Either I met the nicest Z loving cop on Earth or I'm just that slick :-)

On the way home from running some errands all day long, I got pulled over by an officer on an empty freeway not too far from my house. I pulled over once I spotted the officer, stopped the engine and put the keys on top of the roof and waited for officer to catch up ... valuable time to think fast :p.

Officer# So do you know why I stopped you?
birdman with the dumbest French accident# Let me guess officer, my dumb a$$ was speeding right?
Officer# Yes you were, any reason why?
birdman# Well, I was trying to run away from hurricane Irene and grab some provisions.
Officer looking amuzed# Well you know it won't get here till tomorrow and that you are way too early ... Wait here!

Final tally, repair order for front tint, get front plate installed ... saving close to 1k worth of fines. This had to be without any doubt the nicest officer I've dealt with, ever. Do you care sharing any instance when you somehow got away from an imminent ticket/fine and pulled it off? Please fine gents & ladies, do so with respect of law and enforcement

Bird you know only I can get away with going 120 without traction control and not get caught. HOW dare you try!!! LOLZ

birdmanx1 08-26-2011 11:28 PM

I was very lucky Will, any other officer in that position would have slapped those fines without any pause but this one didn't. I guess now is that time to see the eye doc for the need for tint :p.

Matt, I tried to follow in your squid marks, see where that got me. Hey dude, riding shotgun when you bring your Altima back down in MD. I will need you for the extra speakers ;)

when i was heading to east texas to visit my relatives last month, i was speeding down the highway of course. i come over a rise and next thing you know, my radar detector goes crazy! i of course hit the brakes and tried to figure out where he was (i was going 85 in a 65 i think, they have weird speed limits there). well, after i got down to normal speed i saw him on the left side of the road (state trooper), so i stayed my butt in the right lane.
but then he pulled onto the road, got into the right lane, and folled me for a quarter mile....he turned on his lights!

i pulled over on the right side of the road (which i immediately realized was the bad side to pull over on) and the officer slowly walked around the passenger side of my car, pausing to touch my blacked out taillights and my roof spoiler (my previous car). so i, of course, was thinking "this dude is gonna think im some ricer kid and hes gonna give me a ticket for everything he can find!" he walks to the passenger door, and asks me "sir, please step out of the vehicle and follow my to my car." ...my heart was friggin racing. and my girlfriend...she was even more scared than me lol.

so i walk over to his car, and he says "please get in the vehicle" . o.0' "ok officer," i managed to squeak out. I get in, leaving the door open (i guess i thought about running lol not an intelligent idea). He says "please close the door." so i do it. he turns on his car, searches in the computer for my info (at this point id given him my drivers license and insurance). all of a sudden, he asks me "so what brings you all the way out her from plano?" (i was about two hundred miles from where i live). so i tell him how im out there to see my grandma for her birthday ( the truth btw she turned 77) and he starts talking to me about the area she lived in, then we start talking about the drive up, and then we move on to my car, and then i looked up and so his camera feed in the headling and i was like "thats so cool. ive never been in a cop car before so i didnt know thats how it looked." it made him laugh so he showed me how he could switch to a camera that was apparently right in front of my face the whole time that showed an interior view of the cop car. we talk for a few more minutes and he finally tells me the reason he pulled me over: no front plate. He gave me a warning, told me a shorter route to get where i was going, and told me to drive safe. all in all we hung out in his vehicle for like 15 minutes! and when i got back to my car, my girlfriend was freaking out cause she thought i was about to be arrested lol.

but she realized that shed be cool with that, and sais "i would have gotten to drive your car though!" ....hell no :)

Red__Zed 08-27-2011 08:39 AM

Not at all surprising sir.

I bet he didn't ticket you because he was worried your car would eat him.

You are pretty slick

Damn you definitely lucked out Bert. Glad you didn't show any signs of having some of that oil money otherwise he might have tried to get himself some of that :p.

Glad to hear you just got away with minor fines. You actually going to get rid of the tint or just pay the fines?

Hehe, I'm sure the joke helped a lot :bowrofl:

I got clocked at 130mph(in my 350Z) late one night on the 15 when I used to live in Vegas. I was also a little buzzed. Anyway I saw a car on the side of the freeway waaay ahead of me with its lights on. So I dropped down to 70 mph way before I got up to it, just in case it was a cop - and it was. My heart dropped to my stomach as soon as I could clearly see it was a patrol car. Seconds later, his lights flash, and he was on my ***. I kid you not, I have never prayed to God like I did that night. I was drunk going 130 mph, I knew I was going to jail and getting slapped with a DUI, life was over. To make a long story short it went down like this...

(Me sitting in the car desperately praying to God if he got me out of this one, I would never speed again)
Cop: Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: About 70 mph.
Cop: No, way back there.
Me: (I knew I was busted so I said) Over 100 mph officer.
Cop: I clocked you at 130mph
Me: Really? you can clock me way back there?
Cop: Yep. How fast have you taken this thing?
Me: (That caught me off guard, so I was confused, but I didn't want to incriminate myself anymore)Umm...officer I know I'm in trouble and I don't want to get myself in anymore trouble.
Cop: No, seriously how fast? you won't get in trouble.
Me: (I was even more confused now so I just told him) I've taken it up to 150.
Cop: Wow, that's fast. Where do you live?
Me: Next exit.
Cop: OK, I'm going to give you the max speeding ticket without paying additional fines (I think that's 10mph over the limit) and go straight home.

I swear when that cop walked away I heard the Hallelujah song playing! And I stuck that ticket on the back of my door so I would see it everyday I walk out.

vividracing 08-29-2011 01:37 PM

I unknowingly led a Highway Patrol officer on a high speed chase for 10 miles. The report straight up says that the only reason he ever caught me was because I slowed down to 75 when I finally came to a point where I wasn't the only car around. It says something along the lines of "Maintaining speeds of over 140 MPH, I was not able to close the gap between myself and the suspect". Once I got to a point where I was coming up to traffic, I slowed down.

He finally caught up to me, and hit the lights. He asked me to get out of the car, and I thought I was going to jail for sure... He asks if I've ever been pulled over, and I told him yes. I had 1 criminal speeding ticket (20 MPH over). I rarely drove this car, so I didn't have my proof of insurance with me, and the registration was expired by like 4 days. He runs my ID, and gives me a reckless driving ticket. He said that he could have done either a criminal speeding or reckless driving, but going back in front of a judge for the same exact thing looks pretty bad, so he gave me the reckless driving. No tickets for the insurance or registration. He technically should have taken me to jail, but he didn't. I haven't had a ticket in 5ish years.

Oh, and it was a Civic. :stirthepot:

Great stories Elmz & Vivid. I lucked out with the timing of Irene :icon17: I hate that feeling when you realize that things can get really ugly and that everything depends on that officer right in front of you staring with the mustache, 80s glasses and huge hat. I'm sure they must get a kick out of watching people sweat.

Oh I'm sure they do. I've sense grown up and don't drive like an idiot anymore, so I won't be in that situation again. Even when I used to drive fast on the street, I always made sure there wasn't anyone else around.

Dallaz 08-31-2011 09:31 PM

Dang you guys all got lucky, I however was less fortunate. I got pulled over in the fast lane going with the speed of traffic (which was apperently like 78mph) in a 65. He was just chillin on the shoulder and i didnt even see him until it was too late. He pointed at me and then got in his car..... Oh S**t! so any ways I pull off the crowded highway and come to a stop. He walks up and says "license and registration (or proof of insurance, whatever)"... No please in there, and then goes back to his car. After probably 20 minutes no joke he walks back up and says "I'm officer ______ from ______ county, sign here the instructions are on the back"; and then walks to his car. WHAT!!!!! Here I am not even knowing what he pulled me over for and he doesn't tell me anything but "the instructions are on the back" So anyways he ended up giving me the ticket for 13 over. And apparently the max limit before higher fines is 15mph over. Meanwhile you guys are doin 100+ and getting away with it lol. Please teach me!

Dallaz 08-31-2011 09:37 PM

^^ this was in my 3KGT. 100 Somethin bucks and defensive driving class later and all is back to normal. It took months before it was dealt with because this was out of my county and I had to deal with all of it by mail.

D*mn dude, sorry to hear about your mishap - the cop had to have a bad day, it's funny that he pointed at you before getting in the car. Don't worry, before most of us learned how to work our way out of tickets, we had a rough patch learning. What I've found out from most of my warnings is that you should always be polite, if you are playing music, turn that sh&t down, stop the car, put the keys on top of the car, be comfortable, if you have some to hide, your body language will reveal it, let the officer know that you are going to reach for your wallet, you don't want to get shot :p, if you were speeding no need going around it admit it and having a natural sense of humor helps. I've heard of one guy who told the cop that he only stopped because he didn't want to risk the officer's life - the cop was floored (the guy in question was doing over 140mph and got a warning)

nmjaxx9 09-02-2011 03:46 PM

I actually got pulled over the day after I got my Z ( a lil too trigger happy with the foot as it was a new toy) and the cop pulled me over on a two lane road, He asked for my license and registration and just as he did a honda prelude went jetting by at like wat seemed like over 60 (speed limit is 35 on that road) so he told me "wait here till i get backk, ill be right back", and ran back to his cruiser and sped off towards the prelude. I simply just waited for like 5 min and he didnt return so I just slowly merged into traffic and bounced.

bigaudiofanat 09-02-2011 03:59 PM

My story is getting pulled over for being clocked at 116 in my old civic. The officer asked where in the world was I going at that speed. I was all leaned up and had my resume in my passenger seat. Truthfully told him I was heading to a job interview and was running late. Gave me the ticket and said see you in court.
