Kaizen Progression Thread

Since everyones doing it these days, figured I would try my hand at it :)

So, I picked up the car Saturday, August 20th. Silver, 2011, automatic, with Touring, Sport, and Nav packages. That day, within an hour of getting it home, I did my first mod: hardwired my Paspport 9500i radar detector.

Congrats on the purchase of a 370Z. I have not kept up with the changes to the 10, 11 models, but see Nissan changed the radio/cd player and the a/c heating controls.

Passport h/w looks clean.

Sound clips of the exhuast tip coming soon?

Whats next on your list?

ClemsonWill 08-30-2011 12:38 PM

Still have the paper tags and already modding! It's a great start. What's next?

You should drive over to the NTTA near us and get the new tolltag. It's about 1/10th the size of the one on yours now (just a sticker w/ a chip or somethin inside) and I think it's free.

Dallaz 09-07-2011 02:25 AM

By the way your roof is sick! Did you do it yourself? And it's black not the carbon right cause you said blacked out but also mentioned carbon antenna. The fang cover goes good on silver, I can't wait to order mine

thanks. i had a vinyl place in Arlington called Synthetic Designs do it. Its just black vinyl. I might change it to cf later on, but for now i think the black roof flows well with the front and rear windows.

Future To-dos:
Plasti dip antenna
Limo Tint rear window
Black roof spoiler
Zenclosure sub box for my kicker l7
Override to play videos while driving
Possibly wrapping interior trim in cf
New shift knob
Wrapping rear diffuser in CF
CF Mirror Overlays
.... :)

b1adesofcha0s 09-07-2011 10:17 AM

I think the roof would flow better with the tinted windows if it was gloss black. That's what I was aiming for with mine. Tried it with plasti dip and it came out nice for a matte finish, but I wanted a gloss finish so I took it off. Might just go with gloss black vinyl in the future. Did your guys try to do the antenna or did you just tell them to skip it? I would need the antenna wrapped as well if I get it done.

I would have done gloss, but i heard the upkeep is a pain in the butt (at least here in texas: weather, dirt, heat)

I didnt have them do the antenna because they werent confident they would do it perfectly. They're good guys, and I trust them, but i would never ask a shop to do something they werent confident they could do.

They said that the last time they took and antenna off to do that, they accidentally broke one of the connectors. im just happy they were upfront about it and didnt risk damaging my car. Tomorrow im going to plasti dip it and see if it looks ok with the roof

I'll have to see what the guys here will say about it. If they can't do it, I will probably have the antenna painted at a body shop. Shouldn't be too expensive for that little thing.

somatic 09-07-2011 10:39 AM

i would have done that, but, remember, i dont even have metal plates yet lol. ive had the car for just over 2 weeks

That's exactly what I thought when I got mine done. Check out my Z thread photos. I have 5% all around, with gloss black vinyl roof because of how well it flows with my rear window and eyebrow tint..... Looks way more aggressive in the front. I had it done by skinzwrapz in Dallas and they did the antenna as well.

Dallaz 09-07-2011 01:52 PM

I gotcha on the toll tag. It doesn't look bad or anything but my girlfriends is always falling off the Velcro.

I think it was $250. Looks flawless including the antenna and while I was there they showed me a lot of other options cause I was wanting carbon fiber but in order to get the wet look I would have to get an actual carbon fiber roof (like $600 or something) so I went with gloss. We waited there and it didn't take long, I recommend them.

nice. i paid about the same: $220 no antenna. But they had a cf that looked wet available, i just didnt think it would look right on a silver Z

Day 19: 9/8
so i blacked out my antenna today to make it match my roof

Is it just the pictures or does the antenna look a little darker than the roof?

somatic 09-08-2011 01:07 PM

its prolly just the shadowing is different because its sticking up

Dallaz 09-08-2011 01:40 PM

Day 38 9/27
Got Cobb silicon intake hoses with high flow air filters from a dud locally. If you're from the area, you might know him: he's the dude who put a corvette engine in his miata! Super sleeper lol

That's hilarious! I just saw him cruising through the shops the other day and stopped him to ask if it was an LS in there. He went to cars and coffee last month but I forgot to ask him then. So sick. Those are nice by the way.
