Directions

Location:
Occoquan Regional Park‎
Lorton, Virginia
(703) 690-2121

From I-95: Take the exit for 123 North (160 if headed on 95-South, 160B if headed on 95-North). Merge onto 123 North (2 right lanes) and continue towards Occoquan. Cross the bridge and make a right at the light at the top of the hill into Occoquan Regional Park.

Reference the map below to find our gazebo:

There is a small parking lot (approximately 20-25 spaces) all the way at the end of the park road. It's the closest lot to the Gazebo. If this lot is full, there will be a gate that is closed right by the overflow lot I have referenced in the map. If you have to park there you can follow the path that goes by the baseball fields and makes its way to the Gazebo.

In for epic awesomeness

As far as dates go, we can do sometime in July since we already have a cruise planned for June. Last year's was in July too.

I'd prefer somewhere in MD, but only because it's closer to me :p

I like the crabfest idea - which would mean the shore...

i also like the big park in Marshall, VA where we stopped at the end of the Tax Rebellion Cruise - lots of pavillions etc - plus good cruising roads.

The park we stopped at during the GTR cruise was also nice up outside of Frederick. (we'd need to pick better non-dirt roads)

Jays beach house... :stirthepot:

Crabfest is cool, but that doesn't necessary mean the shore. I can get a bushel of crabs and bring them anywhere.

Timing's going to be important, because I'm traveling at the end of July and beginning of August.

Perhaps it should be Virginia, since we did Sandy Point last year?

Also, goes without saying, anywhere we choose will have to have a large parking lot.

MD would be ok, but we were in MD last year. Maybe it's time for a VA BBQ. :p

Though I was thinking if we do it in MD again, somewhere EAST of the bridge would be nice. If we can find a spot on the water that is not Sandy Point state park it might be awesome.

FPenvy 06-06-2012 02:04 PM

either location of MD or VA is fine with me since i'm coming from pittsburgh anyways if i am free when you decide to do it.

crabfest and just regular picnic food sounds good as well

i'll be down in VA Beach (Sandbridge) august 3rd-11th i believe for vacation just fyi

b1adesofcha0s 06-06-2012 02:04 PM

Might as well alternate the BBQ locations like we do with the meets. The park where we stopped at the GT-R cruise in Frederick would be great too since it has a grill and a large covered area with plenty of seating.

VA parks are very nice. We can rent shelters/gazebos that have grills and plenty of tables. Rentals are around $150/day, though, so we'd have to split the cost.

Fountainhead Regional Park and Occoquan Regional Park are both very nice.

If we get as many people as last year, it probably won't end up costing that much per person.

It wouldn't cost much at all. The only problem I see is that it seems like all of these parks prohibit alcohol.

Cool, we could do a Virginia Park. I might even smuggle MD crabs across the border.
