I found a semi-auto at a local gun store for around $7k. But yes, you are right, I wanted the bolt action and it was around $5,200. I was like, score! And then I walked into Finks down in Raleigh while visiting family. Oops. But I got a sweet watch! :happydance: Hasn't won me any ladies yet, though. :shakes head: Shoulda bought the .50. :owned:

I personally don't like sights that attract the eye (such at FO) for personal carry as I do open carry often. I also find they are distracting to my eye. I always focus on the sight and say "oh pretty!" when I should be looking at my target.

I think it is important to be comfortable with whatever you decide to have on your equipment. Especially on your choice of carry! I like the combination of tritium and FO myself. After all, you should focus on the front sight and the ease of that with the combination works for me.

I'll be up for a range trip after ZDayZ if anyone is interested in comparing equipment (no, not like that Steve, pants and tights stay on!) to see what they prefer. Could be a fun outing!

Tigger, thanks for the laugh this early in the morning. I just had this image of standing in a lane and the shooter next to me pausing and and saying "oh pretty!" before each shot. :roflpuke2:

I will take charge and arrange a range trip in June or July. (Dee, since you gave scheduling it a  you'd better be there!) I think I'll even require that if you have a Nissan, you HAVE to arrive in that. In other words, no VTAK/VTEK. :rofl2:

Seriously though, I would like to arrange for the event in June or July, but I won't start the official organizational process of the event until after I get back from ZDayZ. Please feel free to throw a couple of dates that are preferred. I plan on making it in June, as that works better for me than July. I would still like for the event to be well attended. Be advised that it will be held in Ashburn and most likely first thing in the morning; around 8:30 should ensure the availability of enough lanes for us to have shooting time at the same time and hopefully in adjacent lanes.

We could rent the set of 10 lanes, but that would cost over $300 (maybe $350). I believe that covers: 1) use of the 10 lanes for an hour, 2) a dedicated Range Safety Officer, and 3) a selection of retal guns available for use, we would just need to buy their ammunition for use in their guns. I think if we get there early enough, we can save some money by renting individual lanes with multiple shooters on each on (up to three per lane).

I'll have to judge interest once I announce the details of the event. Feel free to PM me dates that work for June. You can reply on this page if you are tentative for a June range event, so others can also get a guage as to interest.

I'm definitely interested. However, I'll be unable to attend on the weekend of the 8th of June if that were the date due to some personal matters taking precedent. Patricia would likely come as well.

Tigger 05-09-2013 11:48 AM

Yeah. not on the 8th. Tough Mudder goin' down!! Where the hell is Ashburn? Google ftw I suppose. For a shoot meet I'll drive 4 hours. That gets me to DC area. The following weekend or 21st/22nd. Got a friend coming into town for Tosh. maybe she'll wanna go shooting too. :)

Ashburn is near Dulles Airport about 20 miles NW of Washington DC. The more the merrier! I'll have my KSG 12 ga. there as well as some other items of interest.

Here's a pic I found with the double-strapped mags I mentioned in an earlier post. This isn't a typical magpul plastic part. Once these are strapped together the only flex you get is from the body of the mags themselves. Crazy strong if you install it right. But it is a one time deal. If you remove it you need a new one to replace it do to having to cut and burn the nylon straps.
