5.8 earthquake in Virginia

Checking in to see if everyone living in the area is ok. I'm in New York and our building was shaking.

More news to come...

HKYStormFront 08-23-2011 01:10 PM

didn't feel it here at the warehouse (there's always a slight rumble throughout the place due to the equipment moving and what not) but people in my area reported (via facebook) that they felt it. here's a link:

i remember this morning i was watching the news and they said colorado had a earthquake and i thought well maybe i was dreamed it after seeing that story or something.. the local news here is saying it could be felt for 20 secs i felt it more for like 10 max but it was enough to wake me up

not the first time i felt something here in winston... about 5-6 years ago there was a little tremor that hit around here....

Red__Zed 08-23-2011 01:21 PM

Charlottesville apparently missed me.

m4a1mustang 08-23-2011 01:22 PM

So it was not very strong in magnitude but the scope was pretty large.

didymus 08-23-2011 01:23 PM

Felt something here in Boston, was that the same one? Wow

zmyride 08-23-2011 01:23 PM

i didnt know a 5.8 quake was such a big news over there.

Here in California, most people would just sleep through it.

1) Quakes are rare here

2) Though the magnitude was low, the scope was very large

3) We could have a bigger quake if we wanted to, so stfu! :p:icon17:

kenchan 08-23-2011 01:29 PM

5.8 is pretty severe.

Nick911sc 08-23-2011 01:30 PM

I'm not gonna lie I was in the bathroom when it hit. LOL

didymus 08-23-2011 01:30 PM

I'm like 600 miles from the center, wow. Building was swaying a bit

mtaxelson 08-23-2011 01:30 PM

b1adesofcha0s 08-23-2011 01:30 PM

Felt that sh1t here in Baltimore.

RandyD 08-23-2011 01:33 PM

i was in a 5.3 in san diego. that one was much more like a wave - up and down . this one was more like rattling vibration followed by small waves for another minute.

Masa 08-23-2011 01:33 PM

First thing I did after the shaking stopped was to run outside and check on my Z... make sure no bricks fell on it. :rofl2:

b1adesofcha0s 08-23-2011 01:35 PM

I heard it was felt all the way upto Toronto

Cmike2780 08-23-2011 01:39 PM

Doesn't look like it caused too much damage. Also, there was a quake in Colorado earlier. How many more months till 2012?

birdmanx1 08-23-2011 03:28 PM

My office floor was waving in DC and a huge TV came off its brackets. That's when I got the f&$@ out. Be safe leaving DC, it's crazy out here right now.

Watch out for the aftershocks.
