I'd probably have stuck with the RB engine, but I'm probably biased since I'm building one for a S14 right now. :P

That's what I told him! This is still looking hot though.

There is a bit of a work in the cross member as oil pan hitting it which iwas easy to do, the main problem came with keeping the AC compressor along with power steering. Lots of VQ35 swaps have been done but majority of those were in US and running without AC.

RB was damn good engine but 250lb weight saving ifs huge in engine bay and specially its more of a mid engine ship now. Maybe in S14 and other cars you dont feel that much nose dive but in Z it was quiet a lot, on top of that reliability is more with VQ I guess lets see how it drives fingers crossed.

jdmlove 08-15-2013 03:06 AM

when u started the VQ swap i was all against it.. but i was sure that u had a point of view..

now i understood why u went with the VQ. a wise decision. more particular less wight.

but again, if am were you i would choose SR20DET.. coz its weight less than the RB and it can hold up to 350+HP with stock internals, installation will be much easier. and the engine is shorter than the RB, so weight distribution is better.

I really enjoy browsing your builds bro.. and cant wait to see the result.

Thanks man, SR20DET is almost same weight as VQ30 +-50lbs, but then 6 cyl and quad cams sounds better along with availability of parts freely available here, SR20 is not so common here.

Coming to power running everything stock, its gives 300hp on 2-3 psi boost and goes upto 380 on 11-12psi max you can go on stock turbo is around 14 only. Have seen some built pushing upto 550WHP with only upgrading the turbo rest stock block so future potential is there if needed which honestly I doubt will go that route on this car.

As previous wheels offsets with fender flares was not pretty aggressive had to run big spacers so I did sell those in Feb and ordered a similar set with aggressive offsets and custom bronze lip through Ravspec. finally after 5 months these reach Dubai yesterday.

Work CR01 15 X 9 - 28 and 15 x 10 -28, with custom bronze anodized lip, Sorry for crappy phone pics but these look so sick in person at times you dont want them to put on the car and make these dirty lol

Unfortunately wont be installing these at the moment as Z got sponsored from Atara Racing and they sent their wheels more like Watanabe Reps with square setup 15 x 10.5 -32 and those also reached yesterday what a timing :), Once car is all done and running again thee CR01 will go on the car.

Z at the moment getting radiator custom brackets and intercooler piping done will post some updates in coming days.

This will always be an inspiration, I hope to one day snag an old Z and do some similar work to it.

In the car, closed the stock radiator holes will make new ones from the sides for flush fan fitment

Intercooler, AC condensor and fan
http://s22.postimg.org/nymi897s1/IMG_2079.jpg

Intercooler needed custom pipes welded to come in the engine bay because of odd stock holes

All radiator, concdoesor and interocooler mounted

Custom intake and IC piping welded and polished :)

Courtesy of Atara Racing and Carbonsignal their agent locally for sponsoring my car, got my wheels 15 X 10.5 -32 square setup in bronze looks really good with huge lip there and weight also around 15lb each wheel will use these for a while then might switch to WORK

http://s24.postimg.org/jrnf45urp/IMG_2139.jpg

That is poking but wide fender flares will take care of that
http://s24.postimg.org/jg5yreebp/IMG_2167.jpg

found them a bit high so changed the tires to 205/60/15, more pics later in few days

Sh0velMan 09-03-2013 07:12 AM

Was with you up until i saw that wheel/tire combo.

A 225 was bad enough... a 205 on a 10.5 inch wheel is even more sickeningly stretched, really ruins the car IMO.

Mr&Mrs 09-03-2013 04:37 PM

Congrats on picking up the sponsor you deserve it brother. Now lets run away together.....Lol with our cars of course.

You have no idea man there arent any tires available thicker then 225/50/16 but then those are semi slick toyo R888, else you have to settle for 205 or less. 225/60/15 was very high and touching the fenders on turning.

man you have a great car!!!! nice project!!!

docaam 09-05-2013 01:25 AM

Im almost reaching there, weather isint great to go and stay at the shops and so is the place small roadside places.

Guy did a decent job on the intercooler pipes and mounting brackets, some pipes got some scratches he will get those polished those again. Made an aluminium radiator cooling plate seems a bit big but will make changes later if needed, good thing is looks a bit cleaner as the whole space is closed from front grill to the radiator, can polish or powder coat it or maybe wrapped in CF

Do you guys suggest to make some holes or slits in it as was worried if air will pull it up while driving
http://imageshack.com/scaled/large/21/vkpm.jpg

Piping seems to be good, MAF sensor is near the intake pipe long with BOV, only thing which im not that feeling is the pipe for ar filter which goes across the other side but there was no space on the other side.

Was away for a small vacation dropped the car earlier around two weeks back for wiring job as lots of body wires were there from old engine and stock ones wanted to clean up everything. for your query will check today. Also sent the dashboard to get it wrapped in leather and alcantara along with the side boards as cracks were appearing again because of the heat here.

Transmission mount is blocking the down pipe might need to be altered again once car is done, this gearbox is really big for the tunnel
http://imageshack.com/scaled/1024x768/40/2ikj.jpg

Dowpipe flange custom made because of space
http://imageshack.com/scaled/1024x768/513/9pmk.jpg

Few pics of mounts and tie rod ends custom done to move the steering rack

http://imageshack.com/scaled/1024x768/801/2j14.jpg
http://imageshack.com/scaled/1024x768/822/52v4.jpg

Removed the dashboard and its a wiring chaos back there

http://imageshack.com/scaled/1024x768/38/w3i.JPG
http://imageshack.com/scaled/1024x768/822/pzwy.jpg

But now after hooking up everything car is not starting :( seems like NATS issue, havent gone to the shop and check it not sure what to do for NATS as I thought VQ30DET comes without NATS earlier ones and have no idea how to resolve it without going for stand alone as thats the last thing I want to do, maybe will check with UPREV people as on VQ35DE/37 you can remove NATS with uprev.

All I have is the harness and ecu and I doubt I can find a gloria or CIMA here to get other parts required? Any suggestions

jdmlove 10-10-2013 08:16 AM

welcome back.. seems like you had fun in Turkey!!

really no way i can give you a suggestion but i think it something have to do with the harness
