How did I miss this thread????? Just read through the entire thread, sorry to hear the bad news Ryan... I wish you good luck with the tear down.

Tata for now... the car was towed Thursday to Elite Automotive in Lakeland, FL. I'm going strictly off of a reference from a friend of a friend. I contacted Heffner Performance, but never heard back from them. A guy I've known for 8 years (used to have a built TT 350Z and now has had a Viper for 5 years) gave me his friend's number (Lee Suanders), who owns a couple Vipers that were built by Elite Automotive. Google his name and Viper and you will see that I'm in good hands:tup:

Thanks, Ray. Hopefully, it will be back bigger and better. It sucks going to Cars & Coffee without it...especially when mine is always the only coupe. At least I got to ride in my friend's Black Edition that day.

That's some bad luck brother. I hope it's not too bad.

Did you end up trading in your Z to the dealer with those problems?

Yeah...today marks 1 month that my car has been in the shop and I STILL don't even have a quote. I'm getting very frustrated! I was told Thursday, Friday, Monday, and today that I'd have a quote. I just keep getting "the machine shop is busy and I'm waiting on them."

I talked to RSI in Texas about shipping them my car, but my motor is already out. It would cost over $1000 to ship both ways. The only thing that's keeping me from taking my car/motor back is that my motor is being machined by .: Nelson Competition, Inc. - 727.321.5756 :.. They are VERY well known and are local.

I think many shops have this problem of not meeting deadlines. Will at RSI is very truthful in telling people his shop is on the slow side but he is working to remedy this. I think it all comes down to the first impression the shop gives you and how professional they are. I know Lee has a nasty Viper (which I believe is still the fastest pump gas Viper in the world) but I personally know nothing about his shop.

Damn man, that is the worst. Hopefully within the next few weeks you get a somewhat definite answer as to when it will be ready. Im sure that is the last thing you want to do, drop 1k to have it shipped to TX and have even more of a wait.

I see that that shop did Lee Saunders's Viper? Damn, I'd guess yours is in good hands then

My car is at Chris McKee's shop. He's worked with Lee Suanders for years. Lee even employed him out of his own garage for a couple year since he has a plethora of cars.

My motor is at Chris Nelson's shop for the machine work. Both of these guys have had their hands on Lee's Viper. Seeing the reputation of Chris Nelson's shop is what is keeping me grounded while I wait. I just got a text saying "Call me when you get free. Finally talked to Nelson.":ughdance:

sexy! ( the car) not what happened , hope you get her back ASAP for a speedy recovery:yum:

98intrigue 08-30-2012 03:57 PM

Well, the verdict... $6k for a OEM spec motor or $13k for a full on stroker/heads/valve job/cam motor. The thought of a beast of a motor is enticing, but the price tag is not. If I do the OEM spec motor, I can still have money left over to purchase some wheels....or I may just put the car up for sale and look for a GTS.

Haha, I hope you wouldn't think a catastrophic motor failure is sexy.

Mr&Mrs 08-30-2012 05:11 PM

13k for a beast motor! Really though 6k for an OE Spec, and wheels has to be around 10k right? The stock wheels look good go for the beast!
