Jack O' Fire. Add bourbon. Imbibe soul and spirits together. Dose at need.

Everlong--Foo Fighters

Always gets me playing air guitar!

Jordo! 08-13-2015 06:58 AM

^^^ I like the Foo Fighters, but I kind of wish Cobain had punched Grohl's ticket instead of his own (or maybe Courtney's...). It would be a better world... :shakes head:

That guy is in like EVERY punk rock documentary now, generally for no clear reason.

He comes off more like a glomming groupie than a part of the phenomena of interest.

He's turned his presence up to 11 in these things... I'd prefer something around 3 :icon14:

They should talk more to Novoselic instead -- he could probably use the hugs... :icon17:

I mean, ol' Hank Rollins is also in EVERYTHING, but he has a much more legitimate reason for being interviewed.

Also (even though I will never forgive him for ruining Black Flag -- I liked his Rollins band era work better), Henry Rollins is just a super-cool dude, and generally very entertaining. Anyone caught him doing the "10 things you didn't know about..." series? Not punk rock related; History Channel pap, but fun edutainment :p

Henry Rollins is multi-talented and seems to be a very intelligent person. Recently he has been the host of a documentary show on History or Discovery (or one of those cable channels) called "10 things you don't know about". It makes me want to read one of his many books. Possibly the only "celebrity" that I would ever want to meet and have a conversation with. Maybe the other being Maynard from Tool just because he is such a freak.

On the other hand, Jello Biafra is a blooming idiot.

BlackZeda 08-13-2015 04:59 PM

These guys (and the genre) are starting to grow on me. Awesome video:

...at this very moment: "hymn to him" from johnny mac's 'apocalypse' masterpiece. 19 minutes of sumthin' most haven't heard collectively (in one muzak piece)...bass gitter/funk/lightenin' gitter/strings via london symph. orch./strings via jean-luc ponty/mikey walden on drums (chk out his fusion masterpiece "garden love light"...)

this an incredible album to wake up one's ears and (sonic) senses...

Yeah, I agree. Hank's a bright guy. I've seen all of his History channel specials -- good stuff ("You may think you know history - but I've got 10 things that say you don't" Huh? Ok, Hank...)

As to Jello, I think he's... a little paranoid maybe, but I don't think he's an idiot.

I attended a spoken word performance of his right around when the rest of his band formed the "DK Kennedys", and were allegedly suing Jello for rights to the songs... he's smart, well-spoken, but a little nutty to be sure.

He strikes me as the kind of guy who'd say something along the lines of "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you..." :icon17:

I also attended a spoken word performance, but let's just say that I came away from it with a much different opinion of him. He did leave a large impression with me; to this day I can't buy into anyone or any group's ideology as a whole and I am very skeptical about most things. So you are right, he may be a genius and I should thank him :tiphat:

If the rest of the album is as good as the three songs released my mind will explode through my eyeholes. This is as rock-and-roll and metal as you can get:

^^^ I don't know that call him a "genius" either... he has a weird "doomsday prepper" vibe about him.

He's tough to measure... I'm thinking very high functioning ASD maybe. He's a talented oddball, but waaaay out there. I think what he says and does and sings are only a tiny glimpse of his inner kookiness.

That said, I love his work with the Dead Kennedys (lukewarm on his more recent stuff, tho' -- he and East bay Ray need to make up).

I love his lyrics and his voice (harrowing vocals are kind of my thing it seems -- Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes had a voice that is the quintessence of this, at least to my ear).

Jut wondering what in particular made you think he was an idiot? I think he's more crazy than stupid, but its a fine line to be sure.

Anywho, here's what I've been listening to: Linton Kwesi Johnson

More LKJ...

Also, watched Nick Cave's new film... pretty good. I get that guy.

Anyway, new and then old:

He's getting a little "Roger Water-y" in his old age, still, really good shit.

Older song from "From Her to Eternity" below... also, check out The Birth Day Party, his first band, if you can find it...

Of course ol' "creepy drawers" had also got me listening to some Damned...

Machine Gun Etiquette is one of my favorite albums, FWIW.

Have gotten to se them twice live -- they are still awesome.

I have a very good friend who is a HUGE Damned fan, but all of their later overwrought too many ruffles and sad feelings is un-listenable to me.

How do you go from Ball Room Blitz or Rabid to Grimly Fiendish (retch) or Alone Again Or (dry heave).
