Today, started by cleaning up the garage, just have to make more room and get ready of junk.

Also unpacked my side skirt extensions and front splitter from FS Performance engineering its a start... more to do tomorrow..

danegrey 01-08-2023 06:43 PM

Well, yesterday I did more getting the garage in order...
Today I finished off the air filters, will reinstall this week.
I also figured out how to check my front brake pads, by starting to do a brake job but not removing the brakes.

I did this because I need to know if I should replace the brakes. To my surprise I was able to do this. (note I am mechanical ineptitude, I actually think I might be able to do a brake job now.)

Well what I found out, that the front brake pads are at 8mm, new they were 10 mm. So after about 8 hours of tracking, I only used 2mm. So I will not have to replace the pads for now.

But now after every track event I will check and take measurements. Taking more measurements this year. To get a better idea of wear and tear.

Well nothing got done on the Z yesterday, mainly the GF got back in town.
But part of prepping for tracking, is to start race sims again. My son and I played 2 1/2 hours last night, just general fun stuff.

But since I hope to do AMP / Road Atlanta for sure and maybe VIR and another. Need to start practicing at these tracks too.

almost a month, funny how life just keeps moving along....
if you haven't heard. I had a problem with AAA working on my car. It wasn't the people and it wasn't the labor cost. It was the price on parts, Serpentine belt was 100 and the Belt Tensioner Assembly was 437. Now I told them it was not right, but after 4 months of being nice, 🙂 finally got a refund of 282 dollars on the parts.

So now have to start working on the Z

Things are moving forward, picking up some odd and end parts for fixes on the Z. Went to my local Nissan dealership and discover that the president of the Miata club I belong to works there. He gave me 20% discount. Any little bit helps.

Also all the fluids have shown up, so that part is ready.

Just need to get everything by 3/20, then its in the shop to get ready for track days

Ok, Been pricing a new transmission going to be between 2400 and 2500 does not matter from where Nissan or Z1, still searching.

Next need some ideas on new tires, been looking not sure I want to stay with the Falken RT660, I know I will need another set this year.
Current setup is the following:
Tires -Falken AZENIS RT660 - 275/35 18
Wheels - ENKEI RPF1 18X10.5 +15
(Square setup)

Now from chatting with all of you in the past, tire maybe a bit too small. Should probably should be 295/305 35/40 for the wheels I have.

Wondering brands sizes. Places to find them at, cost etc.

Thanks for the help

How about some scrubbed racing slicks for way cheaper than a set of 200TWs?

https://usedracingtires.com/collections/in-stock

…yes I know this is unrealistic if you’re not trailering to the track…

U mean why doesn’t he have a mini tire trailer on the Z?

I’ve thought about making my own hitch receiver since I don’t see anyone making one for our cars anymore.
edit: actually looks like there is one for the 350z. I wonder if the rear bumper bar is similar enough in shape/location to the 370z to make that work.

Or another alternative.. befriends some of the track rats whom are near by where you live, go to the same events, trailer their cars and use them for tire transport!

danegrey 02-25-2023 05:24 AM

All above too much work, and guess its cheaper to buy tires
old man excuse and I am an old man

good day yesterday, in getting the Z ready to go to the shop and on the road
  1. new battery installed with new battery holder hardware
  2. new clutch purchased
  3. driver seat re-installed
  4. seat belts re-installed
  5. cabin filter almost done, wrong filter -- also who ever did the last replacement left like 2 screws off, easier, especially the one way in back
  6. windshield washer pump still not working, have to check the fuse, which means pulling the battery, cause its in the third fuse box

so getting there, slow but sure
:happydance:

danegrey 02-26-2023 06:45 PM

Z is already, to go and play, or at least its first slow drive

- front inner fenders all installed
- nose is back on
- front wheels back on
- cabin filter installed
- fuse was ok for the windshield washer pump :( another day for that

:happydance:
