sneak peak on some of the exterior add-ons. i decided to stay pretty mild with just some CF accents. i love all the body kits and options for the Z but I wanted to stay close to the original look. Since, that's what I fell in love with when I bought the car.

Thanks fellas. I have to sort through some others, but will post them asap.

how much of a difference did the 2 piece rotors make on driving feel? They drop an insane amount of rotational weight.

Beautiful looking ride

thanks for all the compliments guys.
hope to be able to update with some of the new stuff in the next few weeks. car was in an accident, and that got my gears turning. car is currently in the shop. nobody was injured and no other property was damaged. I will share the full story once all the dust settles; along with some more pics. |
So it's been a bit since I updated this thread.
At ZdayZ I got bit by the dragon, and wound up having some body damage to my Z. Nothing major, mostly a bent rear fender, and a couple of destroyed wheels and tires, and a scraped up engine cradle. Worst part, I wasn't pushing anywhere near the limit. Still wouldn't be able to tell you what happened other than an unforeseen understeer situation on a relatively open left hander. Which caused my front tire to go off the inside/mountainside ditch, grind skateboard style on underside of the car (hence the cradle damage), caught a rock/high spot which threw the car back on the road, and somewhere in there the rear tire managed to catch the rear fender and pull it inward, damage the tire, and bend the rear wheel. Front wheel took the worst of it with chunks missing out of the wheel and a pretty shredded tire. Didn't have a chance to really stop and look around as my mind immediately switched to, GTFoff the mountain before law comes by wanting to write a ticket, as well as @#$%@$# I am 6 hours away from home. Wound up riding down the mountain with two spare tires on the passenger side. Had my wife meet me roughly halfway with a spare set of wheels, so i could drive the rest of the way home comfortably. After getting it home I've had the cradle replaced along with various other components that took some damage, and the bumps and scrapes repaired and painted. With the rear fender damaged, it seemed and opportune time to go widebody. So I have been down that rabbit hole for the past couple of months and am finally throwing the $$$ down to make it happen. So stay tuned for that. Meanwhile, I am upgrading a few other things. First thing up is increasing oil cooling capacity. One 34 row crammed between the radiator and intercooler just isnt cutting it. Car was getting way too much heat up on the mountain (probably because I try to live above 6000rpm) So, I am going with two 34row oil coolers with fans, and planning to vent out to the fender well. Picked up a couple of the 34-row Derale coolers and am going to be working on some custom brackets to get them mounted where I want 'em. Edit: Looking at the photo it looks like I got sent two 40 row coolers.... going to do another measure and see if I can cram them in there. 80rows of oil cooling would be fantastic. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...psftixwlc0.jpg Finally going to install my ATI Dampner. Looking at trying out the Z1 fuel starvation and a custom roll bar as well. anyway, more photos to come... |
Finally got around to mocking up the two oil coolers and making some brackets. Good news is they fit. Bad news, none really, unless you consider a little chopping of the front radiator support bad news. So with a little creativity and removal of the windshield washer fluid tank I managed to get 80 rows of cooling power behind the front bumper.
I am also relocating the supercharger cooler and adding a 10 row PS cooler while I am in there. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...psx0ocmh2k.jpghttp://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...psnivablgn.jpg Got just far enough to know for sure that it will work. Still have to fab up a couple more brackets and vent the fenders. Will post pics of the final product. For now, I have pulled it all off and am going to focus on getting the performance parts back on. Looking forward to some deliveries from Carbon Signal and Strasse here in the next few weeks as well. Hope to have it all together by Thanksgiving, but we'll see how that goes. and an old ZdayZ photo for the road. this one was taken minutes before the accident. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...pszmclkrqb.jpg |
Awesome dude!! BTW I spot in that pic the flag of Puerto Rico

We, the Boricua people always have that flag in our hearts! And thanks for the comment bro! I hope to upload a few pics soon hahah! Looking forward to your project! |
Another delay in getting the car back together. Fortunately I am still a few weeks out from receiving the MoonBeam kit and Strasse Wheels.
Started prepping the car for the big change and discovered this damage. Good news is that it a completely replaceable part, and the shop is covering the damage. I am a bit suspicious about the fact that they didn't find it themselves, but to their credit, and strangely enough, the fender was aligned nearly perfectly. Like a lot of us I am pretty OCD about my car and looked at all the lines. Best I can figure it crushed the mount points then flexed back. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...pssldf0mzn.jpg |
All fixed and ready to go back under the knife.
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...psd9u0am7x.jpg Moonbeam kit shipped. Strasse wheels are in final QA checks. Tires arrive tomorrow. Gotta get serious about getting the SC and supporting mods back in there so I can focus on making her even prettier. |
tires just arrived last night. would have used a $100 bill but only had the dollar left after buying the tires :ugh2:

Repped on your build and for the PR flag

Thanks brother.

Wheels just passed QA
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...28646e32fa.jpg Looks like things are starting to come together nicely. |
Decided to take a dive in to the abyss. Started replacing the 3 center gauges with some 60mm Defi gauges.
At this point there is very little of the original pods left in tact. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...52ac21386b.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9c61aec252.jpg The other two were ripped out shortly after. |

Hey dude, how does the dual Derale 40 Row oil cooler compare to the more traditional 34 row 370Z oil coolers, or even against the AAM R line oil cooler?

Plus the price is hard to beat. Once you start routing braided lines and buying AN fittings things add up quick. Setrab units definitely have a slightly better fit and finish. However I would say these units seem pretty damn solid for roughly half the price. One day I might eat my words but I am not worried in the least about my decision to go with these vs setrab. Didn't look in to the rline type. So can't comment there. |
Thanks for that info!
|
Build and story is phenomenal glad you are ok from the accident, def subbed! Looking forward to more. Cheers and Happy Holodays with some Coquito!
|
Sub'd to the build!! Like 370zHawaii said, awesome build and story. In for more details on how you like your SC kit as well because I'm thinking of buying one. I'm Scared to buy anything from gamma though lol

Should have some updates soon. I have my wheels and tires and the Moonbeam kit is stateside but seems we have to sort one form out before it will clear customs (just some clerical BS) |

The other option is to see what RJM comes out with. Personally I would have liked to see some innovation on a centrifugal blower but if they pull off this roots type it should be pretty badass. Then of course there is Stillen. Guys seem to be modifying these and getting g equivalent HP numbers or maybe a little higher than the Gamma. Overall I am a SC guy. I like the linear way in which they make boost. 450-500whp was my goal and I am happy with the cars balance at this level. If you think you will ever want more than that go turbo. |

Thanks for the info man. I like the rotrex supercharger so I've always been eyeing this kit. Seems to make good power as well. The stillen kit with air to air conversion kit seems to do well but I'd hate to drop that money on a brand new kit and then spend another 2k going air to air. I prefer supercharger as well because It's just easier lol. I wish someone made pro charger type kit Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Im in the same boat as you George. I was originally planning on Stillen with A2A, but the added cost for doing that plan makes it a bit steep. So decided it's probably better to go Gamma, already has A2A, is quality and cheaper.
But then I might hold out for the RJM SC, might wait lol the power bugg is really itching me... |
got around to installing the new CS fenders and front bumper.
i have never installed aftermarket fenders before, so i have no real reference on how long it normally takes to get them aligned, but i spent a long *** day in the garage getting them done. i would say fitment vs OEM is like 8-9 outta 10. next step is test fitting the overfenders and then start hacking bits off the car. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...psziyvebpc.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...ps16keoiro.jpg |
photo of what i thought would be my final cooler setup. turned out that the 40 row on the RH side interfered with the intercooler piping, so i had to step down in size. literally didnt work by about 3/8" I'd mocked it up before starting, but the final setup just didn't clear. I'll post final photos soon.

Can't wait to see your completion of the Moonbeam install. I have a MB spoiler sitting around for almost a year, it's painted but still deciding if I'm going to install or not.
|
I plan on starting the test fit today. I won't lie I am a bit scared to hack the car up. I figure I will start by hacking up the front fenders since they are replaceable hahaha.
After seeing the Moonbeam wing in person I actually like it more than I thought. Definitely will post up pics. |
Going has been a bit slow, mostly because i have been trying to sort out the mounting hardware for the overfenders.
Decided I didn't want to go with the cheap and easy rivet option, so I am using rivet nuts and machine screws to mount things up. Which meant picking up the threaded riveter and ordering rivnuts and black oxide stainless screws. unfortunately i misjudged the diameter of screw head and the first set came too small. fortunately, i was able to use some washers and make them work for mounting the front lip. http://i1347.photobucket.com/albums/...psorm1t8gt.jpg Also, here is a couple of quick vids of my Defi gauges on startup. I am happy with the setup... the only thing I forgot to take in to consideration is that the EcuTek hijacks the factory oil temp gauge for the traction control. At this point I am mostly guessing. Fortunately I was able to look at my brothers gauge to get a count of how many settings there are. http://i1347.photobucket.com/albums/...pszkyn1ng3.mp4 --------------------------- http://i1347.photobucket.com/albums/...pscodzn6om.mp4 I have also been giving some serious thought to having my intercooler thermal coated black. Cost is pretty reasonable, and it seems there are some gains for low speed cooling. Mostly I just think it will look better. Thoughts? |
Looking good, cant wait to see the fender work.
|
I love how that front lip looks!
|
Quite a story leading up to this! glad you did not get hurt im digging the new set up this is will be a beast!
