What sickness were you and he tried to cure? And you actually saw him drank it or just read in a magazine?

XiP 11-14-2013 04:16 AM

No reason I just thought it would make me healthier, I read about it online

blackcherry20 11-14-2013 04:59 AM

You can find those in a lot of the Vietnamese dishes. As long as it's fully cooked it's fine to consume, be sure to chew really well because like you said it's like eating rubber bands.

Curdled pork blood anyone?

I won't eat anything that looks like a bug.

Hell, I don't even eat cheese (a few exceptions).

Clam chowder is probably the grossest thing I've tried. Anything Asian is usually pretty gross too (food, nothing against their people!).

kfull 11-14-2013 03:46 PM

Lolly pops with crickets and mealworms in them, cows stomach, cold chicken feet, frog legs. All voluntarily

That looks more like black pudding than intestine. Keep in mind intestine is tubular.

They had "testicles" on the menu at a fancy-schmancy restaurant I was recently in in Buenos Aires.

I passed.

Tempestz 11-14-2013 04:27 PM

^^^You made the right choice... They are by no means appetizing

Chef kid 11-14-2013 04:37 PM

Does this include shrimp and crawfish?

That covers a lot of different cuisines. None of them work for you?

Honestly, for me, it's not even the "gross" factor... it just feels wrong.

I'll eat a heart, brains, kidneys, etc, but not another male creature's castrated testicles :icon14:

They serve it here in the US. They are called Rocky Mountain Oysters (bull's oysters). Harris Ranch has it on their menu

I'll only eat shrimp if it's fried.

And yes, none if them work. Everything I've tried is either way too god damn salty or sweet. I hate sweet foods the most of anything.

I tried chicken feet while on a business trip to China some years ago, and it took everything I had not to upchuck in front of my dinner mates. It was the foulest (pun intended) thing that I ever ate.

H2O_Doc 11-14-2013 08:10 PM

My wife is Peruvian and has had a gnosh on a cuy or two. You probably know those better as Guinea Pigs:

Saw Bizarre Foods a few years ago and he had features Los Angeles. My sons followed his trail and we went to Typhoon restaurant in Santa Monica (right at the airport). This place is cool 'cause you get to see planes land, park, see the pilots get in the restaurant, eat, and then take off again. Anyway, we ate the following:

Scorpions shrimp toast. Tasted like earthy shrimp on a toast.
Crickets stir-fried tastes like mild corn
Sea worms crispy fried. No longer on the menu
Fried Ants on a bed of shoe string potatoes - you gotta eat a bunch of these to fill you up.
Frog legs - not even gross. this like at the level California roll I you are eating sushi. Again how many frogs do you have to eat to fill you up.

Not my thing but they were so into it. Great father and sons bonding moment.

This is not gross if you're going with zbrah's example. It is certainly bizarre and adventurous.

axmea? 11-14-2013 11:54 PM

Oh yes, there's something called fish balls. Let's leave it at that.

axmea? 11-15-2013 12:02 AM

Oh yes here's another one. Went to Spain and saw a bullfight. Went to this famous restaurant underneath and while waiting for our order this plate passes by and had this great aroma. We asked and ordered it but was turned down because we had to order ahead. I asked what was that and the waiter said "bulls balls". I said ok sir put me in for the Thursday schedule. He took my name and I signed off on it. Thursday comes I did not even watch the fight and went straight downstairs had a glass of Spanish wine anticipating a great meal. The plate arrives the aroma was intoxicating. I looked and took the cover off only to find two tiny pieces. I called the waiter and said "I ordered bulls balls what is this?". The waiter said "sorry senior, sometime de bull wins"

Keep them away from my in-laws.

TXSpeedDemon 11-15-2013 10:16 AM

Dog - it wasn't really gross, in fact the meat was ok, but really fatty. But I had a really hard time eating it being a dog lover. but I didn't want to insult my new in-laws :(

One meal was a combination stew of pig brains, stomach, intestines, heart, tongue and snout. All items were also served individually. The intestines were the worst for me. SO HARD to chew. But really it was all quite bad. I had a lot of rice that meal.

Also fried chicken feet. not too bad but not much to chew on but bone and tendon.

axmea? 11-15-2013 11:14 PM

From gross to really bizarre. Not sure about certain creatures like our four legged friends......ruff ruff

XiP 12-02-2013 08:42 PM

just ate a raw egg
tasted quite nasty

Gadgetech 12-02-2013 08:49 PM

Head cheese - all the head parts from a butchered pig rolled into a greyish, multi-colored dense meat. Consistency somewhere between canned tuna and spam.

Reviving this. Deep fried Spam with mayo on toasted bun. Gross for some but when I was a kid, I liked it. Now that I'm grown up, not anymore.

That's deep fried 'Murican Patriotism right there.

Kaminari Kuro 06-05-2014 03:07 AM

Shrimp. But only because I'm deathly allergic, and eating even one makes me projectile vomit until I reduced to dry heaving for a day or two. :barf:

YzGyz 06-05-2014 05:01 PM

That chrispy looking guinea pig looks amazing! I would try a nice big piece of that.
