My streak came to an end...kinda...

Not really about a 370z, well my old Z has to do with it. Anyways, the other night i was doing duty at my unit. Had to pick the gf up and bring her home so as i was coming onto the base the MP's pulled me over. Now since im about to pull into my units parking lot im already slowing down and the MP's just got behind me from a intersection, so im thinking "wtf? im doing 30kmh in a 40 zone"

I pull into the lot and the MP's park the car right behind mine to block it. They sit there for about 5mins. I take that time to get my licence, registration and insurence out. The 2 officers come up to the window and the following conversion took place....

Officer: Good evening, do you know why i pulled you over?
Me: Nope
Officer: You have illegal tint on your front windows, you understand thats illegal and you cant have it, correct?
Me: yea i know its illegal
Officer: Then why do you have it?
Me: Well for starters, it looks nice with my car and i hate the sun beaming in on me. Also in the 4 years i've been posted here and this being my 4th vehical with 5% tint all around....i have never been pulled over.
Officer: You mean Edmonton city police or RCMP never pulled you over or gave you any trouble for it?
Me: Nope. My buddy told me when i first moved here that if I dont act like a retard on the streets, i wont be botherd by the police. And infact the last time i was pulled over by the police is when you guys (MP's) pulled me over because you claimed my 370z had a burnt out tail light, which in fact was a fog light in the rear.
Officer: fair enough, can i see your licence, insurence and registration please?

I hand him the stuff, him and his partner go to their car for 10mins and finally come back.

Officer: you know your tail lights are illegal and arent allowed being tinted correct?
Me: yes i know they are illegal, along with about 5 other things on the car
Officer: Which are?
Me: just random mods on my car for racing
Officer: you street race?
Me: Nope, i already told you, i dont act like a retard on the streets. I do time attack racing at Stratotech Raceway, Drag racing at Castrol Raceway and AutoX here at the base.
Officer: Fair enough, well im going to show you the same curtesy as the city police and not issue you a ticket or warning.
Me: Thank you
Officer: have a good evening
Me: yea i will, now i can go back to work and finish watching Boondock Saints 2.
Officer: (as he gets in his car) The first movie was better...

So after 4 years and 4 vehicals with 5% all around on all of them (except for the SRT-10, that was 5% in the front and 1% in the back) my streak came to an end of never being pulled over about my tint. However, i wasnt issued a ticket, warning or told to remove it :happydance:

So how lucky have you guys been? Also just for reference, this is what my car looks like with the windows and tail lights. I'm actually thinking about removing the tint on the tail lights...looks abit ricey

Wow! That's a pretty cool story, can't believe that.

edub370 05-26-2012 11:55 PM

hah gotta love it when u get let off. sometimes cops use stops like that to just check out a vehicle. and tbh, its piddly little stops like that that net cops a lot of DUI's and possession charges. i got pulled in a town once cuz it "sounded like i was accelerating quickly" although he said i wasnt speeding when he got behind me. no harm no foul. but, had i been drunk, or had a dead hooker in the car, then the cops stop would have been justifiable.... i know it sounds like a long drawn out excuse for cops (and i freaking hate getting pulled for no reason), but i see why they do it

yea that makes complete sence. I went through the rear gate which is usally closed at night but my unit was coming back from the field so they left it open. I could see how they thought a car coming in the rear gate, instead of the front one which is where the MP station is, is abit odd.

Personally I'd change the exhuast before I did the tail lights. The exhaust is more ricey and boy racer than the tail lights are. Go back to a dual exhaust similar to the stock style. Otherwise I think your car looks bad *** and if you continue to drive normally can probably go another 4 years with out being hassled.

hmm.. I want to tint my windows. this story is encouraging for that end.

cossie1600 05-27-2012 12:38 AM

I personally think it depends on the town and the cops. I got pulled over in my Z today in a neighboring town (famous for speedtraps) going 38 in a 35 mph. Some of them just have nothing better to do than talking on their cell phone

38 in a 35? That's ridiculous.

Op- you need a ticket for parking too deep. :icon17:

Funny story.

Cool story. I've never been lucky like that and being honest hasn't helped either. Some people got it, some people don't. Good luck keeping your streak alive

With the lack or revenue, and the overspending by the federal, state, and local governments, I am shocked that you got off without a ticket..

Now days the police have less leeway to let people off due to budgets and revenue streams..Not a quota, but they need the money..

I always believe honesty is the best policy...Police don't like liar's and they are better to you, if you are honest with them...

Your story was great.

And your car is a Beast..

The exhaust is staying. This is one of the best sounding setups for the EvoX. The exhaust is just under 10lbs, compaired to the 46lbs the stock exhaust weighs. When i first started moding the car i wanted dual tipped because i didnt want that boy racer look. I had my heart set on the ETS V2 setup which was 900+ shipping and was 5-10lbs lighter then stock. My buddy was selling his Evo and took his tomei exhaust off and said he will sell it to me for $700. The tomei brand new is $1300 + shipping. So by the time it gets to canada im looking at ~$1500....a $1500 exhaust for $700 that is less then 10lbs...ill look like a boy racer for that. I cut a total of 46lbs from the turbo back.

Funny story.

I park as close to my bike for 2 reasons. 1. Less chance of someone hitting the rear of the car and 2. If someone tries to steal my bike, chances are they will bump into the car. So they will set the bike and car alarm off.

Yes, he was giving me a tough time about a bunch of stuff like the OP.

Just recently our State Police were caught having a ticket writing contest with the other troops, all for a pizza party at the expense of regular citizen.

Gotta love Canadian cops! California cops on the other hand..
