Sounds like a good weekend. Over here we've got a pork tenderloin going in the smoker tomorrow, ribs and chicken Saturday and Sunday's meat is still undecided. We'll see what the meat market has that looks good. It's a good weekend when the smoker is running the whole time.

100% agree! I had ribs last night at work. I do have a pork tenderloin in the freezer too, I think you twisted my arm to get that out too for Sunday. I made one about a month ago and I got it almost up to temp and then wrapped it in tinfoil and let it chill on the counter for half an hour. Holy crap that thing was juicy and tender! I usually throw some baked beans in there too for about an hour.

I'm still figuring out how my new smoker cooks, so I need as much practice on it as possible. It's a great problem to have.

If I had thought about it ahead of time, I would have made sure to match up the mileages. I didn't expect to get 400 miles out of the tank though - we just happened to take the Z to San Antonio this past weekend.

The attachment is the best I could do :)

You got that right  I've been eyeballing DIY plans to make a nice big one out in the yard lol. It'll be a tough sell to the family but I think if I make some kick-a$$ foods it can be sold lol

Went bigger than I planned with this one. It could hold 15-16 racks of ribs if I ever needed to feed a small army.

Yeah, I got tired of replacing a cheapo Brinkman or Weber every three years. This should last forever.

Hey Jar, so you'd know this.. just out of curiousity.. the Z has what a 19/20 gallon gas tank, from topped off to empy on the highway, how many miles do you get on a full tank?

Im guessing 400 right?

My buddy's has been in his family for two full generations. Seriously... like 50+ years. With a little bit of TLC every few years, it still cooks amazingly even

Chuck33079 08-29-2013 08:30 AM

It's the first time I've ever had one that isn't a fight to maintain temp. Everything is taking thirty minutes less than it used to since there's no air leaks. Now I just need to get a good layer of seasoning built up inside for the real flavor.

eastwest2300 08-29-2013 08:31 AM

People dont BBQ like that around here.. (the DC area)

Who made that? Looks like a bigger size of one I gave to my cousin when she got married. I had the one that didn't have the middle grill part though.

It's such a pain in the a$$ getting the temps right on a new rig. I swore many a times when the wind would shift and make a change in the temp. The good part is the excuse to sit right next to it with a beer, a laptop/tablet, some beef jerky (cause the smell will drive you insane lol).

The tank is 19.1 US Gallons. I get 350ish miles on a tank daily driving (I was barely getting 300 before my tune). The only time I get 400+ is when I'm at highway speeds for at least half a tank. Also, that is pretty much a full tank. I fill up at least 17 gallons about 95% of the time. This morning I filled up 18.2 gallons with 412 miles on the tank.

This of course excludes spirited fun I might have occasionally ;)

It's from PitsByJJ. He used to be one of the guys who made pits for Klose. No real issues getting the temps right, I just have to build a bigger fire than I'm used to since there's so much interior volume to fill. I'll set up shop next to it with some bourbon, the whole damn humidor and be perfectly happy all weekend.

ahhhh. So its safe to say, if I were to go on a roadtrip, i'd be safe to get 400 miles on a topped off tank. Thanks bro.

It does. I reek of BBQ smoke all weekend. My GF used to complain, until she had to admit pecan smoke smells better than cigars and whiskey.

The only thing to be aware of if you let your fuel get low is fuel starvation. If you're cruising on pretty flat roads, no problem. But if you take a cloverleaf exit, but be wary of a right hand curve at speed with throttle. There are many people that suggest you fill up at 1/4 or even 1/2 tank. I fill up enough that doing it that often would waste a lot of my time. I take it down to one dot and --- Miles Remaining virtually every time. But I have learned my driving style vs the miles I can expect to get on a tank over time, and now I can predict how much gas I'm going to fill up with a few tenths of a gallon.

Also, note that my EcuTek tune seems to have really helped my gas mileage. Before the tune, I'm not sure I could have gotten 400 miles on a tank unless I was driving 100% highway at around 75 mph or less. This past tank, I was driving about on the highway for about half of it (rest was my daily commute in town). Almost one quarter of the mileage was on an 85 mph toll road, and I had cruise control set at 93 mph. The rest of the highway miles were mostly cruise control at 80 mph on the interstate.
