JayTirbhaw's boosted Nismo 370z build
Well I figured it is about time I made a build thread.
A little background: Been in the "Z scene" since 2008. Was always a fan of the 300 growing up as a kid; when the 350z debuted I became obsessed. After working my butt off during high school, got my first Z after graduation, a 2008 Nogaro red 5AT enthusiast. Had lot's of fun with it, learned a lot about how the VQ cars run, made some great friends, and overall had some great experiences. To me it was the best looking Z in town and always caught a lot of attention. pics coming soon After graduating college I decided I wanted something that was a little bit more fun to drive ( got tired of the automatic), and began looking for a new car; some months later I found myself in my new 2014 Magnetic black Nismo 370z. Been lurking on these forums since 2009, haven't really posted until I actually owned my new car. She's been great so far, left her pretty stock for the past few months and started purchasing parts for a quality N/A build... but once again, after hanging around a lot of high horsepower cars ( coming from a family of german loving gear heads ) and losing to M's and AMGs one too many times, I again found myself wanting more. At first I begun to explore the possibility of a GTR. Test drove a few, drove my friend's black edition around for a day and enjoyed it. GTRs certainly deserve the name Godzilla, but it was just not as "fun" to drive as a Z, if that makes sense. There was just something about the Z that made it seem almost impossible for me to not be in one !! So I ruled out the GTR and began researching Forced Induction options. I've always wanted to boost my car since I had the 350, and in college hung around with a lot of boosted Z's that came out of forged performance and z1 motorsports in the Atlanta area. I collected knowledge, did my research, set a budget, talked to vendors and waited patiently... Fast Forward to the current day ! Finally pulled the trigger on getting my build going. My car is awaiting transportation to Tampa FL, where VORTEX (Formally VSR) Motorsports will be installing their single turbo kit. Will update with specifics as time goes on. Excited to finally be joining the boosted z club !! Sorry for the lame pics, will be adding more REALLY soon ! If you can ditch the ProSport Boost Controller for something better, HKS/Greddy etc. They use them because they are local.

Trailer picked up the nismo yesterday, should be arriving in tampa today. BTW - Here's a few pics of my old z, miss it !
|
Bumping this, my car should be done at the end of next week and back from Vortex. I have quite an interesting review to give, So stay tuned.
|
So what is the review?? Waiting to hear...
|
Def interested in your build man as I also have a MB 14 Nismo. and I also had a red 350z lol.

Frustratingly my car still isn't done yet. I've been told “next week” a few times but that hasn't happened. The review will be comprehensive, won't leave any details out, good and bad.
It's waiting for a z1 clutch kit to arrive, and from what I was told last week a few more pipes need to be fab'd. I've been about as patient and understanding as I can be, but I am pretty annoyed as I had to miss zdayz and a few other events. |
Update 6/26/15 -at long last, after 4 months and after a bunch of hurdles and challenges, my car is finally done. The transport truck is picking it up from the shop tomorrow to bring it to it's new home in NYC !!
I am so excited, can't wait to get behind the wheel after so many weeks. Will give you guys a full run down after she arrives, but here's a dyno sheet of one of the first runs during tuning, @ 10 psi ... 512 WHP , 430 lbs torque not the final run or numbers, but still pretty nice look at the power band , sorry for the huge pic Going to have fun with it as is for a while, but planning on getting the car retuned locally ( Can't stand being away from it any longer ) and shooting for around 600 whp on the built block. We'll see !! https://www.dropbox.com/s/plx4xhi0r3...ized.jpg?raw=1 |
A quick cell phone pic from the shop this past weekend !! I really need to get better pictures.

Much more z friendly roads down south ! |
So update - after a small issue - http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...t-start-2.html
Car is pulling hard ! My CEL light is on but i'm fairly certain its something minor, getting it looked over on saturday at RAD, also adjusting the ride height because it's just to low to ride around the way it is right now. |
|
Just a quick update on the Z - Had a few issues, a boost leak and my tranny was acting up but those things are being addressed by RAD. Car is running great otherwise, Only have 200 miles on the built motor so trying to put some more on it before I get a retune, latest numbers are still around 550 whp.
|
Picking her up from RAD tomorrow ! Needs a good wash https://www.dropbox.com/s/qgr41xszse...79_o.jpg?raw=1

For anyone following the build, here's a list of issues I had with the car when I got it back ...
1. Hose on fuel pump assembly was loose fixed with some help from the forum and phunk 2. Had big boost leaks on a flex pipe and downpipe flange near the wastegate and on my exhaust. This was caused by the dickheads that transported the car to NYC riding it over a big *** bump in the road, flexing the pipe and basically ripping through the flex pipe. Fixed by RAD, had to get new pipe built and welded. 3. Hard time shifting into 1st, 2nd, and R. Clutch pedal needed readjustment and fluid needed to be bled and flushed, fixed by RAD. 4. Almost forgot this one ... toe bolts were installed incorrectly, also fixed by RAD What's left to fix - Just a few nicks and scratches. Car came off the transport truck with three dents that it didnt have before and a bunch of scratches. Really annoyed at that, been fighting with the transport company for weeks. Do not use "bright auto transport inc." from NY Just want to send a shoutout to everyone that helped out on the forum. As far as Vortex goes, They've been helpful in resolving the issues I've had with the car, sending me extra parts and such quickly. The motor is strong, the kit is well put together. Can't say I'm happy with all the **** I had to correct but they did what they could to make it right. The car is running strong. How would I rate the kit ? 10/10 for performance. The car pulls like a beast. And I can't wait to see how insane it is after the motor is broken in. Vortex customer service - I'd rate this a 7.5/10. Communication wasn't as it should be. Bobby Ralston, who is no longer working with Vortex (1/10) was involved earlier on, I didn't have good experiences with him. Called all the time before i gave my deposit, after that i could barely get through to him. Promised me a finished car in March/April .... thats about 4-5 months late? I do however give Bob Brooks A LOT of credit in trying to fix Ralston's mistakes. Where they fall a little short is the fact that I had to spend a bunch of money to fix problems I didn't have before my car was delivered to them. They did try though, Bob is a good guy. I recommend them and this kit for anyone that is local to FL. I just got tired of waiting and having to go to them, and being all the way up in New York didn't make it easy. The Vortech techs - 10/10 , great guys with some superb skills. Bright auto transport and their broker "Tropical" Transport in FL - .5/10. .5 for a single email i got. otherwise No good. The car is now being maintained by RAD, and so far those guys have been 10/10. I'll give a more in depth review of the performance of the kit after the break in is over. Huge shoutout to RAD for getting me back on the road. Now in the process of putting 1000 miles on the built motor so i could turn up the boost and hit my first goal of 600 whp. |
Congrats man. Seemed like a long journey but glad its all done.

awesome build dude!!!

Nice to see another VSR single out there. When did you first send the car to FL? Looks like we have the same intercooler and intake pipe set up. The later models/kits have what looks to be a better fitting set up....shorter/longer intercooler letting the air filter get more behind the bumper and allowing a bigger filter I think.
