LateralG'z 370Z Journal

I am starting My 370Z journal. My car has just reached 900 miles. I have lots of plans for the car and plan on doing it in several stages. Unsure how long each stage will take but plan on making it as fast as possible and the car as fun/fast reliable as possible because I love modifying everything. I will update this as much as possible (with pics & vid clips) and hope that it is fun. I am going to buy some parts that I think will make the car stand out for fun.

All these parts are on order I am expecting to get started in the next two weeks. Will be getting lots of great help from failsafeperformance in Tulsa, OK Failsafe Performance I am really excited to play with such a fun toy. My current thoughts of the car Handling: The car right out the box is great. It hugs the corners well and yet doesn't punish you driving around the streets of Oklahoma (crappy streets). I am definitely planning on doing some work to this aspect but I am very impressed. 7/10 Motor: I am also impressed. It pulls really strong through all the rpm's all the way to the top. It is strong enough that I can kick it out without slipping the clutch, just throttle in second at 3 g's that is a nice and torqy motor. I can even get it to break in third without the clutch. I am excited to see how much better it gets with the restriction removed and a tune. The synchro rev actually works great and is not as cheesy as i thought it would be. I love heel and toe but I am not that good and I will now really suck at it. 7/10 Interior: after car shopping around before buying my Z, I think it is much improved from its predecessors and other comparable cars. 6.5/10 and I apologize for my poor English and spelling throughout this process. |
Looking forward to pics/vids...

Found this sick sound clip of a Z34 with saclam exhaust. I hope mine sounds this good. I am really loving this sound. I am hoping all my first set of parts arrives by the end of the week so I can have the car done by next weekend.

looking forward to your progress!

Thanks, you have the sickest and most detailed thread. I am hoping to have my car head towards your cars set-up(full race toy) but just in longer stages. I hope I can bounce some suspension set-up with you once I change all that stuff.

Here are some pics from the install. I have a ton more but I need to crop the files down they are too large. Everything installed well with out a fight and now the car has BTP's, Stillen G3 intakes, mines Y-pipe and Saclam exhaust. Chris from Failsafeperformance did a great job and everything looks absolutely top notch. He did some nice preventative things so the intakes don't rub. Thanks Chris for a great job on the car. Saturday I am having him install a GTM competition oil cooler. Then an uprev tune to make everything run even better. The next thing that will be order in Tein suspension and camber kits for the car. I will take some sound clips tomorrow and post them.
It sounds really mean and like no other Z so I am happy at this moment but won't be totally happy till I take the car for Rip and see. Can't really describe the sound but I really like what I have heard just quickly as we put the car together. Will crop or re-size and post more photos tomorrow. Attachment 11331 Attachment 11332 |
Okay so I now have everything installed and the exhaust is absolutely amazing sounding. I will post a clip soon by the way. My window pop down and up when you open & close the doors is now staying down. It pops down but when I closed the door it won't pop up? I am totally baffled why. Has any experienced this when you changed the headers, exhaust intakes etc...? I don't know if I just need to pull the battery connection for a while or what? Please give some guidance to remedy this little annoying issue. Thanks

|

|
Here are some quick sounds clips. Will make some more and do an update with pics next weekend
|
sounds really good... for a street car :P
car is coming along nicely! |
Nice sound. What is a ball park price for an exhaust like that? How many HP do you think it will net?
Have you lowered the car? I'm in Oklahoma City and I'm new to the Z scene. I'm considering something simple like lower springs, but I dont know who I can trust to get the car aligned. Any thoughts? Will I need addiional suspension compenents to correct the camber? I don't care about agressive camber because I'm just driving around town and I want my tires to last. |
 Saclam is simply the best sounding exhaust for the 370Z, period!

I am planning on doing my suspension next. I am pretty sure you will need a camber kit if you lower the car. It usually gives the tires a fairly aggressive camber and the basic adjustments may not be enough to set it back so you wont burn up the tires fast. I would actually check with somebody who actually knows if springs will be an issue. I just know I will need them for my suspension change. I use Fail Safe Performance here in Tulsa. I am really happy and would recommend them to you. I have seen his car and a couple of other people Z's he has done and it is very professional and the shop is really clean. We just did and oil cooler, exhaust etc... and I was there the whole time. He took his time and went above what I expected by adding rubbing protection to my intakes etc... He also looked at the GTM kit he order and he recommended we ditched the lines and we made much better lines ourselves so I have the piece of mind that they will not blow apart like some of the other accidents that have been reported on the forum. He was very considerate of my annoying tendencies to be watching and adding my input to the car. I will be posting some of the work soon. He also gave me great competitive pricing.
Failsafe Performance I bought them slightly used ($2000)so I got a great deal on the exhaust. It is really expensive $3500 but I am loving the sound right now and it appears to help with the power to me but I may be lying to myself to make myself justify the spending. I don't really know though and we are going to dyno the car this week so I will be able to give some actual information about the exhaust and performance. I love the sound and the video clips really don't do any justice. I would actually pay full retail for these just because the way they make the car sound. Quote:

Thanks, I hope to be heading the car in a similar direction like yours soon. Just not as fast.

Just got back from my base Dyno pulls with Chris From Failsafeperformance with the bolt-on parts and I am happy for just exhaust, G3's and BTP's. I will post the really good sound clips as well,

Dyno pulls, Th e exhaust is defining from behind. I love it

Sheesh! Your car SCREAMS! Sounds amazing, like an Italian exotic. A bit too loud for my tastes, as in I wouldn't put it on my DD, but for a weekend car, hell yes.
|
The car is quieter than stock until you step on it, then it sounds so amazing

Hey everyone,
I now have been driving the car for a week and everything is great so far. My only concern is that the oil cooler seems to be stuck wide open. I have been driving the car in 80 degree weather and it was keeping the oil temp at 190 to 210 depending on how long i was running it hard so I was really happy to see this. I think it will work great on the track on the heat. The last two days have been colder around 56 to 60 degree outside air temp according the car. The oil temp was stuck around 160 degrees and unless i let it idle for a while it would only reach 180 degrees and then once driving cool back off to 160. This sort of thing make me think it is stuck on. It also took twice as long to heat up when i was driving down the highway. The kit that it is on the car is the GTM kit and thermostatic plate is not suppose to open until 180. "These devices are designed to be installed between the engine block and oil filter and easily allow engine oil to be circulated for remote oil cooler installations. Adapter comes with built in thermostat (180degree) which accurately controls oil flow to the cooling device allowing for quick engine warm up plus oil system protection in cold climates." not sure if i have a bad "SANDWICH PLATE ADAPTOR WITH BUILT IN THERMOSTAT (180 DEGREE)" from GTM or if I installed incorrectly. though doesn't seem to hard to put together. The only other thing of, is that the oil temp sensor it near the oil cooler return line and i am just getting a wrong readying. I just want my oil temps to sit between 180 to 220 degress. Has anyone had this problem before with their oil cooler? any words on how to remedy the colder oil temps? Do I need to take everythign apart and inspect it. I have a filter mag on the oil filter but I highly doubt that is having an effect. Thanks |
You said you planned on getting uprev tuned, where will you be going for that? I don't think Failsafe has their software or is a certified tuner locations of theirs, but I could be wrong. I have the same mods as you basically, intake/exhaust/test pipes and soon headers and I'm pretty sure my AF is out of whack so I'm not sure where to go to get tuned besides Texas.

Yep Chris answered, Failsafe we ran the dyno for fun and when my ecu comes back we will go back and tune. If you don't have headers you won't be to out of whack although I still recommend getting it done. I was actually fairly good minus a short run where is was a little lean in the low 13's nothing bad though. failsafe is getting a dyno soon so that will be great because every mod will be tested to see what kind of gains I see, I am excited about that.

Hmm guess I'll be giving Failsafe a call for sure sometime soon then(supercharger in the works also), nice 370z btw 2500 on an exhaust is nutz haha, have yet to see any modded Zs around the city except a blue one, let alone any G's.
|
I don't drive it daily but I am out making a city lap at night almost every night. We usually go to cars and caffee on 61st and yale when they have it. I am heavily weighing the supercharger too. Suspension and brakes are my next big ticket items coming. Would love to catch up and do some driving.

Here is my oil cooler installed. Started with GTM competition Kit, I didn't like the lines so Chris and I made some of our own. Everything seems to be working great now. Figured out the oil temps during the cold weather. The other day it was 85 out and oil temp was at 190 degrees with the being WOT. I will definitely be glad when it starts to get real hot out and I am at the track.

Here are some video clips from my first track outing at Hallet Raceway in Jennings, OK. Everything went really well. The oil cooler kept the oil below 240 the entire time and averaged a little over 220 so that was great and there are no oil leaks so pretty sure the kit gets an A+. I had a blast and ran pretty good for stock suspension and tires. I have already bought some Tein Suspension and camber kits for the next round. This is so addicting like all my all other sports. Damn I am getting broke fast and loving every minute of it.
|
Tein mono flex's and camber kit just got finished and Now my Stillen supercharger kit is here. Will definitely have lots of photos and writeup on both.
|
that track looks like fun
