Thanks!

Ryan and Marco at MR Works are great guys and will take care of you. I'm very happy with the work they did on my headlights. Can't wait to see some pics when you get everything done!

4th oil change done today at 16663 miles. I stretched this one out a lot longer than I expected (8150 miles), not on purpose but just had a lot of other stuff going on and changing my oil kept getting pushed down the list. I felt ok about letting it go so long since I had good stuff in there, but I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the UOA from Blackstone.

Parts list from today:
  • Redline 5W30 (6 qts)
  • Purolator Pure One filter (PL14610)
  • Nissan OEM drain plug washer

I installed these bulbs today in the headlights. I've changed all the other white bulbs in my car to 6000k LEDs and these were the last ones I needed to complete the look. Install was pretty easy, here's how it went:

1 - Jack up car and remove front wheels (the bulbs can probably be replaced without removing the wheels but it's easier to just remove the wheels and have a lot more room to work IMO)

2 - remove the plastic pop connector at the front of the fender liner (removed in this pic)

http://www.the370z.com/members/schru...3-imag0010.jpg

3 - remove the bolt just under the bottom of the fender liner under the car (just in front of the tire in this pic)

http://www.the370z.com/members/schru...4-imag0011.jpg

4 - pry the fender liner out to get access to the back of the headlight

http://www.the370z.com/members/schru...2-imag0009.jpg

5 - twist the headlight bulb cover counter-clockwise a quarter turn then remove (big gray thing in this pic)

http://www.the370z.com/members/schru...9-imag0006.jpg

http://www.the370z.com/members/schru...0-imag0007.jpg

6 - remove the rectangular metal electrical connector by turning counter-clockwise a quarter turn

http://www.the370z.com/members/schru...1-imag0008.jpg

7 - from here it's just like any other bulb replacement, there's a spring clip that you release then the bulb comes right out. put in the new one and reassemble everything in the reverse order from above.

After installing these bulbs and driving around tonight the 6000k looks really good. I'm happy with the results.

I snapped these with my phone last night - they are not the best pics but give you an idea about the color temp and brightness, which I am happy with both...

If you want I can take some night shots with the better camera, just LMK what you're looking for.

As for the review on the bulbs, so far so good. They do take a minute or two to warm up to full brightness, not a big deal but noticeable. I never noticed the stock bulbs warming up tho. I just could't swing $150+ for a pair of bulbs right now since I could get some for $70+, if these die or have any problems down the road I'll get the more expensive bulbs but for now they seem fine.

NewYorkJon34 05-16-2010 01:23 PM

If you were to buy a better bulb, which one would you buy? Im looking for a plug & play bulb, 6k lights, links?

schrute 05-16-2010 01:30 PM

You can probably find these cheaper elsewhere but these Philips bulbs are a step up from what I got.

theDreamer 05-16-2010 01:38 PM

Car is looking great Schrute, but remember:
Bears beat Battlestar Galactica.

schrute 05-16-2010 02:04 PM

...what is going on? What are you doing? Well, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I thank you. :D:D:D

370Z JT 05-16-2010 03:11 PM

Hey Schrute....Is the landing strip LEDs visible at night when the headlights are on? Your one photo suggests not.

schrute 05-16-2010 03:44 PM

Yeah they are. That really is an awful pic (cell phone). I'll get a better one at night with the good camera.

^true, amazon is overpriced on those. ebay has them for $150.

chuckd05 05-19-2010 12:26 AM

Did you ever take a Db reading from inside the cabin after installing the product you used ?

darbyt 05-19-2010 02:01 PM

Hey Schrute great looking car. I just have one question. How were you able to get the Garmin mounting disk to stick to your dash? I can't seem to make it work! I must be a dumb*** but I am stuck. Any help is appreciated!

darbyt 05-19-2010 10:42 PM

Nevermind! Put my brain into overdrive and figured it out! Thanks anyway!

Not yet but I'm going to work on installing the second skin product again tonight. I've only had a couple hours here and there to do it lately. I'll have an update soon..

Glad you got it figured out!

oo7mech 05-22-2010 02:03 AM

Update on the Db readings?

I haven't read your whole journal yet. But your car looks awesome. I'm working on tinting my rear tail lights at the moment using Lamin-x film. Not working out soo good. [searching thread for your tail light tint]

KingZee 05-29-2010 08:23 PM

Schrute, I commend you on your journal and direction you provide. I just read through the whole thing and got a lot of knowledge out of it.

Looking forward to seeing how the Second Skin products work out.

schrute 05-30-2010 01:31 AM

Thanks guys. I had some personal stuff come up lately and the Z had to take a back seat to some other stuff. I really want to get the second skin product finished soon, having all the plastic out of the back makes it really loud. Can't wait to get it done and I hope to finish up soon. Right now I'm in the middle of a move so it might be a week or two. :shakes head:

I used some anti-seize on the mating surfaces so hopefully the wheels come off easier next time.

They are Type 2 spacers - 25mm front, 20mm rear.

IS having your tail light's tinted still illegal? sorry random question? lol

Hey guys,

Haven't been on here for a while. On Memorial Day I was fishing with a couple friends and we had a boating accident and my good friend Tyler drowned. He's in a couple pics on this thread helping me work on my car. I miss my buddy every day and posting on internet forums took a back seat to a bunch of other stuff for a while.

I've been through some other life changes over the past few months but through it all I still have my Z and still enjoy driving it. I'm looking forward to spring when I can pick up where I left off.

I'm usually not one to preach but in memory of my friend I'll just share a couple of the lessons I've learned through all of this. Wear life jackets when you're boating, and be careful mixing alcohol and activities on the water. Live life to the fullest every day and let your family and friends know how you feel about them often.

Jeff, my condolences go out to you and the families affected by this.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Back to the car, she got a long overdue oil change (9200 miles since the last change). I feel good that I was running high end Redline Oil but I don't think I'll make it a habit to wait that long. Somewhere near the end of that 9200 miles I added a quart when the level looked low. Forgot to get a sample for analysis, maybe next time.

I used a local DIY shop and their Hi-Lift 4-post Lift to make the job a lot easier, only $18/hr but I had a 50% off coupon, so $9. Pretty neat place. www.wrench-it.com (Salt Lake City)

Date: 1/30/11
Mileage: 25846
Maintenance Performed: Oil Changed, Oil Filter Replaced
Parts Used: Redline 5W30-6qts, $58.20, Purolator Pure One Oil Filter #PL14610, $6.49, Drain Bolt Washer Replaced, Nissan OEM 11026-01M02 $0.66, 1 hour lift time $9 - Total $74.35

Summer Tires/Rims back on the car since Saturday. Balance, Mount, Reprogram TPMS - No charge at Les Schwab since I bought the tires there. Good guys. Feels good to have the summer set back on the car!

These warnings come up a lot on radio stations here in Southern California. In fact, there is a law in California where the owner of the boat is responsible for such incidents like your friend.
