There's a lot that goes into shopping for the bike. Regardless, don't sweat the details about learning to ride. It's not that bad. Ani's bike is probably great for you to learn on too. But you'll never know if you don't just go and get your damn permit and get it over with.

I'm sure there is and I'm not denying it's important to find the Right one, not one that looks pretty. But bikes just aren't for me. I like having metal between me and the pavement. :ugh2:

I said the same things.

I'd never go back now, though.

So if/when you sell your Vulcan, where will the funds go to? Into new gear/bike stuff, car stuff, or wedding fund?

Giving $1000 to her, no matter what I sell it for. Remaining money goes towards my credit card.

That's cool that she's taken such an interest in it.

Conversely, how are your classes going, or are you not taking summer classes?

Ah that sucks. I was hoping it would be closer to you.

While we joke that it was a bet that if I went back to college, she'd get her motorcycle license (I signed up the very next day), I was never going to actually force her to live up to her end if she didn't want to. But, she's doing it for me, and herself, so I'm proud of her.

I'm in summer classes. Made the deans list last semester with a perfect 4.0. Taking Geology and Intro to Prof. Writing right now. Geology is actually fairly interesting...

Of course it is. :icon17:

It was interesting because I would have thought the gearing would have been RN12345 just like normal cars, but its instead 1N2345 with R in there somewhere?

So you have to pull the pedal up with different forces to engage neutral or 2nd gear... Lame. :p

Neutral becomes pretty easy over time, it's just a half-click.

There's no reverse on a bike. No need :p

I highly recommend the motorcycle class. It takes a weekend and you're good to go, plus you don't need your own bike. If you hate riding, you're out $100.

It's no big deal really. Is the meet on a Sat/Sun or during the week? I drive hours to make it to the Columbia/Fairfax meets and other places... I'm used to putting miles on my car, that's what I bought it for.

Yeah I remember you saying that. I figured you would do exactly that lol

 Cool. I made Deans list my first semester as well. Finishing Planetary Astronomy Thursday, then Starting Written Business Communication next Tues. Also have Business Law on Mondays. But all that will change when I transfer to McDaniel in the fall.

Of course, if I were interested in riding, I'd for sure take the class, and just use one of theirs.

But I'm not interested in riding.

Fair enough.

I like to think of the class like going go-karting. It's cheap and fun and gives you a chance to try something out.

I agree, they look very informative and educational. But the safety risks of what could happen if you come off the bike far outweigh the pros in my mind. I like the feel of the body of a car around me.

Low-speed crashes are hardly terrible, and that's about the only thing you'll run into when taking the basic rider course.
