Just finished putting together a cryogenic pump today. Only one of its kind. Initial run-in looks great, so I'm really jazzed. Next week we'll see what it can really do. Imagine a fire hose that sprays liquid oxygen instead of water!

Is it the only one period, or is it a new design?

Oh, there's lots of cryo pumps for rocket engines out there. This one is very unique though. It's a piston pump instead of the usual turbine pump. The new pump gives us multi-million dollar performance for a multi-thousand dollar price tag.

Piston cryo pumps are often used for industrial applications, but those pumps are ultra-heavy and require lots of electrical power to operate.

Anyone got FIFA09 for xbox360? Im on right now :D

I have heard there are small centrifugal cryo pumps, are they not applicable for your application?

CrownR426 01-17-2009 10:35 AM

I need a beer...

frost 01-17-2009 10:42 AM

Not a bad idea. I've often found my schoolwork gets better grades after a little drinking. Must have something to do with the increased creativity.

Not at all, unfortunately. We would happily buy an OTS solution if we knew of one.

Too bad, that would probably be your most economical option.

I read an interesting thread on *another forum* they kept calling shumby the coffee man

Shumby you care to share this story of you, your G37, and coffee?

And yea those cup holders look worthless.

frost 01-17-2009 07:35 PM

*waits for explanation*

How you getting a continuous flow out of a piston pump?

Coffee caused me to crash my 08 G37. Lets just say I was playing around and was down shifting on a dead end road hit the coffee mug onto the floor leaned down to pick it up could not get it. When I looked up I was rally close to the end of the road. (going the speed limit of course :p ) well went to go for the brake hard hit the mug and it lodged itself perfectly under the brake and on the gas. I launched over a jersey barrier at the speed limit ( 180 km/hr :eekdance: ) landed in a farmers field that is 7' below the road. So ya no coffee allowed in the new car.

blue660r01 01-17-2009 10:38 PM

wtf!

shumby 01-17-2009 10:40 PM

that is what I said

blue660r01 01-17-2009 10:44 PM

I woulda been pretty shaken up

shumby 01-17-2009 10:50 PM

I was fine I was super pissed at myself. I drove the car out of the field. Front tie rods were broke rear suspension was hooped. I "drove" it down the road to my friends house.
Tires screeching all the way as the front tires were sideways under the front of the car. Parked the car it would not go into reverse the lights would not turn off and the windows went down and stayed down. Got ti towed the next day. Took 2 weeks for the insurance to say it was written off. They wrote me a check for the full amount I paid for the car. I then ordered the 2009 which was 5K less then I got the 2008 for. So win win. Not telling my wife was a different story. I don't think I will ever hear the end of it.

blue660r01 01-17-2009 11:04 PM

moral of the story....dont drink coffee while driving

Namir 01-17-2009 11:17 PM

Damn! thats a pretty crazy story, I'm glad you ok and that your insurance took care of your car.

I'll be the first to say I won't be experimenting with coffee/drinks while driving my Z!
