i would just bring her a rose and a thank you card. nothing spectacular.

if you really feel thankful, then prove to her son with your willingness to work so that you can backup what the lady said for you. that would be the biggest thank you.

I like it. Personal without being too familiar. If nothing else, it will give you time to think of something better (like a nice dinner, mentioned above).

Or just ask her. Something along the lines of: "I really appreciate what you did and would like to do something nice for you. What do you enjoy that you haven't done in a while?"
