Looking back on the pics, looks like you have a nice spot to do some wrenching. Keep at it man!

wstar 03-04-2013 09:53 AM

I've only used Nismo's extended studs, which I suspect have the correct knurling or whatever it's called, but in any case what I've been doing to install them is:

1) Set the stud lightly in place
2) Stack a few inches worth of large washers over the stud to cover most of the length
3) Put a nut on the end (same thread as your lugnuts, but just buy a few cheap ones at a hardware store to bang on)
4) Tighten the nut with an air wrench, and it will suck the stud fully seated as it tightens.
5) Remove nut + washers (duh).

I did, just ordered them from thezstore.com. Just clean the handle, remove paper from 3m and stick on! They hold on extremely tight.

Thanks! Yeah my back yard is big but I am jealous of those with a garage :( One day...

I think most do it this way but since they werent sitting in right I didnt want to risk them stripping the hubs.

Got these babies in this weekend and installed them right away. These should really help when drifting because I noticed I was only using the inner edge of the tire. This will mean more tire will contact the road so hopefully more smoke as well. I also felt like the car was to easy to kick the rear out sometimes causing a spin. I will be going wider from 245's to 265's and will be running Kenda tires which everyone seems to love so cheers to more traction and tire life :tiphat:

I have less than a week till this next drift event and still haven't installed my tie rod spacers, gonna be last minute and I still have to get an alignment :/ Ordering tires today.

Boost_lee 03-18-2013 06:57 PM

Where and when is the next event? I'd like to see this thing in action sometime!

March 24th at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque Texas. Party starts at ten and goes on until sundown (or until you run out of tires). Competition between the most awesomenesses will be around 2pm. Bring whatever you need to camp out all day (canopy, chairs, ice chest, sunscreen, BBQ pit, girls etc.) there will also be a car show if you want to enter. Look for Fabricated Motorsports on Facebook if you want to see future events.

Its not hard to install. Just need 17 and 19 wrenches, a jack, jack stands and a torque wrench with sockets and a spring compressor. Air tools make it faster. If you dont have some of those, the money you would spend on installations could buy you some. Auto parts stores has the spring compressors and I got my torque wrench at sears for like $69. I would have half the stuff i have if I had to pay for installations.

VDC_OFF 03-27-2013 01:29 PM

Here is my package I received on Friday.
http://distilleryimage10.s3.amazonaw...0a1fbcdc_7.jpg

Got just 2 mounted on the rear.
http://distilleryimage6.s3.amazonaws...0a9f1966_7.jpg

Tried to install the Powered by Max tie rod spacers but that was a fail, they didnt fit over the threads.
http://distilleryimage6.s3.amazonaws...0a9d0ec6_7.jpg

Got the car aligned saturday morning.
http://distilleryimage10.s3.amazonaw...0a9f14bb_7.jpg

Sunday ate some breakfast for luck.
http://distilleryimage7.s3.amazonaws...0a9f1939_7.jpg

Then had a blast drifting, even got to take some members on here for some rides. Had some understeer issues at first but all that changed when I switch my new tires from the rear to the front. Square setup FTW. Enjoy!

KaienZ34 03-27-2013 01:44 PM

Great job, loving it.... :driving:

Mr&Mrs 03-27-2013 07:19 PM

Awesome video and drifting!

VDC_OFF 03-28-2013 08:43 AM

Thanks guys. Some things I learned from watching this video is that after the big initiation i left off the gas a little which causes the car to straighten again. I need to keep my foot planted and commit instead of throttling up and down. This will make my drift be more smooth, more angle and more smoke. Also lowered the tire pressure for more grip but I think I lowered it too much effecting my smoke. Will need to raise it in the rears a little more.

Cant wait till the next event to get better!

Nut_N_Much 03-31-2013 08:02 PM

You can do it, you just dont have many initiation techniques as a manual. What I would recommend is shifting the weight on entry rpms and just slamming your foot on the gas while coutersteering quickly. Should get you sideways in no time

Now dont get arrested. :p

Forsberg (370z) is a Titan race motor v8 from the baja series.
The 350z I am not sure of, but probably a v8 also.

you mean tires? Depends on the tires, some last longer than others. I tried some dumlops a couple events ago that lasted 10 laps each pair. Those were crap. I tried kenda tires this last time and they lasted the whole day for me at my level of driving. Some of the better guys usually go to an event with 10-12 new tires mounted but they literally drive the whole day.

wstar 04-29-2013 02:06 PM

Wow, that sounds insanely expensive compared to a road-course weekend. I hope they make cheap tires just to burn through drifting...

VDC_OFF 04-29-2013 02:09 PM

Kenda tires has a racer program that we use. As long as you are entering one of our events you can get tires at a discounted rate. I get 265/35/18's for $130 shipped to my door. Goes down to $120 if I order 10 or more.

Dzel 04-29-2013 02:12 PM

Wow I would love to try drifting but I would not be able to afford it.

VDC_OFF 04-29-2013 02:18 PM

well at first everybody sucks lol! So you dont go through tires at all since you spend a lot of time spinning out. You only get better from practice. Once you figure it out then you start eating tires. Then once you start building your car to make hp, then you really start eating tires. But going out there and trying it out for the first time you should be fine. Im lucky to have a good job and a family that supports my hobby. Last year I only did 3 events so I see it no more expensive than golf. I figure if I were to just order two tires a month I should be good. The guys that do 10-12 are single and are serious about competing to get into Formula D.

are those the tires you prefer for their performance or just based on the price/incentives?

theDreamer 04-29-2013 02:24 PM

Jalop just posted a good article: http://jalopnik.com/fast-cheap-and-o...-rul-483856095

Both. Most of the drifters love them for that reason. I did fight an understeer issue but I'm pretty sure thats because I dont have enough negative camber up front. Once I fix that I will be able to fully evaluate the stickiness of the tires. If the issue still isnt fixed, I will have to run something stickier up front and keep the kendas in the back.
