I had my left shin on the passenger seat with my knee resting on the center console by the shifter. My right knee was on the passenger floorboard. It was not the most comfortable position, but it wasn't bad. I just needed two hands for the first couple of torques of the strap wrench.

I got the shift knob in the morning while I was at work. I picked up a strap wrench on my way home for lunch and it took about 20 min. Removal took about 5 min. The rest was screwing on the new knob and unscrewing several times to get the pattern facing the correct way

ergo my reps > yours

when i make diys i never ask for reps. reason being, im here to provide my experience and expertise (if you want to call it that) for the help i got while i was a newb long time ago.

im just giving back to the internet community. :)

this is another reason why i never pay to sponsor a car forum. i hope the info and the existance of this character 'kenchan' keeps the forum entertained and informed.

I was prepared to use my sawall to get the damn thing out if I had to :icon17: Luckily, the proper tools and a little bit of elbow grease can go a long way. It wound up being a lot easier that I was expecting after reading all the horror stories on the forum.

mr.alcheng- my Z's knob was a royal pita to remove. broke two strap wrenches and i just said f- it and took my oil filter wrench and got the damn thing off. :D

i just didnt want to damage the shift linkage below, so I was definitely careful about that side of things.

I used my knee to prevent the second wrench from turning, which in turn kept the shifter itself from twisting. I actually twisted it a hair before I pulled out the second wrench :shakes head: but I got it fixed and back to normal
