This forum > other forums

I bought a DD and went to their forum which shall remain nameless for now. I love the car but the members of the forum are snotty stuck up jerks. They wont even reply to simple questions about how to turn something off or on when you cant find it in the manual. If they do reply they make some crap remark about how its been previously addressed despite not being able to search out the thread. Even if something about the car sucks (the nav) they attack you for daring to say it has flaws and how can you work around them. Very odd forum indeed.

on the other hand

This forum freakin rocks. Despite some of you being sarcastic in the best possible way and breaking balls sometimes...we are all very helpful to one another. Even when a member gets scammed we pull together and dominate. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who makes this forum/community a better place to kill time surfing the web and talking about our cars, and also thanks to AK for keeping this thing up and running smoothly.

Cheers!

Did you go and join NASIOC? :rofl2:

Amj2020 08-15-2013 01:49 PM

Chuck, all I can is wow...I wish I knew sooner.

Chuck33079 08-15-2013 01:51 PM

I figured out by the "snotty, stuck up jerks". It's gotten pretty bad. I joined on 2001 when I bought my WRX, and it was a lot like here. It's now some unholy abomination of Hondatech and Reddit.

Jasonle 08-15-2013 01:54 PM

The supra forum is rough. I agree this forum is the best one I ever been on

Chuck33079 08-15-2013 01:54 PM

It could be worse than NASIOC. At least there is a lot of good technical info there if you dig for it. They have some guys that really know their ****. The IS300 forum is far worse. I'm on there for info about the IS I'm turning into a track car, and it's all hellaflushed stanced ricers who just want to lower the car until the car high centers on a speed bump or the stretched tires debead at freeway speeds.

:icon17: You're a bigger man than me! I heard the Jeep and Toyota forums can be quite hostile.

The veterans and mods on this forum contribute meaningfully, without rude lead-ins.

I think what makes this forum great is threads (mostly) go without someone saying, "...I think people whom do _____ or purchase _____ are idiots."
I'm pretty sure low-quality things like that are what make people not want to post or be a part of forums at all. Of course when that does happen here, I just think of how nice it is to coexist, live and let others live. Ahhh, maturity

You'll like this forum until Frost shows up in your thread...

Maybe it has to do with the higher average age of 370Z owners. I did say average.

I was on celica.org for over 10 years, and while I met a lot of great people in my area through that forum, it was mostly childish dribble, a lot of politics and a lot of sucking up to the owner of the forum (if you wanted to be in the "in" crowd). Bluebatmobile can probably chime in on that (he was one of the "in" guys).

Chuck33079 08-15-2013 02:43 PM

It's either the age or the cost of the car. When they're new and expensive, you tend to get older, more rational people on the forum. By the time the car costs $8k and is on its third owner, the forum goes to hell.

older car guys can be real snoots, tho. There's a forum I'm on where the avg age is higher, and it's not as friendly

kenchan 08-15-2013 02:45 PM

also the average income as well. im definitely not rich, but not poor either so it makes it a more forgiving atmosphere.

you go to some cheap car forum, they all talk about the shittiest of shitt mods and are like :woot: homedepot garden trim, here we come! let's all get the fake parts. can't afford fake parts, let's make everything out of balsa wood.

Washer mod?

6spd 08-15-2013 02:49 PM

I remember looking at the Mercedes forum because I briefly thought about getting the new one (don't wanna name the forum). Wow, totally different kind of people. Not my kind of people. That's why this forum is great, but even it has it's share of know-it-alls.

But if you go to the richie rich forums, they're all "polishin' my yacht this weekend" and "why the poor should suffer" and such.

H2O_Doc 08-15-2013 02:52 PM

I'm on a Jeep and Toyota forum and a general off-roading forum; this 370Z forum is my favorite. The off-roading fora have way too many post-apocalyptic antigovernment bigoted gun- nutty tinfoil hatted survivalist types (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Folks around here are pretty nice and there are enough urber-nerds here that I can feel relative well adjusted, having recently moved out of mom's basement and having had sex at least once (with a partner).

I belong to the Santa Fe and the Honda ST1300 forums (yes, I've been cheating on you all), and I must say that they are both more like this one. Not to many "snooties" and now that I think about it, most of the members of the other two forums are a little bit more "mature" as well. They also seem willing to help and assist in any way that they can.

Like the old saying goes, "I may get my appetite somewhere else, but I always come home to eat."

I do agree however that this is the most bestest forum on the interweb :woot: .

ShutokuZ 08-15-2013 03:14 PM

OP, I feel the same way about most BMW forums, although there is one that I have been on since 2001 and I love it there. This forum however, has to be about one of the best I have been on so far......

kenchan 08-15-2013 03:18 PM

one thing to note is do your research first, and dont post some lazy 'how do you do this?' without even running a search. most of the questions newbs have were already answered like 100x.

or starting just plain out dumbarse meaningless threads. :shakes head:

thatwillgetareplylikethis. continueandyougettossedintotheiggylist.

That is actually the best advice for anyone joining any new forum. That, and do not needlessly attack other members.

See i knew that from being on here, did my due diligence and then *crickets* or...dood we covered that like three weeks ago go away...

...and dont get all personally hurt when someone says the car can improve in some way especially with a third party nav system which blows chunks.

This forum is great because it has a great balance of characters. You can go from Kenchan to WOW to AK and just get so many points of view on just one simple topic!

I finally got a red car and its true, birds crap all over red cars.

kenchan 08-15-2013 03:30 PM

 we have DIY's in the detailing section how to kill birds. oh wait, how to take care bird crappage. :D

Amj2020 08-15-2013 03:31 PM

Leuz 08-15-2013 03:37 PM
