Why is BMW European Delivery Cheaper than US Delivery?

Phelan, BMW covers all maintenance, brake pads, rotors, oil, etc. for 4 years/50k miles. It will be cheaper to maintain than my Z assuming I don't do something stupid...in that case insurance would cover it.

That's a plus for the ///M case. Big savings there as I would expect to at least go through 2 sets of rotors in that time with just street driving.

RCZ, I know, my Audi was the same way

The problem is after it falls out of the maintenance plan, you pay up the arse for replacement parts and labor! That's where my big issue lies. I don't replace cars very often, I drive until I can't drive them anymore. So the Audi was a really really expensive car to maintain as it neared the end...

But if you're going to move on before it falls out, then

Yup, the price of shipping is already factored into the price of the car even after the discount. So you don't pay extra to ship it back after driving it there. You just get the discount! Also, Lufthansa gives you buy-one-get-one-free airline ticket to Munich to pick up the car, so you can bring a friend and split flight cost. They have several dropoff locations throughout europe, so you don't have to drive back to munich at the end of your trip.

As to why it is cheaper, I am not 100% on this yet, but I would assume you are avoiding some kind of new car export tax since you arent shipping out a new car, but a used one.

AAAAnd another kicker. You can choose to have it shipped to North Carolina BMW performance center and you can go pick it up there. They pay one night hotel, days food and they let you drive a similarly equipped M3 at their test track all day with a Pro instructor..all for free. Of course then you have to figure out how to get your car home after that. In my case, a nice drive down the coastline from NC to Miami. (You can also choose to have it shipped directly to your dealer).

OK, I gotta ask - what was the final price you paid, if you dont mind saying?

travisjb 10-06-2011 02:08 PM

there's something special about picking up your car at the factory, especially when you pick it up in germany and stop off at the ring and drive through the swiss mountains! really hope you can make this work out - i've driven both of those as you may remember and they are definitely bucket list life events. enjoy yourself!

I was first leaning towards a 3 year lease, but it makes more sense to buy it instead. If I do buy it, I will have it a max of maybe 2 years before I sell it. Either way, not getting anywhere near warranty limits!

I haven't bought it yet, but I think I'm getting a good deal.

Has almost every option box ticked from the packages...

MSRP $74,000

My price $63,800 w/ Euro Delivery. Not bad for a 2012 model :)

That deal is open to anyone, PM me if interested.

Absolutely, BMW has a ridiculous program. The factory tour is amazing I hear. The only problem with going to the ring is that its north of munich and everything I want to do is south! It would definitely be quite a thrill and though and it is definitely part of my itinerary. Thanks for the input, I agree, they are bucket list events!

MightyBobo 10-06-2011 02:30 PM

Well you'd better have plenty of pics, and intend to stick around the board :-p

Hey, you still have your track wheels?

Re ring... you'll be driving from Munich to Stuttgart, and then south through Zurich... the drive through Switzerland is epic, even before you get to the mountains... wish you could see it in summer but even this time of year it will be great... anyways, if you are all the way to Stuttgart, the autobahn to Nurburgring is not much time :)

finish friends tonight said he's going back as well... they were speculating williams team... still a very marketable driver

till then, here's how he's keeping busy

I heard rumors that he's talking to the Williams team but I'm not sure if I believe it or not. He left F1 because he was tired of it and I'm not sure if he would come back if it wasn't with a winning team.

He tried to get into NASCAR earlier this year but couldn't line up a (full-time) ride with a top team so he stopped looking there.

He wants to be somewhere that he can win, regardless of the series, so I'm not so sure if he'd sign with Williams but who knows...

I have the Volks for sale, but I'm keeping my RE-11's to put on the M when the PS2's die.

My Stock wheels were stolen :(

Grats, sounds like the part-out is going well at least.

Well, at least the parts you got rid of willingly...

RCZ 10-06-2011 03:57 PM

^ hehe, took me a second.

I figure someone on the boards will have some wheels for sale....I should probably start looking now.

They're around...too rich for my blood though. I want wheels that are curbed and ****, with no TPMS. Good track wheels :-p. Not sure if I want to lose my width for meat by dropping to the 18's, either...thoughts?

Calvin 10-06-2011 05:12 PM

how much you selling the ce28 for pm me! lol

RCZ 10-06-2011 05:22 PM

My thoughts are square setup with RPF1. Cheap, strong, readily available wheels and I think they make them in 18X10 and 19X10.5.

Would be funny if I sold the Volks and sc in one day..PMing.

phelan 10-06-2011 05:45 PM

lol it'd be fun if the wheels returned to CA :p

So how's the car sale going? All parts sold? Car sold? I assume not yet...

I'm glad your part-out went smoothly. I hope the new car is great!

370Zsteve 12-17-2011 08:45 AM

Great to see the part-out went smoothly, Raul. :tiphat:

Listen...re modding the M3....I know your plan is to sell it while still under the wonderful full-maintenance warranty BMW offers (the ONLY Euro car to buy for this reason alone imho)...

But there is a guy around here with a Supercharged M3, I think it's an ESS build. He pulled out behind me from a gas station while I was on the Merritt Parkway, I think I was doing about 75. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw one of the most amazing bits of acceleration I've ever seen outside of a race course. Damn thing looked like it was literally shot out of a cannon.

So...good luck keeping her stock and good luck with the new ride.

Part out went almost completely smoothly except for some delays in the shipping/finishing getting the car back to stock. Took a lot longer than expected. Some people are just getting their stuff now and there is one thing left to ship STILL. Needless to say I'm pretty embarrassed right now, but I'm hoping people will understand that it happens sometimes. I have been honest and straight forward with everyone and I think that has kept everyone cool through this. Some folks have been super patient and I can't thank them enough for it. At least it will all be over tomorrow when I get my car back.

Yeah, still have my car since I haven't been able to even start selling it yet. Its OK though, the M3 can wait a bit since it's still pretty snowy in europe; specially the alps. There's someone running 10.6 with an SC on their M3 already so I don't doubt it in the least bit. The problem though is that the kits are ~16k+...so I will not be supercharging it if/when I get it.

I appreciate the comments guys, I haven't been coming on these threads too much since I've been pretty busy and bummed about not having a car!

sig11 12-19-2011 07:37 PM

I got the control arms Saturday, RCZ. Just in time for me to put the car up for the winter! :P Thanks again. Meant to send 'ya a PM but I've been pretty busy.
