It seems like a common issue for 370z track users...It is starting to bother me with the constant filling up. Some guys like Travis and Phunk have been starting different projects to solve it. Any ideas Mike???

I haven't done anything as far as fuel starvation aside from trying to convince a few companies to make some sort of surge tank kit for the car. I don't have a shop or fabrication skills so I will have to wait until someone releases a kit. :)

370zForever 03-23-2010 03:39 PM

lol, phunk has completed a road race pump that should help fuel starvation (???), it's being tested now....

M.Bonanni 03-23-2010 04:46 PM

COBB Tuning AccessPORT just arrived! I don't have a tuned map for it yet, but nevertheless, I shall retire to the garage for a while to play around with it!

vipor 03-23-2010 04:47 PM

nice

theDreamer 03-23-2010 04:48 PM

I am sure you can remove that pesky top speed limiter. :D

M.Bonanni 03-23-2010 11:43 PM

Installed the COBB AccessPORT today, but admitedly didn't mess around with it very much aside from checking out some of the datalogging and live monitoring features. I am already in love with it though. So many interesting things that can be monitored and/or datalogged for track use and/or testing out products for companies. Wish I had this when I tested out the parts that are already on the car. I am going to have a lot of fun with this thing. :)

I'm going with a Cobb as well, Mike. I assume you are talking about the 135i and not your Z?

No, he IS talking about having it on his 370Z, not the Berks 135i.

Hope I helped... :tiphat:

M.Bonanni 03-29-2010 10:57 AM

^^^Hey Scott!

Yes, I am talking about the 370Z. They don't make one for the 135i.

sylenze 03-29-2010 11:32 AM

yo mike, since ur sponsored by COBB.. do you have more info on what they're doing with their 370z (their mystery machine) and their successes on tuning it...

Unfortunately not, but I will ask. I saw the car at the Redline Time Attack this weekend, but didn't get time to go over and talk with them. :(

Will do once I get it a tune done which probably wont happen this month.

M.Bonanni 04-07-2010 11:43 AM

Quickie update...

The 370Z has been busy on the "show" circuit displayed at the opening round of the Redline Time Attack series, a visit to Vivid Racing in AZ for a charity event over there, etc.

I have the Fidanza lightweight flywheel in hand ready to go on the car and want to try to get it on here sometime next week. I also am waiting on AE Performance to get a complete oil cooler kit in stock and then I will order that bad boy as well.

There is a track event on the 17th that I REALLY want to go to out here in Las Vegas with the 370Z so I am hoping to have the oil cooler kit here in time to get it on the car for the event. I will have to run on really old Nitto NT05 tires which won't be very fast, but at least I will get some seat time on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway track before the Redline Time Attack there in a few weeks. Surprisingly, I have never driven that track.

vipor 04-07-2010 12:28 PM

Ooo goin with the long oil cooler?

M.Bonanni 04-07-2010 12:30 PM

Yessir!

ZForce 04-11-2010 12:32 AM

AE Perf oil cooler FTW. It's been on my wish list since they introduced it. Maybe you can post pics up without the bumper. Seems Paul @ AE is too busy to post them up for us, but understandable.

Curious to see (hear) if the flywheel is gonna have the cement mixer sound that is common (on the Z33) with lighter fly wheels.

Have fun at LVMS and maybe we will see some onbrd vid-ee.

JB-370z 04-12-2010 05:42 PM

Did your SSR's come in. I want to see them on the car.

Yes I will certainly post bumper-less pics. They are backordered right now so just hoping to get one in time to run at LVMS.

Nope :(

M.Bonanni 04-14-2010 12:29 PM

Picked up the car from Paladin Advanced Automotive this morning!

Fidanza flywheel was a lot quieter than I expected. It is noisier than stock at idle, but even with the radio on low it drowns it out. Acceleration is noticeably better as well. Pretty happy with it, especially since it was free. :)

AE Performance oil cooler should be in my hands sometime tomorrow, install on Friday along with some other maintenance stuff, then the car is ready for the track event on Saturday!

vipor 04-14-2010 12:31 PM

Did you put in a clutch at the same time or what?

Still have a bearing rattle or whatever in 1st and 2nd?

No still the stock clutch. The only reason I did the flywheel is because it was free. I didn't want to spend the extra on a clutch as well. To be quite honest, I want to say that I didn't notice the 1st/2nd bearing rattle thing. I will pay more attention to that specifically the next time I drive it.

vipor 04-14-2010 12:56 PM

I notice it when I wear flip flops or don't have my seat right and get a crappy lurchy start

M.Bonanni 04-14-2010 01:15 PM

Side note...

The service from AE Performance is AWESOME. Ordered my oil cooler at around 5:30pm last night and its already out for delivery here in Vegas. I am pretty sure that is after the normal FedEx pick up time so I think they went out of their way to make sure it got out yesterday knowing I had to have it on the car by Friday night for the track.

AE Performance oil cooler kit just showed up! MASSIVE core, love it!

Hi Mike,

Can you post the rough dimensions of the core?

I'm trying to plan out the space up front there and make sure I have room for an upgraded PS cooler as well.

22" long
8.5" tall
2" thick

Thats just the core. Not including fittings and mounting bracket.

ChrisSlicks 04-14-2010 04:53 PM

Perfect! Thanks Mike.

BTW I looked up the specs on this core and this is the most expensive core that Setrab makes, which explains the cost of this kit. It is rated for 40000 BTU's of cooling on a wet sump engine.

Paul@AEperformance 04-15-2010 02:43 PM

LOL, we don't mess around

We spared no expense w/ this kit, best core, lines, fittings, and adapters.

We quit playin game's in the 1st grade. ;)

p.s It will fit np w/ ps cooler. We recently did a customer car w/ both coolers.

M.Bonanni 04-15-2010 06:35 PM

Installed photos!

Very high quality parts in this kit. You get what you pay for. :)

theDreamer 04-15-2010 06:42 PM

Not sure it is big enough. ;)

M.Bonanni 04-15-2010 06:49 PM

:D Not playing around anymore. This car should be able to do as many laps as I can throw at it now...well...at least until I burn 1/8 tank of gas and then fuel starvation sets in. :(

vipor 04-15-2010 07:43 PM

I love it. /steal

What'd you do with the ps cooler? Just push it out in front?

Caravanshaka 04-15-2010 09:36 PM

I've seen FMIC's smaller than that thing! lol

I just reversed the mounting tabs so it sits back toward the radiator more, then I had to move it towards the left a little so the hoses would clear and add some longer hose (provided in the AE kit). PS cooler sits right behind the oil cooler now. You can kinda see it behind the lower oil line fitting in the 2nd pic.

vipor 04-16-2010 10:03 AM

That won't cause any heat issues? I know as large as the AE cooler is it probably doesn't get too hot, but there isn't any real direct airflow on the PS cooler anymore?

370Zsteve 04-16-2010 10:05 AM

Mike, any updates on your COBB AP? played with it at all? Dyno tune?

We'll find out, but I don't think so. My old 350Z time attack car had no issues with the same power steering cooler sitting behind our oil cooler, which was also half behind the bumper cover. That car also had big stick 295 wide race tires up front.

Nope, not yet. There is nobody in Vegas who knows the AP so I am going to have to make a trip down to SoCal to get it done. Just haven't had the time lately.

ZForce 04-17-2010 02:11 AM

Thx for posting up pic of O/C. I know you are setting up the car for track, but let us know how fast it heats up the oil to proper temps for the DD and during cooler weather conditions.

LiquidZ 04-19-2010 06:29 AM

Mike, any comments about how fast oil temps get up to 180 degrees during normal driving?
