If you can get a commision, I say go for it

Just look at the pay tables. Even if you retire as a O-3E Captain at 20 years youre making more than a 28 year E-9 RET

See there so 10 years enlisted and 10 years commissioned. You'd be all but guaranteed Capt and have a good chance at Maj in that time. And if you serve longer a great retirement with Lt Col or Col pay. You'd be set. Then in retirement you can double dip with a good job and all that military training.

I say go for it.

There are 3 rank rank structures

Enlisted
Warrant officer (air force doesn't use this)
Officer

Enlisted ranks there are 9 enlisted pay grades E-1 through E-9 and make up 80% of the military

E-1 through E-4 are junior enlisted
E-5 through E-6 are non-Commissioned Officers
E-7 through E-9 are Senior Enlisted

Warran Officers are a class of rank that fall in between enlisted and officers. There are 5 ranks of WOs. They are considered technicians and special catagories. In the Army most are required to be prior enlisted (aviators are one of the few that don't need to be prior enlisted)

Officers have 10 ranks

company grade are 2nd Lieutenant , 1st Lieutenant, Captain

Field grade ranks are
Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel

Flag Officers are
Brigadier general(1star), Major general (2 star), Lieutenant general (3 star), and general (4 star)
