both my ps3 and 360 are hard wired to my router so they have direct connections to the interwebz. i've never had a problem with streaming at all. tho, maybe twice now, the netflix app would "freeze" (spinning circle would keep going but never go away) and not load a movie after selecting play on one. exiting to the dashboard and reloading solved this every time it's happened. no biggie to me, stuff happens

Go figure.... My 360 is cabled to my router and my PS3 uses wireless, but I get better streaming performance from the PS3. It just seems like the PS3 handles blips in bandwidth better for HD streaming than the Xbox app, but your mileage may vary.

which 360 do you have? i have a 250gb slim...

how are the Netflix interfaces different between the 2? Not that it really matters since I cancelled Netflix but just curious. I thought it was good on the ps3, cant figure how you would improve it much beyond that...

a 100GB Elite I bought a couple years ago as a replacement for my launch box -- which still works (kinda).

i find that browsing and searching are both much easier and streamlined on the xbox. the ps3's netflix app looks like all the ones i've seen built in on blu ray players. the xbox one looks similar to the dashboard interface. it's a small difference but it's preferable to me

The way your queue and the suggested choices are presented is much better on the Xbox. In addition, the PS3 interface is somewhat laggy as it loads the cover art and the summaries. The xbox doesn't preload summaries so that might be why it seems more responsive.

i would think that the bandwidth switching issue would be a software issue but i'm kinda wondering if it's the older xbox's vs the newer ones.

Well in general, the PS3 does the bandwidth switching dynamically under the covers so to speak. If you have a spotty connection or your bandwidth fluctuates, the picture quality will change while the movie is playing.

On the other hand, the Xbox pauses the movie, announces there has been a bandwidth change, then reloads at the new speed. It doesn't happen much I admit, but it seems less optimal.

Wow. Thanks for all the input guys. Buying a PS3 next paycheck. Didn't think it would get this much attention/input. I'll be buying one the 320gb Models for 296.00 (well, 300 after the next day shipping). I'll let everyone know my name when I get on it

Make sure and pick up the new Uncharted. Might as well pick up uncharted 2 as well. Have fun!

HKYStormFront 11-05-2011 01:31 PM
