Android Galaxy Nexus + Ice Cream Sandwich

Anyone getting this beast combination? I am for damn sure. Was just announced last night.

You can watch the full introductory video here:
androiddevelopers's Channel - YouTube

Or one of the first promo ads:
Introducing Galaxy Nexus. Simple, beautiful, beyond smart - YouTube

This combo looks amazing.

After reading the comments i guess i am an iYuppie. :p I love how people fight over which is better, and they usually use the same type of behavior to rag on the iphone crowd, as they are ragging on the iPhone crowd for using... Wait, yea, I think that makes sense.:eekdance: I tried an android, didn't like it. Became an Apple fan, have had every iPhone and love my new 4S.

Ice Cream Sandwich...I like that.:bowrofl:

The Dimer 10-19-2011 01:35 PM

I would love to get it, but seeing as I am with Sprint I don't know if I will be able to.

As far as the Apple/Google war. I think most importantly it comes down to which interface you prefer. They both have their pros and cons, and as they continue to copy each other those pros and cons will all start to blur together. Unless of course, one of them sues the other into the ground.

im getting the droid RAZR that will be upgraded to it

i have a bionic now

m4a1mustang 10-19-2011 02:31 PM

Verizon/Tmo/AT&T/Sprint are all getting the Nexus.

And 007MI6, by the sound of it, it's been a very long time since you've touched an Android, but since you already just bought the 4S, there's no point in trying to convince you to switch to the light side. :D

theDreamer 10-20-2011 09:44 AM

Was waiting on this phone, but honestly some of the leaked specs were so much better.
The RAZR and this phone are basically the same, RAZR is thinner and currently lacks ICS (update is early 2012), and neither specs are pushing the limits in my opinion.

It was going to be either this phone or an iPhone 4S, I will be going 4S for the next year. Android OS has improved a lot lately but not enough.

b1adesofcha0s 10-20-2011 09:48 AM

I'll be getting this or whichever Android phone is best in March when I can upgrade my phone.

:D Yes, it has been awhile. I've always been perfectly happy with my iPhones though, it's ATT that pi**es me off, but I can't be without data and voice at the same time.:nutswinger: I have the iPhone, iPad, iMac trio going, and I like they way that they all sync and flow. Android makes a nice phone, it's just not for me.

m4a1mustang 10-20-2011 09:53 AM

All I know is I need to upgrade soon. My Droid 2 is junk.

b1adesofcha0s 10-20-2011 09:59 AM

I have a Droid Incredible, which is still running good right now. Recently rooted it and flashed some copy of Android 2.3, which is nice but still has some bugs. My sister just upgraded from an original Droid to the Droid 3 like 1-2 months ago.

Synack 10-20-2011 10:07 AM

Running on a Droid Charge with a custom Gingerbread 2.3.

@b1adesofcha0s - You might as well wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Nexus definitely won't be the best specced by then.

m4a1mustang 10-20-2011 10:09 AM

My GF has the Droid 3. I was going to get it but I think I'm over the whole needing a keyboard thing and am just gonna go full touch screen.

ClemsonWill 10-20-2011 10:10 AM

I will also be getting either the nexus or razr. I can't wait to see them in person.

b1adesofcha0s 10-20-2011 10:10 AM

Yeah I don't like the full keyboard phones, just adds unnecessary bulkiness to the phone and the touchscreen keyboard works perfectly fine.

I think that's what I'll probably do. I bought an HTC EVO 4G out of contract when I shattered my old Palm Pre. I'm sitting on an upgrade right now and while the Nexus would definitely be an upgrade from the EVO, the specs don't really blow me away. The Galaxy S3 looks like it's going to be a beast and I would hate to use my upgrade on the Nexus and then be pissed when the Galaxy S3 comes out.

Hopefully I'll be able to resist the urge for new technology and keep the EVO until next year. It's practically brand new.

The only thing about all Nexus devices is that they are ALL naturally faster than comparably specced phones. This is because Nexus phones have the stock Android UI with absolutely no wireless carrier extra software garbage. Also they don't have any brand specific UI's like Samsung has Touchwiz, Moto has Motoblur, HTC has Sense, etc etc. All of those things make a high specced phone run slower. Which is why you always see a Nexus phone benchmark so much higher. AND Nexus phones will always be the first to be updated! That's why I absolutely cannot resist it.

b1adesofcha0s 10-20-2011 10:37 AM

When is the Galaxy S3 supposed to be released? I'm not making any decisions till it's close to upgrading time and I know what's available then and what else is soon to come.

The Dimer 10-20-2011 10:54 AM

I'm not sure when you upgrade becomes available, but I don't think Samsung has officially announced when the Galaxy S3 is going to be released. That being said, everything I read about it says it's expected in the first half of next year.

b1adesofcha0s 10-20-2011 10:56 AM

My upgrade is available in March, but I'm willing to wait a few months if something much better is coming out within a few months of then.

Do you think the Galaxy S3 will have Touchwiz on it? I guess I didn't realize not having it third party UIs was a Nexus thing. When I saw the Galaxy Nexus on the press release I was hoping Google was finally getting away from this open source crap that lets everyone put their useless software on all the phones.

Nope, they still will let carriers and manu's put their garbage on there, but never with a Nexus phone. The Galaxy S3 will definitely have Touchwiz, but were on Touchwiz4 right now and I really like it, TW5 should be even better. TW just keeps getting more and more refined and elegant. But the Nexus will not have anything but the original stock unmodified fast as hell version of Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course I'll be going in myself and changing some of the icons.

The Galaxy S3 will likely be released April-June 2012 to the whole world minus the US. Thats what they did this year. If you want a SGS3 then you'll likely have to buy a British or Australian or Canadian version at full price if you want it before August. If all of the US carriers are smart, they will get the SGS3 out as fast as possible next year because we absolutely hate waiting for a phone that's been out for months.

It's the nickname for the next version of Android OS. They're all given food related nicknames.

To be more specific they are all given Dessert related names.

Donut > Eclair > Froyo > Gingerbread > Ice Cream Sandwich > "Jelly Bean"

Just got my Galaxy Nexus today. I'm loving it! My Droid 2 was such a piece of crap. I am glad I put up with it for a few months so I could upgrade to this.

Lol why?

theDreamer 12-22-2011 10:11 PM

Nexus phone is 100% Google so no need to root it honestly.
Though are you on Verizon? You are missing one feature, though the hardware is still included, Google Wallet. Give it a search, you can enable it without rooting the phone but you may not need it.
