nice. ive been so tempted to slide my Z but with pilot super sports all the way around i rather not since they are $1500 a set and super sticky lol

honestly though there are some roads around me (not saying i would unless they were closed down - no street/illegal race talk :tiphat:) that would make awesome drift sections.

Does it take a toll on the car? Diff, engine, tranny?

For the diff, definitely! It overheats and your vlsd turns to slush. For lsd's, the clutch discs inside wear out and you have to rebuild after so many events. A lot of guys just get an open diff and weld it together so they dont have to worry about this.

For the clutch of course. Especially if you initiate with your clutch instead of an ebrake by revving your engine and dumping the clutch at a high rpm to spin the wheels. Your flywheel also gets some marks that scream he has drifted with me.

Tranny, it depends on your hp I guess. Most transmissions are able to withstand a certain amount of power, once you exceed that things start to break. Thats why Im not looking to get boosted or make any more power than I am now. Im happy with the power and glad I bought a car that can handle it without me looking for more. To drift its more about gaining speed and then controlling that speed after inducing the oversteer.

For the engine, it you are keeping your engine revving at a high rpm so im sure that will get some wear. Keeping your rev limiter is safe so your dont blow your engine up.

LOL yeah it is. I dont get to drive my Z during the week anymore since Im taking kids to school and it doesnt go over the speedbumps at work to well. I dont get to drive it during the weekend since I go everywhere with the family. So... my 370z has turned into a drift only car and honestly its too expensive to be one. Im thinking to go back to my original plan and buying a used 350z cheap and get more serious about the sport which means roll cage, knuckles, 2nd caliper etc. This way I can start competing! :driving:

KaienZ34 05-06-2013 11:15 AM

That's cool I totally understand, hopefully you can get another Z for a full time drift machine. :driving:

simota1 05-06-2013 03:12 PM

your selling your car?!? :(

Suits 06-11-2013 04:17 PM

Great thread.

Just read from start to finish.

Good highs, good lows, all seemed great fun, seeing you progress was cool too.

Then I click the next page and you've sold it, lol.

Over.

It was like watching Lost.

VDC_OFF 06-11-2013 06:03 PM

This made me lol. Thanks for reading, but I haven't sold the car yet. Started to part out and only got as far as the exhaust and regretted that one as this Nismo exhaust I have now does not even compare. Took so long on packing the bodykit that people lost interest so still have everything else left. My wife and friends have been trying to talk me into keeping it, so as of now I still have it and will be entering another event as soon as I get back from Disney World. I just won't tandem it because I don't want to bang it up. Just having a hard time letting go of it, this is my car.

Suits 06-12-2013 07:00 AM

Oh, good news man :) .

The parts you guys have access to over there is insane.

My daughter is in Disney right now with her high school band, they played in MK night before last I believe. I hope you keep the Z, but I do understand if she must go. Just make sure that this :driving: still equals :excited: and you'll be good to go.

Really, I went to MK on the 13th and was front row in front of the castle for the parade. Saw a band from Texas perform, thought that was cool.

Got back in on thursday after spending a fun 12hrs at the airport due to delays and a flight cancellation. Made up for it with a free drift event that happened Saturday. Didnt have any spare tires so I just ran the ones I had down to the thread and had to leave after my clutch pedal got stuck on the floor. Sounds like a CSC failure. Had fun and got this wicked shot from one of the photographers at the event :)

VDC_OFF 04-03-2014 09:47 AM

Thanks guys for bumping this up. Been a while since I updated this thread so to catch everyone up I parted out the car since I was going to sell it and had it running like new. Got a lot of calls from out of state to come get the car but lots of flakers. Needed to focus on buying my house so after picking out the plan, seeing how much it cost and signing papers I just decided to keep the car. YAY! Sorry to keep going back and forth but it was everything was up in the air since I had no idea how much the house was going to cost. So now I have a stock Z to work with again lol. Time for build 2.0!

This build is going to be all about drifting since I cant afford to do much else. No more rare Top Secret parts, my car show days are over. Unless people want me to show off a drift car :) One thing I kept were a bunch of base wheels that I have been collecting. Im trying to keep only rears and as of now I have 2 fronts and 6 rears. This should be a good amount to go to a drift event with. But one thing I really miss was the sound of that Top Secret exhaust I use to have. I was able to scoop up this berk exhaust in a trade for my 19's. Looking at this exhaust it is setup just like the Top Secret and hearing youtube vids of it sounds just like it!

He also gave me some K&N intakes. Dont have a pic of them yet but I have some interesting plans for them. In fact I have some interesting plans for this whole car. Keep following this thread for some more updates pretty soon ;)

Here is a teaser:

Yeah I will be broke now but ever since I modified my headlights I have been getting people asking me to do theirs. I have done like 60 sets in the past two years so that extra income is helping me keep my car.

Oh also forgot to mention I kept one Bride seat just for me :happydance:
And what do you guys think of my wifes Juke-Z? I painted the wheels and put on the coils for her.

Sorry for not updating in a while, its been a slow year when it comes to driving at events. Ive really been focused on this new house im building and all my money has been going to that. I will move in this week and am really excited. Was going to sell my car but then my side business, Houston Halos, has really been taking off. Ive been busy every weekend working on other peoples cars, which also means less time to work on mine. But I still want to get out there after I am done with the house so whenever I can I have been slowly getting ready. Here is my proof:

Some drift spares
http://scontent-b.cdninstagram.com/h...47154473_n.jpg

And my cone gaurd
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...56786866_n.jpg

I recently I had some ideas on what else I wanted to do to my car..a problem creative people have. I even photoshopped the idea and kept staring at it until I finally scheduled the time to make it happen. Ordered the vinyl and came up with this.

Old drawing trick from middle school.
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...18888188_n.jpg

Made the line for the knifeless tape and cut.
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...24623475_n.jpg

Made more lines...
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...09787585_n.jpg

Add second vinyl color, cut more and then add awesome decals
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...01813477_n.jpg

TADA!
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...94140621_n.jpg

Also needed to explain what Houston Halos is to the people who see me driving around. These help:
http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/h...73550898_n.jpg

If you notice on that last pic, there are some scuff marks on the bumper. Yes, that means I finally got to go drifting again!! Had a cancellation on headlights so wifey suggested we hit that drift even at Mineral Wells, Texas. Its a good 5 hour hike from Houston so we packed up last minute and hit the road. Only had room for 2 wheels in the trunk along with tools and such but found someone there who had some Kenda tires for sale who would take them to the event. I love Kendas and there was also a tire mounting machine at the eventso everything worked out perfectly! I was really happy!

Anyways made a good 20 runs or so learning how to control my car at about 80mph entries. Spun out at first a few times, then learned it was because i was hesitant with the throttle. When I let off for any reason (mainly fear) the rear end kicked around and I spun. Had to untuck the nuts and go at it full throttle. Next lap I entered at about 5k rpm in 3rd gear and then clutch kicked the revs while holding the gas. Revs were bouncing pretty high but it did the trick! As long as I held the gas it kept going all the way to the transition where I had to let go of the gas to flick the car and then get on it right away after throwing the steering wheel the other direction. If I was too slow on getting on the gas the car swung too much and led to a spin. Timing is everything when it comes to transitions I learned and think this event was very successful. Also tried driving with the crap tires I went out there with and saw a huge difference when I went to something grippier up front. Even though the Kendas I scored were 225/40's, as long as I lowered the air pressure to 28lbs they were grippy enough to steer the car at high speed entries. Tires make a huge difference.

Next on the list is to install the 2nd rear caliper, find an open differential to weld, and find a cheap solution to getting more steering angle.

Here are a couple pics I found after the event. Wish I bought the green gatorade...

I applaud you man. I can only imagine how difficult it is to drift this car, she just wants to stay planted like Nissan Engineers intended. haha.

VDC_OFF 08-25-2014 03:17 PM

I actually find my rear tires always wanting to come out when I drive :P Not sure if its because they have already been drifted on, thin width or just gas happy!

Zbrah 08-25-2014 03:19 PM

Glad to hear you decided to keep the Z bro.

Can you please tell how you get your side skirts off? I'm having a hell of a time unlocking those clips closest to the rear quarter panels.

just take off all the bolts underneath, screws by the tires, open the door and pull off. They might break but you can just get replacements at autozone if that happens.

I got all the bolts and screws removed, but didn't want to snap off those clips, good to know we can find replacements at autozone. Thanks!

Dude! Sick *** thread man I love all the custom jobs youve been doing. Crazy thing is, I realized half way reading through this that you gave me advice and helped me with my wheels through Instagram when I had one lmao. I asked you a bunch of questions on how you painted your own wheels, mine still look great. I look forward to seeing more of your car

More Sidewayz!

So I pulled the trigger on the Voodoo13 steering rack extenders. Getting tired of spinning out. Not having these was the reason I still couldn't get any angle out of my car after shaving the bump stops. So here the are installed.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...c26e2c4fe4.jpg
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...984245750b.jpg
These also move the tierod forward so they don't over center in high angle applications. Since I don't have the full $4300 angle kit I don't think it really matters. Now I have to figure out how to make a boot since my old one doesn't fit anymore. Having Mike at NST make me just a regular tie rod adapter that is straight so I can keep my boot. Another issue I am running into is getting my outer tie Rod to screw in more to center the wheel back. Going to have to do some cutting I guess since the inner rod is pushed out a couple inches now. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...cfdebe49e3.jpg

Good news is I'll be able to get a few more degrees out of my steering now. I am now able to rotate the wheel until the knuckle hits the arm on both sides. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...ad4a865453.jpg
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...0e0e8afac0.jpg

Another thing I'm happy about is that my rear rim I'm running up front just barely clears on both sides.
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...83c7c345bf.jpg
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...ccdc0a2936.jpg

Final results:

Before 30 degrees, After 45 degrees
