But good start - thanks.

May I ask why you need a physical safety? The Glocks are very safe with a round chambered so long as they are kept in a holster covering the trigger guard. They cannot fire unless you willingly pull the trigger.

I carry my G26 and/or G19 and they are chambered 24/7.

If you absolutely MUST have a physical safety, take a look at the Ruger SR40C. I think the S&W M&P 40C also has a manual thumb safety.

The only real requirement I have is I want a physical safety.
It can be a compact or a sub-compact.
Oh, and I shoot 40's.
Comments?

More than a few 1911 manufactures make compact 1911s in 40.
Can't think of a specific make/model of the top of my head.

He actually has to try very hard to induce it because he naturally fires with a firm grip. He brings up a good point in that when you are purchasing a handgun to know what you want it for. If for just target shooting then not necessarily an issue unless you can't correct your firing technique or if you are a petite female and just can't get the grip necessary. However, if purchasing for home defense or concealed carry and you are injured, that should make you pause in deciding which gun to purchase. That all goes back to your sound recommendation to fire the gun first before purchasing in order to make sure.

:iagree:

the hard part is finding one to shoot before you buy it...
the ranges typically only have a few selections to rent - as i learned when hunting for my 1911...

Z Stig 06-29-2013 06:25 AM

Springfield makes the EMP in .40. They are not cheap (over 1k new). They shoot great though. I had a version in 9mm, but the weight of it was more than I liked for concealed carry. Good luck finding what you want.

eastwest2300 06-29-2013 06:51 AM

I have the Glock 26 & 27, never had an accidental discharge (thank goodness) carrying them concealed.. I'm a Glock fan though.

I admit that I am a control freak and I just want that "extra" level of safety. No other reason.
I've been looking at the M&P, but wanted some other thoughts before I did anything; so thank you very much for the Ruger suggestion, that looks pretty nice.

:iagree: I have a Springfield EMP.40 for carry.
It's not THAT small and it's heavy. For ME being a big guy, it fits in my jean pocket.

Also the G27 has THE WORST recoil out of any handgun I have owned, even/especially with the extended finger mag.
(I understand that if, god forbid, you had to USE it, that it wouldn't matter, BUT 99.99999999% of your shooting will be at the range, and shooting the 27 isn't pleasant to say the least)

ZCarMan 06-29-2013 11:31 AM

Smith and Wesson M&P 40 Shield has a physical manual safety.

SMITH AND WESSON MP40 SHIELD 40SW @ Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore:

There are several video reviews on Youtube as well for it.

Steve - thanks again for the suggestion of the Ruger SR40c. In fact, I pulled the trigger (:roflpuke2:) and got one this morning.
Celebrate the Fourth of July, absolutely; but who needs fireworks!?!?!

If anyone is in the market for a good entry level AKM variant with modern U.S. furniture, these Romanian M10-762s are going for $594.99 w/free shipping. They were even cheaper over a year ago when they first became available.

Found a neat little place out in Linden VA - it has a live fire range and a kick a$$ simulator with all kinds of training and situation video.

| Virginia Pistol-Firearm Sales and Quality handgun Training For Less! Welcome! |

The video has guns that have been converted to use clips with compressed air in them - this provides a recoil like the real thing. You shoot indoors at a large video screen which can show static targets, moving targets, timed drills, and many excellent LEO type training scenarios.

I did 2 - one with a bad guy coming into the house through a window (once armed and once unarmed), and also responding to an office park hostage situation where the bad guy had a worker held at gunpoint in a back room...

the video changes base on your actions.. really cool.

eastwest2300 07-15-2013 08:10 AM

I've seen things like this, it is pretty cool.
