Death Watch: Michael Jackson

BBC NEWS | Americas | Michael Jackson taken to hospital

Quote:

Pop star Michael Jackson has been rushed to hospital in Los Angeles after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest.

The singer was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his Bel Air home at about 1230 (1930GMT), media reports say.

Unconfirmed reports on TMZ website and in the Los Angeles Times say the 50-year-old star has died.

The paramedics performed CPR on Jackson as the ambulance took him to the UCLA medical centre, officials say.

Crowds have begun to gather outside the facility, whose emergency centre has been roped off by police.

The star was due to begin a series of comeback concerts with an appearance at London's O2 arena on 13 July.

He has a history of health problems and has not completed a concert tour in 12 years.

Jackson began his career as a child in family group The Jackson 5.

He then went on to achieve global fame as a solo artist with smash hits such as "Thriller" and "Bad".

But the singer has been dogged by controversy and money trouble in recent years, becoming a virtual recluse.
Certain news sources are confirming he's passed.

Cow you beat me by like 2 minutes. LOL!

Yeah, first there were reports of his cardiac arrest. Now reports that he is dead... It's really kind of sad.

Multiple reports: Michael Jackson has died at 50 - CNN.com

Singer Michael Jackson dead at 50 - Music- msnbc.com

Well time to bust out favorite song...

Thiller hands down.

cow 06-25-2009 05:37 PM

I was surprised no one had posted it, so I rushed to beat everyone. It's sad he passed, but... so it goes.... He kind of stole Farrah Fawcett's thunder, though.

Very true

cow 06-25-2009 05:47 PM

NPR is quoting sources saying MJ's passed. The BBC is still saying he's "gravely ill."

The other news sources are confirming his passing, but I like to check with those two sites first as they're more interested in accuracy over ratings & "OMG WE WERE THE FIRST TO REPORT SOMETHING!!"

arcticreaver 06-25-2009 05:49 PM

omg, i can't believe he is gone. damn...

cow 06-25-2009 05:49 PM

To be honest, I'm surprised he lived this long. He's looked pretty sickly in the few pictures I've seen of him the past few years.

Maybe Paul McCartney will "get back" the Beatles catalogue.

Endgame 06-25-2009 05:54 PM

Wow... I need to call my boy; he is one of Michael's first cousins..... So sad...

cow 06-25-2009 05:55 PM

I'm gonna po' out a fohty for MJ tonight.

Sad to see him go before being able to clear up a lot of the mystery surrounding him and his life in resent years. I was looking forward to his comeback tour to see if he still had it.

k20z3 06-25-2009 06:01 PM

Its true :(

Let's see, who died this June 25th?
Farrah Fawcett
Michael Jackson

Just two days ago:
Ed McMahon

Makes me curious to see who is just going to suddenly drop dead...

BanningZ 06-25-2009 06:58 PM

^Death comes in threes

frost 06-25-2009 07:31 PM

I liked jacksons music just fine, but I think his death was best. He was a tortured in his own mind, and it was probably more humane this way, much like putting down a sick animal.

CBRich 06-25-2009 08:53 PM

Sad news to hear. Especially knowing he went without first finding some sanity and enjoying life.

Tim 06-25-2009 09:01 PM

i wanted to make a thread too but i was at the gym, i went to work out and play basketball and right when i walk in the news was just like Michael Jackson has just passed away...
I was like holy sh*t, i liked his music and f all the people who called him a kid-rapist/pedophile

Steve Jobs (Apple) has been very sick lately & just received a liver transplant.

Sunsational04 06-25-2009 09:45 PM

Rip

370Z Purist 06-25-2009 09:46 PM

I guess we'll see about Steve Jobs. I personally dislike Apple, but for the guy to achieve his kind of success and just be plagued by health issues is just a damn shame.

Agreed on the latter part.

Thinking back to MJ, it's interesting to think what current music would be like had he not been popular. I can't think of an artist in my lifetime who's had a bigger influence on rock/rap/everything else. He created modern pop music.

The King of Pop. Hard to say he doesn't deserve it.

Yeah, that's some crap right there. I thought it was funny though, if you heard more about it, they had agreed to separate... and then Kate filed for divorce hours before the episode aired on the 22nd. Then she goes ahead and says, "oh I'm not ready to accept it yet, I'm going to wear my ring, love my kids, etc." If I've really heard a better example of ******** in my life, I don't remember. If you're gonna go ahead and basically do that, try to hide it from your kids (that already know), and then go ahead and just jump ahead and do whatever the hell you want... some parent. Maybe you are going in different directions, but this is bad.
She says it would have happened even if they weren't famous; I disagree. Constantly being spied upon, every small thing blown out of proportion... stardom will ruin your life. I feel bad for the kids.

I believe that McCartney already bought it back about a year ago for a fairly cheap behind-the-scene buy-back as MJ was in dire need of money about a year ago.

Z34drifty 06-26-2009 01:09 AM

The king of pop...
RIP

370Z Purist 06-26-2009 01:20 AM

On a side note, I bet most people here don't know the meaning of "RIP" without looking it up.

smurfblu13 06-26-2009 01:21 AM

sucks someone died, RIP, but people die. I don't get the hype over it.

:iagree:
RIP- May he/she rest in peace (translated of course)
-SCORE

although i dont remember the real latin stuff anymore but IP in RIP is like IN PACE

370Z Purist 06-26-2009 01:35 AM

Hahaha, you actually know the real meaning exists, at least.

If I remember correctly it's like: requiescat in pace...
which is basically the EXACT same thing. Whatever, lol.

+ 1 rep just for knowing the Latin term, hahaha

... interesting....

I wonder how much of that is supposition & conspiracy & how much, if any, may be based in truth?

nogoodname 06-26-2009 10:57 AM

autopsy due today and toxicology in 6 to 8 weeks

some ppl are making jokes like this " Michael Jackson died of food poisoning because he ate 12 year old wiener"

cow 06-26-2009 11:18 AM

I don't mind harsh jokes, but I hope some are at least clever.

Conspiracy. Noooooooo not him! It's already started! His body was flown by a Sheriff's helicopter from the hospital, to the morgue! I thought, "here we go, that will start conspiracy theories"!
I've never seen anyone in showbiz deceased, transported to the morgue in that fashion.

Sad, out of a half hour news program, the weather was about 30 seconds, Farrah Fawcett was two minutes, the rest was on him.

Yeah. Rest in peace, Michael, but man, there's far more important stuff happening in the world.

cow 06-26-2009 01:57 PM

The news said this morning that pop had died.

My thoughts are with Snap and Crackle at this difficult time.
