better than furries.

Welp....I think I decided on how I'll get Smurf on my bar! Hi-TecDesigns suggested the following:

Lasering the single-color image into the powdercoat would be permanent, and detail would be very high (at least 300dpi, possibly upwards of 600dpi in some cases). Cost would be about the same as a multi-color sticker. Multi-color is still an option here through powdercoating, but the cost for multi-color would be high due to the large number of steps.

lasering? oooh, you better make sure you really want to nickname your Z 'smurf' for the rest of your ownership :D

:bowrofl: Oh it was bad! I tried to explain what I wanted and I could hear the confusion in her voice (or was that her trying to decide if the call was even real!) and once I got into explaining the actual Smurf image....oh.....even I just wanted to get off the phone and apologize to her for calling! :bowrofl:

Good point....ok, here are the 4 options Hi-TechDesign suggested:

1) Powdercoating through a stencil would create the longest lasting mark and allow for multiple colors, though detail would be extremely low and might be costly.

2) Vinyl would have about the same low level of detail but wouldn't last nearly as long (heat may discolor the vinyl and/or make it curl up after a while). Cost would be dirt cheap for a single color, and plenty of component manufacturers use this method as it does seem to work okay for a handful of years.

3) Decals (usually vinyl, as well) can be cast in full-color (at a higher cost), but will have the same issue as in 2) above.

4) Lasering the single-color image into the powdercoat would be permanent, and detail would be very high (at least 300dpi, possibly upwards of 600dpi in some cases). Cost would be about the same as a multi-color sticker. Multi-color is still an option here through powdercoating, but the cost for multi-color would be high due to the large number of steps.
