VR30 Swapped 370z
I’m currently doing a VR30 swap on my Z and I’m kind of wondering who else is out there that has done it. More and more keep surfacing the more I dig.
But, I’m going to post everything needed to continue both on this forum and on YouTube. I’m hoping we can all share info and tips for anyone else that is interested! https://youtu.be/TKJvTjEwr_0 |
Get in touch with MAM and Z1. They both worked on the Club Sport.
|
Why would you bother? You can do a top of the line Fast Intentions TT kit with supporting mods for about the same price I would suspect and get more power.

They actually did the swap on their time attack car, but I think it was a temporary swap. |

The newest SEMA build car is a CJM TT VQ37. |

But the BEST reason is why not 🙃. It was a idea while shooting the sh*ts at the shop and then I thought “why not”. But the difference in price is so far not a fair comparison. Total spent as of now: $1,700. |

I do plan to air out everything 100%. I figured that’s why I’m getting no help from companies, but from the Z community itself. |
Looks like you are doing the work yourself. That will explain the difference in cost vs an FI kit.

But I’m assuming you guys will be right. It might near the cost after all the bits and pieces add up. For sure a lot of fun so far lol. |
Contact jon@ma-motorsports.com and see what he says. Like I said, they did the first one.

If any company could do a smoggable vr30 swap with a 6 speed, I’d probably pay more for that than any tt kit on the market

Subbed for awesome-potential.

Is it done yet??? https://themustangsource.com/forums/.../stickpoke.gif I've been keeping up with you on Youtube. Not trying to rush BUT HURRY!!!
|
It's awesome that you pulled this off, and for a budget that is within just about any enthusiast's reach. Hell, being originally from South Florida, I'm proud you guys are out of Miami.
That said, I find your videos unwatchable as an observer that's interested in the details of the build. If you want a higher view count, focusing a lot more on tech and less on your friends shooting the **** would make a big difference. I'd suggest editing down what you have to make a compressed overview. |

Bro, I REALLY hope this stays in budget. It’d be a fun and different alternative. I feel like we’re all doing the same thing and it was time to put some more life into the Z34. Thank you for the feedback, brother! |

so total noob question (stupid question time yay!!) but if this all just bolts up - would it then be easier to upgrade to bigger turbo down the line since everything within that engine pretty much setup for a TT setup?
Also - i've checking out your channel on YT as well - this could/will be an interesting build - can't wait to see how it goes etc. |
Very cool. Many people have been interested in this for a long time. Maybe an affordable option for this swap will be made after all.

Maybe because you lose out on AC and PS (We found solutions but we have test it out) or maybe they think it’s a more complicated process. Who knows. It’s smarter to upgrade the turbos with the motor out but I want to capture all the stages I’m going through. I hope to have it all laid out for everyone. |

Good luck! |
Finally got to test fit and it’s insane how How smooth this went! Also listened to the feedback and had fun with it. I’ll post in depth photos tomorrow.

Thank you for supporting, bro! It’s very motivating to keep doing this 😁 |
If you watched the video you see that the VR30DDTT fits like a glove in the Z34 chassis. I was expecting a lot of fab work for the plumbing and some kind of clearance issue on the sides, but it just drops in.

Just ignore the shirts plugging the BOV couplers (I’ll install the HKS BOV 100% this weekend). Overall it’s so far so good. Only issue I’m dealing with is having the transmission (keeping it 6 speed) line up as two holes don’t match. I’m ordering new motor mounts and the coolant line kit from CZP to have a clean look and just get new hoses to kinda refresh. Also, I want to do the seals to refresh the motor. I’m 10 out of 10 excited and glad I decided to take on the project! So far I’m under $2k total spent. Let’s see where I’m at next week! |

Interesting swap. Did you land on the VR30DDTT exclusively because of price and compatibility?
I don't blame you if you did. I'm working on an LS swap and getting everything built and changed over to how I want it is some work.... A lot of work. |

It was an idea entirely thought out of boredom lol. Just to see if we could do it. Then it turned into “is this cheaper than a FI kit”. Now it’s “let’s just do it” lol. I am trying to budget as strict as possible so the regular enthusiast can make the same move if they like. Good luck on your LS swap! I’ve always wanted to give that a go. |
