Go see star trek

what an absolutely amazing movie. special effects were on a whole new level and most importantly the story was good and really helped pass the torch. fans of the series will be impressed by how accurately the mannerisms of the original characters are portayed especially carl urban he is pitch perfect as Dr McCoy. also its very accessible for new comers and restarts the franchise in a very smart way

so yeah extremely well made the first 10 mins is one of the best opening sequences ive seen in theaters.

going to be hard to out do this movie. alot of good summer movies yet to come but i dont see them having the impact and feel of this one

i give it 5 out of 5

frost 05-07-2009 09:23 PM

Nice to hear. Been waiting patiently.

travisjb 05-07-2009 09:43 PM

my wife went to the premier and met a bunch of them... she spent a lot of time talking to "hurley" of "lost"... apparently all of jj abrams people were there from his tv shows... i haven't seen it yet, but look forward to it

eXo5 05-07-2009 09:45 PM

just tell me they didnt do anything utterly retarded like putting a pink alien in the movie that talks like a stoned jamacan and name it jarjar.

if I had to put up with that I would want to rule the galactic empire as well.

lets see
a green girl kirk gets busy with a little dude that looks like an ewok with no hair and one or 2 random aliens....

MC 05-07-2009 09:57 PM

but just the presentation was amazing! the way the ships went into and came out of warp the lens flares on the camera and how being out in space is depicted was very cool .

i could nitpick here and there but all i know is the war between star trek and star wars is over. this movie made the new star wars look like more piss than they already are.

i went in a little suspicious of the casting although quinto looked exactly like spock.. but they all were great chris pine does his own thing as kirk but there are a few direct nods there to shattner. even chekov and scotty were good...

the story doesnt reinvent the wheel as far as star trek goes. the villian and his motives are a sort of seen it before story arch but.... the way it involves spock makes sense and helps bring continuity from the old timeline to this new altered one.. so the sequel should take more leaps story wise. i would like to see JJ abrams take on the Borg maybe

xDIEGOx 05-07-2009 10:38 PM

I've never been a fan of Star Trek, but I'm definitely watching this movie. I've heard nothing but rave reviews.

MC 05-07-2009 10:41 PM

im more of a next generation guy. picard FTW but yeah its good if youve never heard of star trek

travisjb 05-07-2009 11:03 PM

ever notice how all of jj abrams stuff has time travel involved ? lost, alias, felecity, heroes, fringe, and now star trek... not sure if he's involved with heroes, but all the others

MC 05-08-2009 01:04 AM

oh did i mention tyler perry is in it.. random

molamann 05-08-2009 06:29 AM

Never actually sat down and watched an episode of Star Trek in my life but definitely looking forward to seeing it this weekend. I guess in a way this movie will be more special to me since I'm not familiar with the plotline at all.

SoCal 370Z 05-08-2009 01:05 PM

If you actually were around to watch the original series they did a brilliant job of tying the current into the past. A real homage to Gene Roddenberry and well worth seeing as my wife and I did last night! The theater was packed late last night with a lively crowd of all ages. My wife sat next to a young man whose every other word while watching in awe was f@#k. Gotta love it!

sylenze 05-08-2009 01:44 PM

i second this... and i did not even want to watch the movie... i was just trying to get away from the smoke in santa barbara... but am very happy i decided to watch this...

tvfreakazoid 05-09-2009 02:59 AM

star trek

So, has anyone seen the movie? What did you guys think of it?
I thought it was really good. I saw it thursday night and i'm probably going to see it saturday but in the Imax theater.

hazzazi 05-09-2009 03:15 AM

it was intresting, this was my first Star Trek movie i've watched, and it was really good.

>135I 05-09-2009 03:10 PM

I am glad you guys are giving it good reviews, I wasn't sure how well this was going to turn out. From what you guys are saying, I can't want to go see it.

dad 05-09-2009 03:15 PM

Does Capt.Kirk, or Spock, nail the black chick?

I did about a hundred times last night (in my mind, anyway). Same for the green girl.

GaryTheSnail 05-09-2009 05:01 PM

Have tickets reserved tonight at the Ritz. Can't wait!!!! Good night to take out the car too, temp tonight is gonna be around 65, can't ask for anything more.

Endgame 05-09-2009 08:44 PM

GO SEE IT! The movie is SICK!

I LOVED the way they quickly and effectively explain why the details of this new Trek differs from the 'storyline' of the old Treks.

Bravo, well done; I will be a fan for another 'set' of years!!! Here's to a sequel!!!!

travisjb 05-09-2009 09:52 PM

Agree, really nice job tying both 'realities' together in a way that let's them credibly revisit the whole shooting match... I'd like to see this one continue as a JJ Abrams TV Series... he was born for this!

theDreamer 05-10-2009 09:24 AM

Saw it last night, excellent. I have never been a Star Trek fan but the movie is very enjoyable.

TacoZ 05-10-2009 01:11 PM

Exceeded my expectations. Very nice way to reboot the franchise much like the way Batman Begins did for the batman franchise.

I have had so many people tell me to go see this movie, and I read threads like this but for the life of me I just can't get interested enough to go see it. I've never seen a star trek movie or tv show, and I hated the new star wars movies. I do like the old ones, Star Wars and Empire, but thats about it. oh well, I guess I will wait for the DVD and give it a try. I will probably say you guys were right when I see it but I just remember how many people loved star wars phantom menace at first and then I saw it and it stunk.

redcoupe1 05-12-2009 04:31 PM

I too was a fan of the older star wars movies...couldn't get into the "menace" 3. The Star Trek movie is great!

Diversion 05-12-2009 05:20 PM

Saw it last night, amazing movie! Was very impressive and better than I expected! And i'm *NOT* a Star Trek fan.. so maybe that's why I liked it.. Maybe die-hard Trek fans hated it, I dunno.

ssqpolo 05-12-2009 05:43 PM

never saw the previous ones, well maybe one. but, I loved it. even the gf liked it despite calling me a nerd (jealous). lol. but its cool. makes me wanna start watching the older ones

tvfreakazoid 05-13-2009 02:46 PM

Trust me go see. I know a few people that aren't fans of the Star trek but after watching it they said they loved the movie.

Musashi 05-13-2009 02:53 PM

I saw it at the Imax, was really good and I'm not a trekky.

sylenze 05-13-2009 03:31 PM

i think the fact there isnt a negative comment in this thread shows how this is a good movie...considering that people are extremely sensitive in forums...

or maybe there isnt a star treck fan in this forum at all...

tvfreakazoid 05-15-2009 02:31 AM

I've seen it twice already. But the Imax experience wasn't all that great. The actions scenes were just to blurry.

You sure you weren't at a LIEMAX theater?

IMAX or LIEMAX? - Google Maps
