found this a bit funny, so when I did my track day at AMP 9/9/2022, I had photos taken by Point By Photography.

So they are advertising a package for this coming track night. And look what I found, its a picture of me chasing a 911, which I posted earlier.

The Z still drawing looks

I was talking to my neighbor tonight and it was a bit funny, 4 guys walked past the car and all he said, was there was a lot of looking and figure pointing.. :)

The car sits in the street in Atlanta, because it scraps too much to get it into the drive... oh well

almost 11 years old she is and still getting looks... :tiphat::driving:

Had a fun night at SCCA Track Night, nothing about setting times, more lets try to be consistence.

I did achieve it, using Garmin Catalyst my best 5 laps on one session was .71%, (that is the lap times were withing 71% of each other). For the entire night it was .92%. Which I was happy with.

So did 20 laps in 3 sessions, that were timed. (the Garmin decide to have an error and lock during the 2nd session and had to reset it)

Fastest lap was a 1.40.02, but it wasn't about time, it was about consistency and I played with tire pressures.

The most fun of the night, was when a person and I were just flowing together, I let him by. He just was a tad quicker, but for the rest of the session, I would catch him under braking and he got me in another area. It was just fun. He came up to me and thanked me, for it made the driving more fun.

A lot comments about the car again, I had pictures taken at my last track event by Point by photographer and he was there this time. Commented on the color of the car and purple in it. It was just a blast taking to him and other folks last night.

And really that is what SCCA Track night is all about, just having fun and meeting other people regardless of what they are driving and having fun.

Awesome, it’s fun running with someone with similar times, helps to push you. Straight line looked similar and you out braked him in a few corners, good stuff. I remember running the dragon with a bike one time, was a blast. How do you like the garmin, looks pretty cool?

I enjoy the Garmin, I need to do more review between sessions, but with the opportunities I turn advance coach on and it will talk to me, gives me some idea where to improve or I am doing well. Most famous advice from the Garmin 'Keep Pushing/Push Harder'.

Last Track Day of the year

It was interesting from several different points...

Set my personal best lap in the second session and improvement of .07 of a second.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G3edVWRKNk

Traffic was terrible, only because I was running novice solo (just following the rules of the organizer, more on that later). There were a couple of cars that I passed twice.

Overall a great event and really not a lot of cars.

Comment from the organizer. He came out on track and gave me a point by, and then said following me - 'He's Quick, His Lines are good, what is he doing in novice'

I actually work on passing my former instructor, he was helping another novice out, and he had good comments.

Also simply a lot of comments on the car.

Now the BAD, I did not make it through the day. In the 2nd session almost at the end. I was coming out turn 4, through turn 5 and starting to think about turn 6. The car violently pulled to the left, which was the direction I was going. Pulled off into a safe area by turn 6. I was thinking it was a brake issue. While the emergency team came, the driver front brake was smoking. Towed back. After inspection found out the power steering/alternator/water pump belt was gone. Thus the problem.

I just said to myself, why did you not think of changing it out or looking at it. A forgotten item on my checklist.

Have AAA, they came in about 90 minutes, took it a AAA garage, should be back today. I'm all thumbs when it comes to mechanical stuff.

Had a problem, but in all what I was working on there was improvement, vision, braking and being smooth. When I reviewed my quickest lap video, I cross the start/finish line at 118 mph, that was 2 mph quicker than the last PB time.

It was all fun, lots of comments, people offering help, just a fun event, even with the problem.

Thou the event organizer still wants me to have a ride along to move up to intermediate. I am going to see if they will accept the Garmin Catalyst videos.

And thanks to everyone's help on the forum with my questions.

Even with the belt issue, it looked like a ton of fun

Time to start the year of review of my track adventure.
Truth is at times its more for me, so I can revisit how the year went
But then again, just want folks that are interested in what it takes, costs :(
Will have an idea.
Over the next days/weeks will be doing a year review and plans for next year.
so forward I go :tiphat::driving:

well finally have my head, back into thinking and figuring out tracking for 2023.
So working on a the Bad and Ugly and the Good.
it will be here in a few...

danegrey 11-06-2022 10:28 AM

The Bad and Ugly and the Good story

The Bad and Ugly
  • no powershifts - do not know how I did it at Road Atlanta, but there went the 5th gear syncos
  • avoid a hard bounce at turn 11 at atlanta motorsport park, probably were I broke the fuel pump and it was laying and rolling in the tank
  • alignment and tire wear, what a hard lesson -- negative toe eats tires
  • did not stick to my budget (what budget)
  • average MPG on track about 8.
  • Rethink long road trips, because of the alignment
  • overheating -- different oil / coolant Engine Ice
  • blistering of right front driver tire -- WTF, this is going to take a lot of thinking
  • Serpentine belt failure - not much left of it just shredded to nothing half way in my last track day...
  • Serpentine belt failure caused a leak in the power steering pump - ugh

:happydance: yes, I am still dancing
