR/VHR Manifold 3 Bolt Gaskets With luck these will seal the leak and get me back to the track with no more leaks. |
I just ordered a Z hitch from Fastguy9r.
http://www.the370z.com/parts-sale-pr...z-hitches.html This should be the beginnig of a cool track trailer project. I'm hoping to bring gas, track tires, fuel, a shade tent and some tools on a small trailer. The biggest benefit will be no more fuel fumes in my car from leaky gas cans on track day. |
Gaskets are in. It was kind of a bitch, but the o2 codes are gone!
here's the burnt out gaskets Nissan 370Z Forum - SurfDog's Album: Surfdog 09 370z sport - Picture here are some shots post install of the new Zspeed gasket. Car's looking good and glad you solved the problem mate

I'm headed to the track this week so my hawk ceramics are coming out and Hawk plus pads are going in. they are dusty and loud, but I ran the ceramics on the track for a lap day about a month ago and missed the no fade reliability of the race pads. I will probably swap the plus pads back out after track day is over.

... The generic dot 4 is for my clutch.

I've been running two sets of 19 inch rays. OEM 09 silver, and 09 with black powder coat. I like the black better. (Some pictures of both are above in the thread)
|
Nice build! I saw that u installed the 2 piece rotors, the look like they might have been installed backwards. I think the vanes need to be towards the front

In my defense I did catch it last brake change and am planing to swap them when I pull off my track pads next week. Actually I'll probably do them once the a arms arrive. Less trips up onto the jack stands! |

SPL Front Upper Control Arms (370Z / G37) |
Whit line sway bars are on the way from Z1. (I figure with all the extra grip I'll be getting from race rubber, I'll need to be a bit stiffer)
|
White line are on back order and get poor reviews here on the forum so I've changed over to Stillen. The should arrive in a few days
|
I just ordered the Z1 400 hp kit and Stillen gen 3 CAI. Install hopefully by end of April. (i might do some DIY, but probably will leave the exhaust header to a shop.)
|
So far here's the list of all the mods I can remember: (full disclosure: two of these are still in the install stage, but the parts are on hand)
Zspeed CSC steering lock fuse dynamat from seats back 3m tint JWT clutch JWT flywheel JWT CAI then pulled out replaced with... Stillen gen 3 CAI (20 degrees cooler intake temps over the JWT) Z1 400 hp kit, which is: -Z1 upper intake manifold (ported) -Z1 exhaust manifold -Z1 Test pipes (replaced my Berk HFC's) Berk Cat back exhaust Stillen 25 row oil cooler Stillen brake cooling ducts Passport 9500ci anti cop system Quaife LSD Z1 SS brake lines Z1 2 piece brake rotors (front and back) Hawk ceramics (for DD) or Plus (for track) brake pads Uprev tune (5maps) -1: 91 octane high altitude (colorado mountains) tuned, -2: 94 octane/low altitude (for California)(with my old bolt-ons so it needs to be redone) -3: 2500rpm limit (for the valet) anti Ferris Bueler map! -4: engine kill -5: stock map billet shift knob (Tommy Hara) hatch weight removal Plastidip fangs/badges 3 sets of rims -1. sport stock (black powdercoated) (running Conti DW's -ok grip but poor track life) -2. sport stock (running Pilot All seasons -ok for cold but not very helpful in snow) -3. Black GM Advan RS 18X10+15 Used wheels (running Toyo RA1 275/35 R18 -Untried waiting for summer track days) |
it wont be long before the mods are worth more than my (used) purchase price.

Whew All my mods are in. Now I need to get in for a tune but my favorite shop (MAC motorsports in Parker Co) is all booked up for two weeks. I was going to try to go tracking at High plains Raceway on Friday, but I worry about being too lean. (new breather mods: Z1 plenum, test pipes, Gen 3 CAI, basically the full 400 hp kit)
sooooo.... I think I'm going to be a bit lean. I'd better tune before I push at the track I guess. EDIT: HPR lapping day got rained out :( |

As you can see above, my old front Fascia is BEAT!
tomorrow I'm dropping at the body shop for: 1. new OEM 09 fanged fascia (I considered Stillen but after a long soul search, I have decided the 09 fangs are just too cool to replace. What can I say, I'm a purist) 2. New windshield- I live in colorado and have 60 k miles on the window. PITTED TO HELL 3. Paint up a few chips on the leading edge of roof (I forgot to 3m wrap it when I did the rest) My only remaining uninstalled mod is the trailer hitch, probably because I'm still building the track trailer (for tires fuel/fluids, jack and tools etc) carrying fuel cans in the car is nasty (and probably dangerous) next up? I'm considering ... 1.swift springs (long overdue) 2.oil system upgrade (dry sump? upgraded wet sump? Dunno, I'm still researching. Until then, I'm keeping my rev limit at a nice "safe" 7500 rpm) |
Ordered these:

Repainted front end and roof (at long last). The facia was beat to hell. The roof had bird poop burn from previous owner
I left the fangs bare plastic. (They were previously plastidpped) I think it looks pretty good. Also added some 3m to the first few inches of roof as it was a bit chipped from last 60k miles. Attachment 103426 |
Hello summer.
Bled in some rbf600 popped in track pads (Hawk plus) bolted on the summer tires. (Beat up conny DWs) |
Installed 3m Scotchgard PRO film on the newly painted front Facia. What a PAIN!!! Whew! It came out okay though and now I'm not dreading the inevitable chips!

Any tips? |
I used a precut kit and it worked great. It's definitely a 2man job though. Not quite professional as its my first attempt but better than I feared. The fit was perfect but required about an hour and a half of sweat cussing and a bit of stretching. The facia is a pretty complex shape for one piece. I'd either get a kit like I did or leave it to the pros.
