Yeah I use a lot of toothpicks for stuff like that.
The paint you have in your touch-up bottle is lacquer. Probably acrylic lacquer.
I have heard that the Dr. Colorchip works well for lots of small chips - at least to get them all the same color and not show the black bumper cover underneath and stuff. Never tried it myself, though.
