Stocks Investing MONEY : Education?!! Pinkys : OTC
As a result of some talk in an unnamed thread, I thought it would be beneficial to all of us members to have a thread dedicated to Stock Talk:: whether Pinkys, OTCQX-QB, anything! I saw that there once was a thread that was geared towards investing, but it seems to me directed to more corporate news, fallouts, etc. We need NUMBERS! Who knows, some of you more advanced traders could be of a great help to all the novice ones out there. Educate others so that they too can purchase that 10k turbo kit.. 5k wheels.. 500 dollar lip.. or even what to do with that 10 cents under the seat... Wealth in People as Wealth in Knowledge |
Right now, my portfolio is plagued with the color RED! I was nailed by a pump and dump that occurred last year this time (LTUM) cutting me down 50% where it sits now.
Still I am stuck waiting for a run, but until the Lithium sector becomes hot again it is going to be a painful wait.. Anyone make any profits off of the Lithium run back in early 2011? It all started with a stock some may know (LEXG: OTCQB) that jumped from .10 to almost 11 dollars in a matter of a week. |
Tough market to play right now, I went long term with nearly everything because the market is driven by fear as much as it is by economic measures. Gold is turning into a safe haven again after it crashed out, though.
Because we could end up in the tank any time, I've generally been conservative in recent (read: one year ago) purchases, including utilities, oil, and telecommunications. |
I'm not currently invested as I don't have any spare cash to play with at the moment, but I'm a big fan of trading Ford. It has solid volume and tends to trend a lot, you'll see a lot of movements that repeat themselves.
|
I disagree not a tough market at all right now. http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z.../stockinfo.jpg
a $730.57 gain in 1 day after fee's not bad at all. |
How are you able to day trade ALL of those stocks in one day? Seems like a lot to focus on. Also, have you built a model that you use or are you just going by gut based on the news/announcements?
I was making some good money last year as I had a lot of money to play with, can't wait to get back into it. |
Yes, I am able to day trade all of those stocks in 1 day. While I'm in my economics class, we have a 1 hour lab then a 1 hour class. Starts at 7 a.m. So during the lab I do all my research with the time last night, and then I am able to pick up the stocks and buy them. If you catch me on a monday/wednesday/friday, I do not have nearly as many stocks. Maybe one to two and sometimes three. Right now I'm trying a new pattern. I might go back to my old pattern I was making way more money.
|
yeah, day trading is one thing, but it's harder balancing my work with the research i need to do to be confident in my trading.

Damn dude. Thats a nice portfolio and some big names you have under your belt. I guess its true, if you do the DD you really can make some good happen.
I myself am really into doing long term penny's. I know that sounds a bit backwards, but in the past have made some good cake off start ups. Lets hope some more soon. |
I loooove talking about investing & money.. Im gonna like this thread.
|
I checked all of monkeys stocks (from that day) and alot of them trend together. That is very good, I have 3 that like to do the same thing. They are all within the same industry so 98% of the time you can make money in all 3 at the same time.
The problem is they are very expensive so I can not buy very many at a time. Also to not be considered a day trader I only make a few plays a week. I would like to know what everyone here is using for their transactions. I currently use Scottrade. |

Long story short, be careful if day trading, I think the best way for it is if you are doing it full time and not juggling anything else. Tracking the market while presenting or im meetings and conferences at all times got old quick. Besides, the market seems way too inflated to me at this point, we are back to the 13k range but not for the reasons we should. QE3 announced, ECB bond purchase announced, meaning that for the short term there will be another bounce in market but who knows for how long. Moody's already announced they ll slash our rating further if we didn't get to an agreement. Quote:
Sorry for the book guys, just figured I would share my experience and I'm always interested in investment discussions. Back on my vacation  |

And to the guy that said it's smart to have things trend in the same direction... it's not. You have less return per unit of risk, this is a basic diversification principle. |

The main issue is that you have to be able to work your way up, but for some like myself (cough cough) it seems that working the way up to buy more of the big money stocks is taking a litttttllee longggerr than anticipatedd. Quote:

These three stocks move together, one cost X amount, the next cost a lower X amount, etc. I can make different buy in's basically on the same product. Almost like holding a stock that has dropped below your buy in and buying again at a lower rate (of course with hopes) and selling it back on an up day. This offsets a loss or if it goes above your initial buy in, money in the bank. I do a lot of things not by the book and it works for me. I also happen to work for one of the companies and known when quarters/months/days will be good. If we are making money they are making money. Diversification is best put to use with the intent of an offset to losses. I dont plan on losing nor have I yet on my favorite 3. :tiphat: To birdman sorry about your hard time. Even an inflated market has great return on day trade style plays. Don’t get me wrong I do long term on lower priced "penny" stocks, but the bulk of my profit has been in and out trades. I know I will have a lot of people disagree with me, but oh well it is what it is  |

"Diversification is best put to use with the intent of an offset to losses." - True, and it's proven to lower unsystematic risk which you are greatly exposed to. |
Technically it is not insider trading I know nothing about the true numbers until after they come out. I just go with my gut on the performance of the company. It is not illegal to invest in the company you work for
I can see we butt heads a little so I will end my discussion. |

The safe & disciplined road with stocks is far better than the erractic, high risk way over the long run. |

On a side note finally one of the stock that I have been holding GUID Guidance Software, Inc. NASDAQ: Appears to me in an upwards trend. This has been a 5 year hold beginning at 15>0 and now up to 11+. |

Too many things in this market to make it predictable. Company does well, stock goes down, company does bad stock goes up  :icon17: |
I just started trading earlier this year. It's been fun. Still trying to decide if I want to be a day trader or swing trader. I currently play mostly biotech stocks.

Hey Birdman, is that you on Stocktwits with the 370Z Nismo Avatar?

Easy to become a fully time job if one is really into it. Thats why I just stick to long term stocks and hold my positions. Sucks when you see negatives , but once it goes up, hopefully well worth it. :eekdance: |
Any of yor guys on Investorshub? I do a lot of my DD and briefing on there to see who is pumping and who is dumping. Its come to the point that I know who to follow and who to stay clear of if they are pumping a stock.
|
Not a fan of pump and dump Penny stocks. I got roped into tryin it a few times by my friend. I saw a transaction that got posted on Nasdaq.com After Hours for $700,000 , which is a lot for a penny stock. My friend didn't think much about the transaction. I smelled something fishy, so I got rid of everything first thing in the morning. Sure enough an hour later the thing dropped over 50% and kept dropping from then on out. My friend got screwed and we never went back to penny stocks after that. Be careful.

Here and there, especially on Fridays, I like to take any minor gains that I can. So $150-$300 here and there adds up over time. Like most, I will just reinvest, but it honestly is a hard thing playing without emotion and the thought that you are going to strike it big. (we all hope) :happydance: Yesterday I was up 100% within one of my pinkeys w/ news which was very uncharacteristic. I decided to keep the shares in it and see where it goes. Maybe today ill sell some off in hopes to get back in at a low on Monday. :stirthepot: |
Make use of those stop-limit orders! If you're stock is making some money, I always find it helpful to put one on or use a trailing stop to protect my profits. As the stock moves up, keep adjusting that stop order upward to lock in more.
I can't wait to have some extra cash to get back in the market. |

Need extra cash to invest?! Sell your body, its foolproof and no I don't mean organs :eekdance: Seriously, its a great way to keep on the edge of your seat, nothing better than seeing your hard earned money fluctuate. |
News just in, I think I may take a stab at FOREX with one of my buddies who is interested in investing. He has been using one of the training programs with real time numbers and has been doing pretty well. I have NO clue as to how, what is needed etc. All I know is if I link it to Etrade its a 2k minimum to open an acct. Anyone here dabble? I know I have read that some of you have? Is it a smart time to try it?

The best advice I ever got was "If it don't go up. Don't buy it."
As tough to argue, as it is to make it work. |
