thats great news man.... i just read the "crash" glad your ok man... and im glad your car isnt super messed up...

quagmire87 06-09-2012 04:04 PM

Sweet not much frame damage what's the estimated time until she is back to normal?

Baer383 06-09-2012 04:08 PM

Chris's car is worst than he makes it out to be but after looking at it he wants to try to fix it,the key word here is try there are alott of factors here that can't be seen with the naked eye.
when I told him he had a bent inner tie rod he said he didn't hit anything in the front till you see a gouge in the LF wheel.
What is going to keep this car alive is a good body man, good measuring system, frame rack.
If the frame can be straighted then the car can be saved if not it will be going sideways down the track.

Chris and his dad are going to work on it b/c I live pretty far away but I told Chris to call, send pics,or I will come down and help whatever it takes.

SPOHN 06-11-2012 03:18 PM

I have to say for the first time (serious) I'm actually super confindent in something. That something is knowing my car will be back.

But boy am I getting a lot of negative feedback from all around me. Don't get it. I've seen a hole lot worse and they had nothing but praise from there repair shops.

Wont hear anything negative from me, Chris. I pray that you get that beast fixed and run her as a track specific car. She is one bad *** ride and as Ive said before one of my fav cars on the forum. Even if she doesnt make it back after this accident I appreciate all that you have done w her:tup:

SPOHN 06-11-2012 07:27 PM

Thanks means a lot

Mike 06-11-2012 07:30 PM

dude, anything you need from me, I'm here.

SPOHN 06-11-2012 07:37 PM

Thanks Mike. I found I had a bent inner tie rod. I ordered that today along with toe arms. I get those on I can get it to Autoglo. I might need to borrow your trailer to get it there. ''Might". I'm taking off the front clip and side skirts so theres no issues loading onto any trailer. I'll be looking at trailers for sure now

my trailer is extremely low and easy to load. Its currently at Z1 though, but you are welcome to go get it. Keys to the locks are in my expedition though. It could be home this week too also.

SPOHN 06-11-2012 07:50 PM

No rush. It wont be till next week. Parts wont be here till Friday, Monday. Then I have to put them on. Super thanks Mike.

Mike 06-11-2012 08:00 PM

I'll have to teach you how to use it too! Its not obvious, but easy once you see it.

The reason why I say what I say b/c it is the truth it is not being negative, the reason you look on the net and say, that wreck is worse than mine and they fixed that is b/c you don't know what your looking at,that's like you and me going to the doctor both of us with broken legs and you expecting your leg to heal as fast as mine and your bill to be the same as mine and your pain meds the same as mine,

Try telling Mike flying a plane looks easy and go try it.

SPOHN 06-12-2012 05:46 AM

I wasn't really referring to you. I've took what you said and I determined beyond a doubt it can be fixed.

It can be fixed but like I said don't under estimate the damage.
Anything can be fixed, time, money, skills, tools, patients and so on determine length and quality of the repair.

wstar 06-12-2012 11:10 AM

Well, already having a stripped interior and pretty much on-track to be a track-only machine helps a lot. It means you can see and work on things easily, there's no added cost of tearing out all the interior and then re-assembling it just to do some low-level body/frame work. It also means you're willing to cut corners on aesthetics so long as it drives straight, and/or replace stuff with tube frame bits. It's totally doable. Keep the faith Spohn :).

Both posts were busted by the man!!!!!!!

I guess they are just stupid scumbags. :shakes head:

airikrankin 06-14-2012 08:53 AM

the damage is not that bad, i worked as a autobody tech in my previous career and my dad owns an autwrecking, he would buy totalled cars at the auctions and have them repaired to resell. it will def need to go to a frame shop to have the inner structure straightened out and its hard to tell if the rear quarter needs replaced. so it can be fixed and still drive straight once the suspension parts are replaced

SPOHN 06-14-2012 08:58 AM

Yea the parts should be here tomorrow. Put I'm going on mini vacation so hopefully next weekend I can get it to the body shop. Just somewhat worried about the sub frame until its actually measured. It's what you can't see that scares me.

SPOHN 06-25-2012 02:52 PM

Car is finally at the body shop. Won't be going on frame machine for a couple days though. They are going to go ahead and do all the body work also. They will be dropping the sub frame reguardless to make the pull problem free. He was pretty positive about all repairs. Even though the cross memeber that's between the shock tower was kinked a little and that can be a little concern. That's why a frame machine can pull 10 tons I guess.

I really felt good when he showed me another car that was bent to hell and now the thrust angle was perfect on it. That in the long run is the main outcome.

HKYStormFront 06-25-2012 03:53 PM

might be time for some stitch welding :stirthepot:

I really want to do Skip. I was going to do Road Atlanta this winter before my daily died and I picked up the truck. They were pretty convincing and offered some good discounts... including a $500/person discount if I brought a friend. :)

SPOHN 07-05-2012 05:14 PM

Went by the body shop today. Been there for two weeks. Yea, they haven't touched it yet. :shakes head::mad:

Guess it's different when paying out of pocket.

arghh... that is so frustrating... been there

you might consider pulling the car... sometimes these kinds of delays can be a sign for how much time they will put in when they actually do get started on it

They are a good shop and I've seen plenty of there work. Wouldn't trust no one else. He admited to the tech that will be working on it is slow. But none of his work has came back like the others. Even for small things.
